  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What have you made lately?

Yes, all natural. It like rocks you see in a stream, the colors really stand out. BTW if you get rocks that nature has already mostly polished and smoothed (like from a river or the beach) you can skip the initial steps in the polishing process.
That's cool that you were able to find those. I've only ever seen colored rocks like that in one place and that was Mt. Zion in Utah.

The reason I was asking is something I've thought about making for years is, plowing up the grass in my lawn and making a glass beach of it.

Of course these are not rocks but glass naturally polished smooth by the ocean, but I'd love to have that for a lawn. It'd be beautiful, plus I wouldn't have to mow. The only thing holding me back is that I've never seen it done, and I don't want to be the weirdo non-conformist guy in the neighborhood. I'm a big proponent of conformity. :)

If you are not familiar with the T-puzzle
here is a video about one.

Very nice. I love the fact that you take scraps that would not otherwise be useful for anything, and turn them into something both beautiful and functional.

Thank you, i hate to throw away wood. Even small scraps can eventually find a use. Where i teach art to young kids, I can use this puzzle to help promote a few problem solving skills.

I wanted to have the puzzle pieces with the puzzle but in away as to not give the solution. So i made the outer area, a storage place where they can be keep but not in away that will give any hint to the solution.

There used to be a glass recycling bin at the county nursery. They took all kinds of glass and smoothed it like that to make “glass mulch”. Then they used it in medians and at intersections around plants. It was REALLY nice, imo, but it does glitter in the sunlight. Not every piece so it’s not blinding, but it definitely reflects light.

I actually wanted to try it as a mulch too, but not able to get enough around here anymore, since they no longer recycle glass that way.

Ok one more from me, another T type puzzle. You try to fit the 4 t's in to the space provided. On the other side the space is smaller, so to solve the puzzle for that side a different solution is needed.

With glue, clamps, a planer, table saw and a miter saw most any piece of scrap wood can basically be used till just the smallest of scrap wood is left.

I'm going to see if I can repair an old MIG welder I've come across, and then I plan to build a portable charcoal barbecue out of stainless steel. My daughter wanted us to do the lamb on the spit this Pascha, but the zinc coating on the old BBQ had gone and the bottom had rusted out.
It's now been a few years since we last did the lamb on the spit, but I knocked together a long ice box out of pallet timber back then so I could prepare the lamb in advance, tie it onto the spit and coat it with salt, pepper, oregano and olive oil. I then wrapped it in cling wrap and dropped it into the box which I had lined with styrofoam, it had a slot at each end where the spit would stick out, then I would empty a few bags of ice into it and close the lid. It was born out of necessity as there was no way we could fit a whole lamb in the fridge.

Latest scrap wood build. I needed a light table for a project i was doing. I had in the past just made due with leaning a plate of glass over a light and using that to trace something.

But i decided i had the scrape wood might as well make a table i can use again and again if needed.

Then the idea came to me, that i could use the base and make a few additions and also have a drawing table from the same base. So i made that pictures below of the additions i made so i can also use the base for a drawing table support.

I made it so a larger piece of plywood can be set on top for larger drawings below

Here is a small project i did today. I have had these measuring spoons for a while and they were kept on the key ring they came on, when i bought them something like this below.

iu

So i decided to make this, to keep them on after the other day the ring came apart. A little scrap of cypress, routered the top and bottom and on the back inserted two magnets, so i can keep it on the side of the refrigerator. Used 10# galvanized finish nails for the hanging supports for the spoons.
