Thank you! That list was very interesting. My family names weren't on it and it really surprised me. I wonder if Joseph Belknap shares my DNA. I had Belknaps in N. E. USA. I do have Smiths in Texas; who doesn't? But they are impossible to trace. And the census taker must have been lazy. He only used initials instead of their given names.

You're welcome. ;)

There's a Thomas H. Mays on the list. I assume he's the same as on the plaque? I've been through Bastrop County many times, but not recently. It's quite a ways from us.

Here's an online library site where you can look up biographies of many who participated in the battle.

Herzstein Library

There are remains of Fort Belknap near us. It was named for William G. Belknap, who was originally from NY.

Thank you so much!

I'm sure that's my Thomas Mays. William Belknap surely shared my DNA. Amazing! My dad died in Florida and was no longer a Texan. He had an unhappy childhood. He took us to Lovelady, Texas, when I was 7. Then it wasn't until the early 1970s that I told my husband I wanted to meet my relatives in Texas. We went back again in the early 80s. Besides visiting Bastrop and Bexar Counties and we went to Coleman County. I didn't know about Thomas Mays back then.

I ran out of Prevagen, but guzzled enough tea to think clearly. I made lists that will help me to take my meds on time. I have the timer set for my dryer. I made a list of important phone numbers to put in my new address book when it gets here. I called the doctor to get an Rx for the pills I accidentally spilled.

I can't find the funny card I bought for my friend! It has the year 2023 printed on it so I can't send it next year. :(

Two bags of soil were delivered for my flower pots. But the air quality was poor so I stayed indoors. I'll go get my mail after dark.

What have you'ns been up to?

I've spent the last two afternoons going through files and shredding. Got rid of a load of years-old insurance papers and EOBs that tend to accumulate. Need to toss bunches of instruction booklets, etc. for appliances we haven't had in years! It's amazing what we can amass!

I could use some potting soil. But the weather is supposed to heat up over the next week, so I probably won't be outside to do any potting. I cleared a space out back and planted a few pinto beans. Might be too late though.

I need to get a haircut but can't seem to force myself. ;) Hopefully next week.

Had a nice morning today. It was cloudy and we had a steady light rain. The sun came up and looked beautiful, but the rain continued to fall on us. Sun and rain!

Was 89 today. The weather guys keep predicting 100s toward the end of next week. One seemed really happy when he forecasted 105. But they keep pushing it back, and lowering the highs. I think they get carried away with themselves. It was nice when we were told what the weather would be for the next two days, not two weeks.

One of my brothers lived in Canada for a while and hated it. He loves hot weather. A lot of people who can afford it go south for the winter and come back for the summers. Our neighbor who has since passed away hated cold weather (fought in the Korean War) and bought a house without central air. Shortly after he passed away, his Hispanic widow got central air. Well, I like cold weather with a warm house in winter. The home my husband grew up in had a very cold upstairs in winter. They had lots of blankets. I wasn't too excited about getting out of bed in the morning, but we always went down to the warm kitchen for our coffee. We never visited for more that a week because he had to get back to work. Different strokes for different folks.

Canadian wildfires aren't helping some of our states.

One of my husband's uncles and his wife live in Canada, have for many years, so apparently they like it. They must be getting up in years now, as my husband is 70. My in-laws in NY didn't have A/C but it was always nice there when we visited, didn't miss the cooling. The mornings were always nice and cool.

About a week and a half ago we finally began turning our A/C on after lunch. There've been years we've had it on all day as early as the first of May. Guess it'll be on early from now till fall. It's already 90 outside. We normally turn it off or set it at 79 at night. With a ceiling fan going at night it stays quite comfortable. At least for us... I once worked with a fellow who came in one morning and asked several of us what our electric bill was for that month. He wondered how his could be $400 when ours were all very low. Turns out he and his wife set their A/C at 66!

I'd rather have hot weather than cold and snow. We've had a couple of very cold spells the last two Februarys, and we get a small amount of snow most winters. That's enough for me! By the end of December I'm looking for spring.

A/C at 66! *faint* Yikes! A friend of mine keeps her heat at 60 something to save money. I keep mine about 75. I need to order some new weather stripping for the front door.

We set the heat at 72.

My spaghetti squash has taken over a corner of the yard. If I'd known it was a runner I'd have gotten some other type! It's making squash, but I have no idea what to do with spaghetti squash. :(

I've never cooked spaghetti squash. Are you saying you don't know how to serve it?

My dear daughter picked up my recycling after her guitar lesson yesterday and moved a gigantic flower pot nearer to the porch for me so I can plant one of the lemon grass plants in it. The other lemon grass looks half to 3/4 dead. Daughter is an optimist; she thinks I can nurse it back. I doubt it. I'm smarter than people give me credit for (I have lots of experience).

I've found recipes for spaghetti squash. Supposedly when it's cooked it forms pasta-like strips inside and can be used as a substitute for spaghetti, hence its name. Or this recipe for stuffing it...

Stuffed Southwestern Spaghetti Squash

Hopefully bugs, birds, squirrels and heat won't get to it before me.

I don't think lemon grass grows too well here. I have basil, dill and oregano growing well.

Got a nice picture of a yellow swallowtail butterfly, need to find out exactly what kind, and just saw a dragonfly outside the window.

I only use the lemon grass to keep the mosquitos away from my porch bench. This year my daughter gave it to me for Mother's Day. She goes to another town to buy it each year and has pots of it on her deck.

I haven't see any butterflies yet, but daughter saw a dragonfly in my yard yesterday.

It's raining lightly outside. I'm glad. It was hot yesterday.

I wonder how Unqualified is doing. He's probably at evening church.

Your recipe looks good for Texans. My diet is very strict and limited for health reasons.

We hit 99 today, which surprised me. I wandered outside a couple times, it didn't feel too bad. Supposed to cool down a few degrees for the next few days and a chance for rain. We could use some, the ground dries out so fast.

He hasn't been around for several days has he? I hope he's doing okay. I enjoy talking with him.

The highlight of my day was having my Miracle Gro Singles arrive from Walmart. LOL! ^_^

How was your day?

I guess my highlight was getting a set of pruning shears I ordered the other day, a bypass pruner and scissors. I was amazed at how heavy they are. These should last a long time. ;) And I managed to get a haircut yesterday. So I'm happy. Doesn't take much!

 Very happy for you! I'm waiting for a trowel I ordered the same day I ordered the Miracle Gro. I got a haircut about a month ago. To save money I don't get them very often.

I have a bunch of small stick cacti ready to transplant into pots that have last year's almost dead mums in them. The cacti thrive, get big and don't need to be watered aside from rain.
