You don’t have gangs of white Americans in America? Who knew?

You're right. What was I thinking? Let's bring in some gangs of different colors. Variety is needed in the gang population. Gives the cops more people to arrest too.

Let me check the facts here.

Are you saying there are no 'sinkhole' countries in Africa?

Check facts? You?

The question before us (and the WH meeting) is not whether some countries are richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, but "why allow immigration" from places that are worse off. As though the people from such places are worth less than other people, or otherwise undesirable for immigration. Or as mark46 noted in his parallel thread "Trump has never been so clear in his views. He doesn't want immigrants from places like Haiti, El Salvador and Africa."

The outcry is not about 'poop' or demographic differences between countries.

Also you might find it interesting that all 6 American nobel prize winners in 2016 in economics and science were immigrants, and that over 40% of our nobel prize winners since 2000 have been immigrants.

Immigrants Flooding America With Nobel Prizes

Let's think about that before slamming the door in people's faces and behaving in decisively unamerican ways. Let's remember what is written on the statue of liberty:

Half of Trump's uncovered message was how we WANT immigrants, just from more specific ones and not third world ones, so this part of the post is irrelevant to the conversation.

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!""

It doesn't say "just give me your best" or "those from poop nations need not apply", because the original Americans were often rejects and renegades. People under threat of violence for the beliefs, those seeking new prosperity, often from areas that today would have been seen as quite abhorrent.

A bad poem written just over one hundred years ago is reflective of nothing meaningful. Also, your post regarding the poem completely ignores actual American immigration policy, which mostly relied on quotas from Western European nations, and specifically white nations only. For most of American history, however, Western European immigration was the standard and was the only one promoted. The policy was only changed not because earlier leftists wanted a country filled with non-WASPs, but because the public was promised it wouldn't change the demographic makeup of the country.

Most of American history didn't have immigration quotas.

Most of American history didn't have immigration quotas.

For most of our history, we needed people to
fill the empty areas between the coasts.

News: We have plenty now. We can afford to
only let in those who will improve the nation,
not cost us money to imprison them or feed
them on government handouts.

I'll ignore the snark you started that reply with for now.

So, what do such countries have to offer besides
illiterate, uneducated and non-English speaking
people who will likely need government assistance
to live? Not to mention the diseases that many
citizens of those countries bring in with them.
Which do you want brought into our schools and
our communities?

Last I checked, those people wishing to become US citizens must be able to read, write, and speak English and must pass a medical exam.

As has been pointed out several times now, those immigrants which you and Trump seek to denigrate are better educated than the average American...!

Why would those specific immigrants want to come here? People immigrate here for a better life, and those specific immigrants already have a good deal where they currently are.

America is still mostly empty. we rank near the bottom in population density.

Sinkhole would be an understatement. Doubt Trump said what they are saying but, if he did -- he was pretty close to the mark.

That doesn't stop them from coming on visas
and just staying here. And how many 'visitors'
like that are never screened until an epidemic
happens?

Then how do we keep bringing in the others? Because
of the lottery immigration, which doesn't look at their
education, just their country of origin.

And we live better than most of them.
Who wants to live in a country with no
room and no privacy? This is why people
are going crazy these days.

There is no clear and consistent metric of what
constitutes art, but most of us know it when we
see it.

How can you, when you have no consistent metric?

Produce one, then you may have a point worth responding to.
