Trump to sign executive order requiring all babies born alive to get medical care

Trump to sign executive order requiring all babies born alive to get medical care

President Trump announced on Wednesday that he will sign an executive order to ensure that all babies born alive receive medical care, including those that survive abortions or are born prematurely.

In an appeal to religious voters, the president made the disclosure during a pre-recorded virtual address to the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast.
“Today I am announcing that I will be signing the born alive executive order to assure that all precious babies born alive, no matter their circumstances, receive the medical care that they deserve,” the president said. “This is our sacrosanct moral duty.”

The White House did not immediately release a copy of the order, or specify when the president will sign it.

The president also said his administration will boost federal funding for neonatal research....

!?!?! But all babies born alive get medical care . I don’t get this . Then again yes I do. This is like that pointless photo op without being abusive. Brownie points !
This bill protects the babies that survive a failed attempt to kill them while they're still in their mother's womb.

For some reason this is controversial.

It also protects all babies from the likes of Virginia's governor Northrup, who said we can decide after they're born what to do with them.

It has been proposed...and some politicians have supported the idea...that after a delivery, the physician and mother together, or just the mother, can AT THAT POINT IN TIME decide to save him or, instead, set him aside to die.

In addition, there have been reports of some doctors, on the prior advice of the mother that she wants an abortion, to deliver the child rather than use one of the other late-term abortion techniques, and then wait until he dies.

What a state of affairs that our society has come to the point that an executive order not to kill babies is thought necessary by anyone. :sigh:

Actually some do not. Former president Obama had links to a place in Chicago called Mercy Hospital where they had a room, a soiled linen closet, where certain babies were put until they died. It's all documented. Just not quite illegal.

I agree with your statement.

Why did Trump wait so long to do an executive order that he could have done 3 or 4 years ago? I'll bet you would have done it years ago?

His history suggests that he prefers Congress to act and only later issues an Executive Order on some of these matters when it's finally clear that that won't be happening. But I cannot be sure if that is the correct answer to your question.

I guess that's as good of an excuse as any.

Excuse? That IS the history of this president with regard to his executive orders and there's nothing illogical about it. If it's deemed to be a critically important issue, particularly one he promised to address during his campaigning, he will resort to an executive order if Congress doesn't come across after being given some time to do so.

It might have been proposed but currently extra judicial killing of an born infant is murder in all states in the USA. The second point is other than as a BS session, I don’t think they were serious about trying to impose that .

Sometimes doctors know that they won’t be able to save a newborns life . Intervention to prolong life at that point would just cause more suffering

And yet it happens and aside from a rare Kermit Gosnell they can get away with it. More common than strangling or breaking a neck is to neglect the care that most newborns recieve, allowing them to die of exposure in some closet somewhere. A newborn does not deserve that. Even one who survives a botched abortion.
