Or: science presupposes a metaphysics if it cliams truth about existence. Metaphysics is not scientific. Metaphysics is akin to faith, because it is not scientific. Therefore, the foundations of science are akin to religion. Give me an inch, and science is a religion. If you don't you don't love your neighbour. So the alternative to "science is a religion" is satanic.

Personally, I find science to be true so far as it provides us with useful results. In other words, through science we have been able to create machines that allows us to fly or talk to people across the globe instantly. Whether jet engines work with the universe "as it really is" or not or whether we're brains in a vat is irrelevant. To the best of my knowledge, experience, and what I can detect, science simply works.

Then, for the sake of argument: If Science is a religion, then we would need a word for this purely logical method of learning about the universe. What should it be?

I think that the view about science being a religion is because creationists assume they don't follow the above method. Since religion is a set of unchangeable doctrines and they assume that science treats evolution the same way then therefore science must also be a religion.

Kinda strange that someone with religious beliefs would attack science with the word "religion" as though that meant it wasn't a very strong view.
