And what percentage was pranking students? All of them?

Luckily, all of them were false. But the protocol in place just reminds students of horrific past realities and possible future tragedies. There is no need for a bomb threat protocol if there was no concern that one could one day be real.

Well, nobody wants to be the person who blew off an actual threat. On the other hand, you have a better chance of winning the powerball jackpot than be bombed at school. It's not something you should worry about any more than a fire drill (that is, have a reasonable lockdown/evacuation plan in place and then call the first responders if the event pans out). If you really want to keep students safe effectively overall, reinstate driver education.

I agree. And for a change of topic - What do you think about the bullying epidemic in our public schools? This is what I'm more worried about than bombs.

I think it's bad and also a more realistic worry. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be anything new. There always seems to be a group of kids willing to pick on kids who are "different." On the other hand, it can be difficult to distinguish bullying from something a little more 2-sided. I've been more or less pleased by the middle school response--the security guy seems tough but fair and unlikely to fall for crap, and analyzes the situation so everyone can take responsibility to see what they did wrong . Every kid who has hit my kid has been punished, but my kid also has had to learn the hard way that if you provoke someone to anger, the fault is not 100% theirs for the situation.

It doesn't.

I feel that Scripture strongly suggests otherwise - that the parents (and other family members) be primarily the ones responsible for their own children's nurturing, disciplining, instructing, and spiritual training.

In fact, spiritual training should be more important than academic training. This, of course, doesn't mean academic training should be lessened - it just means that academic lessons should be taught through a biblical-worldview instead of a secular one.

Traditionally, children have been primarily educated and socialized by their families and select family friends. It's worked fine for thousands of years. Instead of being put in age-segregated classrooms for the majority of the day, they learned to communicate with adults and children of all ages.
Amen!!!!
