I don’t know if it mentioned books per se’ or just faux leather in general.I don’t think it’s a good idea to use oil on a book.
Good question, I'm guessing 12 or 14 years old? Faux covers do very in quality the Thompson Chain is from Kirkbride and worn out but not flaking. How old is it?
Mine is from Crossway but the box says that it‘s guaranteed to last a lifetime. If there are any manufacturing defects during regular use they’d replace it for free. Guess I’d better find my receipt, just in case. I do know that faux leather needs to stay out of direct sunlight.Good question, I'm guessing 12 or 14 years old? They will wear out in time. i think that’s normal.Good question, I'm guessing 12 or 14 years old? Faux covers do very in quality the Thompson Chain is from Kirkbride and worn out but not flaking.
My new one isn’t red letter. I’ll miss that, but maybe not bc my other ESV I use every day (but isn’t a Study Bible) is a red letter.I bought the new one primarily for study but still plan to read the other one, too. This is my daily Bible, I also have it in NKJV.
I like that. What is a chain reference Bible? Does it include study notes at the bottom of the page? This is my daily Bible, I also have it in NKJV.
My former LCC Pastor gave me this one when he got his leather bound version. I use it regularly. Also interested. I did get an ESV Catholic Edition with all the books but it has a paucity of notes. So not a Study Bible. Apparently the ESV owners did not license a Catholic Study Bible made of the ESV translation even though the Augustine Institute that printed mine wanted to do it.
That's the one! Not much of a study Bible, but I'm liking it. It's at my left elbow right now.My former LCC Pastor gave me this one when he got his leather bound version. I use it regularly. View attachment 339514
I do see all of the Bible as Gods Word but I do like to see Jesus’ words stand out.For study I begin with a plain reference Bible without red letters and move toward commentaries after reading and thinking about the passage for a while. Red letters elevate specific passages above others when we should see all of the Bible as God's word.
The chain references direct you to other biblical passages in the Bible so you can track down all of the passages dealing with a subject.
Example, passages on spiritual deadness may include: Genesis 2:16-17; Psalm 51:5; Psalm 58:3; John 3:5-7; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3; Colossians 2:13.
I do see all of the Bible as Gods Word but I do like to see Jesus’ words stand out.
That’s interesting. I never thought of it that way.

The Problem with Red Letter Bibles - Gentleman Theologian
All God’s Words are Important If you are a Bible reader, chances are at some point in your life, you’ve owned a red letter Bible. A red letter Bible is one where the words of Christ are in red font, to highlight their importance. I was reminded of this by an NPR story about a new edition of the...gentlemantheologian.com

Not sure about faux leather. Now I'm curious. Is yours faux leather too? I googled how to keep faux leather from flaking and one suggestion was to use a little oil on it. Google it yourself before taking my advice. I don’t have a clue how to oil up a faux leather book without getting the pages oily.
If the pages are in good shape and not browned, and if the pages are bundled into a sewn structure you can have the bible rebound in hardcover. I've seen it done many times. You could have it redone in hardboard or leather. Expensive, but durable, and you get to keep your notes and use the book for years to come.My Thompson Chain faux leather.
