Farmers Insurance is leaving Florida in latest blow to homeowners

Farmers Insurance is leaving Florida in latest blow to homeowners
Just to point out some key details.

The company said in a statement that its decision to get out of Florida was a business decision necessary to manage its risk exposure in the hurricane-prone state.

Financial risk is rising faster than the rate that Florida allows insurers to raise their rates. Likewise in California with respect to wildfires rather than hurricanes. Extreme weather events such as hurricanes and heat/drought-produced wildfires are becoming more common due to climate change. If risks weren't rising, you can bet that insurers would be rushing to make 'easy money' insuring a static situation.

“Over the past 18 months in Florida, 15 home insurers have placed moratoriums on writing new business, four carriers have announced plans to voluntarily withdraw from the market and seven companies have been declared insolvent,” Mark Friedlander, a spokesperson for Insurance Information Institute, told CNN. “Currently, there are 18 Florida residential insurers on the state regulator’s watch list due to concerns over their financial health.”

Abstract

There is a consensus among scientists that climate change is an existing, growing, and human-made threat to our planet. The topic is a divisive issue worldwide, including among people of faith. Little research has focused on the relationship between (non)religious belief and climate change. Hence, in Studies 1 and 2, the authors explore the impact of religious/non-religious orientations: intrinsic (religion as an end in itself), extrinsic (religion as a means to an end), quest (a journey toward religious understanding), and non-religious orientation (i.e., atheistic) on consumer attitudes toward the environment, focusing on recycling advertisements with (non)religious cues. Further, in Study 3, we examine the underlying causal mechanism of environmental identity and the moderating effect of political views on consumers’ lack of belief in climate change. The results show that religious people are less committed to the environment and climate change and that atheism positively affects recycling and climate change identity. The findings offer practical implications in that advertising campaigns need to be endorsed by religious leaders and channeled within the confines of the religious institutions they represent.

Do you think there is a next world?
I agnostic of an afterlife.
Are you concerned…?
Nor really. Paul believed in Sola Scriptura for salvation while Jesus preached both faith and works are necessary. Even Christians have problems agreeing what is necessary for salvation.

The Return of Cassandra: singing no harmonious tune; for it tells of no good

1689200888901.png

And now, no more shall my prophecy peer forth from behind a veil
like a new-wedded bride
But it will rush upon me clear as a fresh wind
blowing against the sun's uprising so as to dash against its rays,
like a wave, a woe far mightier than mine.
No more by riddles will I instruct you.
And bear me witness, as, running close behind,
I scent the track of crimes done long ago.
For from this roof never departs a choir chanting in unison,
but singing no harmonious tune;
for it tells of no good.

Do you think there is a next world?
We live in "this" world at the moment.

Other than the most basic awareness, I sometimes feel that the reality of this world that we live is all but abandoned in favor for some unknown next world.
Are you concerned…?
With the fallout from the Earth changes, much of which is human caused, I'm very concerned for my grandchildren's future.

Concern for the next world… puts this world in perspective
Yes, and we should do a better job of caring for it then. It is a gift, a good and precious gift from God.

Oceans are changing color, likely due to climate change, researchers find

Around 56% of the world's oceans have changed color, with the blue waters becoming greener over time, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Tropical ocean water near the equator has been especially impacted. Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and National Oceanography Center in the U.K. found that the change is likely driven by climate change.

Greener water is largely driven by the presence of phytoplankton.

Farmers Insurance is leaving Florida in latest blow to homeowners

Ron DeSantis says insurers will return to Florida after hurricane season

“I think what’s going to happen is because we did those reforms, it now is more economical for companies to come in. I think they’re going to wait through this hurricane season and then I think they’re going to be willing to deploy more capital to Florida,” DeSantis said Wednesday during an appearance on the Howie Carr Show.

[Is he aware there is a hurricane season every year?]

“So, knock on wood, we won’t have a big storm this summer. ...” DeSantis added.

[Great planning!]
