I have entered this discussion with others as to the nature of Mystery Babylon. I myself believe that it is a real place that probably exist now but has not yet reached its end. Others feel that it is not to be taken literally.
Mystery Babalon is 1st century Jerusalem before the Temple was destroyed by Jesus Christ of Nazareth.I have entered this discussion with others as to the nature of Mystery Babylon. Than what is the conection to the end times? The temple is to be rebuilt and the sacrifices started again.Mystery Babalon is 1st century Jerusalem before the Temple was destroyed by Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Blessings.
If we refer to Revelation 17, then Babylon is a metaphor of the Roman Empire.I have entered this discussion with others as to the nature of Mystery Babylon. Revelation was written to the Seven Churches of Asia. It is best to assume that what was written in the book was fully understood by the original audience of the first-century, and does not refer to events beyond their own knowledge and age (else, it would have not been written specifically for these churches).Than what is the connection to the end times? The temple is to be rebuilt and the sacrifices started again.
Literal. Mystery Babylon is a religionI have entered this discussion with others as to the nature of Mystery Babylon. I myself believe that it is a real place that probably exist now but has not yet reached its end. Others feel that it is not to be taken literally.
Babylon is that spirit which does, or tries to do, etc, what Babylon in the OT was trying to do with or to the Israelite people back then, etc. Many Jewish people did not go back to Jerusalem when the time came, and many of them had began to already become a part of the Babylon culture, etc, and had even started serving other gods, all but forsaking their own gods and/or God, and/or own culture and own God/gods, so that it was impossible to, even just only believe for some of them now, or ever go back to that now ever again, etc...I have entered this discussion with others as to the nature of Mystery Babylon. I myself believe that it is a real place that probably exist now but has not yet reached its end. Others feel that it is not to be taken literally.
Good question for a Dispensational Futurist. In full disclosure, I used to be one and now I am not. Too many holes and a very messy system of exegesis. I had to research other views and found that the early church was mostly partial Preterist which is what I am now. So I re-read Revelation 17 with the lens of a first century Christian. It made much more sense! The book tells us in the beginning that all that is in its pages are to take place soon just as Jesus Christ of Nazareth predicted that ,that generation will not pass until all has been fulfilled. It's fulfillment was in 70AD.Than what is the conection to the end times? The temple is to be rebuilt and the sacrifices started again.
Not sure where you heard this, but in Islam Babylon is nothing more than an ancient city and doesn't have a role in current or future events. The Muslims believe NYC is Babylon, and that was the reason for destroying the world trade center.
Hills can also represent governments or authorities is it possible that it could be the G7 of which America is a part, and considered the most powerful part?If we refer to Revelation 17, then Babylon is a metaphor of the Roman Empire.
The "seven mountain" refers to the Seven Hills that formed the geographical heart of Rome. Vespasian minted several coins during his office with one of them depicting a woman sitting on seven hills on the reverse side of the coin with the word "Roma" written underneath the image.
Suetonius, a Roman historian, excludes the short reign of Galba, Otho, and Vitellius as rebels of the empire, and may not have included them as legitimate rulers. If this is true, and we were to work the seven kings (Revelation 17:10) from Augustus, then the "one that is" refers to Vespasian, and the "other" yet to come would be his son Titus, and the eighth "which belongs to the seven," which personifies the beast, would be Domitian, Vespasian's other son. This fits with the fact that Vespasian and Titus were responsible for the destruction of the Second Temple under Nero's office.
However, I am taking a sort of preterist view of these particular portions of the book, so my interpretation could be wrong.
So the book of Revelation is completed? Jesus has returned? Babylon has been destroyed? The beast has been thrown into the pit of fire? Satan is bound up? Could it be that Jesus was referring to the generation that was born at the beginning of the end times? Not the generation back then? What sense does the book of Revelation make if it has already been fulfilled? When has the world been cashless? I do not agree that this was something from the past since it is Jesus' Revelation not seperated Revelations of the end times taking place over a non sequential time line.Good question for a Dispensational Futurist. If by chance a temple were to be rebuilt, it would mean nothing to a Christian but unfortunately to a Jew practicing Judaism it has significant consequences.
Blessings.
You don't seem to understand the term "partial preterist". Most of revelation has already been fulfilled over the last 1900+ years. We have some things still to unfold yet.So the book of Revelation is completed?

How would a first-century Christian know that when they read this book? Is it perhaps a modern lens we put on it?Hills can also represent governments or authorities is it possible that it could be the G7 of which America is a part, and considered the most powerful part?
Except it repeats/changes faces, and was written with that in mind, so that it might be seen, all throughout this time, etc...It was Pagan Rome and the beast was Nero.
