• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm limited only by your refusal to check your memory.

I'm not going to assume my memory is infallible when all the evidence shows that it's not.

You've never provided any reason why we should accept memory as infallible when the evidence shows it is very fallible.

there is no evidence a particular memory is fallible

especially since our memories are the same

Do you remember "the lion and the lamb"?

Now "the wolf and the lamb"…

Sure, it’s a lyric from the hymn “Peace in the valley.” I prefer Eastern Orthodox hymns which are more doctrinally oriented.

If you are thinking of Isaiah, there is a Mandela effect meme, but it always said “the wolf shall lie down with the lamb” which makes a lot more sense in light of other verses such as “wolves in sheeps’ clothing.”

In Buddhism, in some branches, there is a belief in a deceptive demon called Mara. I think if you were to ask a hardcore monk or lama in one of those traditions, he would attribute the Mandela effect to the delusions people follow due to Mara.

One last time - why does nobody ever remember somebody disappearing in front of them?

I refuse to discuss private religious experiences publically, because they may not be authentic, and if they are authentic, they are no reason for people to believe in Christianity, for our faith is not supposed to be based on signs and wonders, and my congregation has enough reason to suspect their presbyter is eccentric; I don’t want to give them cause to suspect I am totally bonkers, especially if the event did not happen. Also, what I saw could be misinterpreted or used as a justification for false doctrine, even if it was authentic.

Suffice it to say, I have never seen anything to indicate the existence of the Mandela Effect.

There have been literally TONS of examples of people's memories being fallible. There have been many cases where it has been shown that people can be given false memories very easily. Creating False Memories

especially since our memories are the same

The memories are NOT the same, that is the entire basis for your argument.

No one noticed Worf shifting

Maybe they did, since we never saw the reactions of people who were left behind. We always shifted with Worf.

In any case, treating an episode of Star Trek as evidence for the real world make no sense at all.
