  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There is, of course, also the question of what happens to the person whose position you take. If JohnEmmett has jumped to this reality, where has the JohnEmmett from this reality gone?
It's a straight swap, of course... This nonsense is just a kind of 'Last Thursdayism' in a wrapper of pseudoscience. It's a perversion of the multiverse - you could, with equal justification, extend it to every tiny memory lapse and/or error you make, so that everything that isn't perfect in your life is not your fault but the result of an unfortunate timeline switch. Ultimately it leads to a self-centered view of life as a victim; fatalistic, meaningless, and random.

Indeed. It's either a straight swap or a game of musical chairs. That's obviously a far more satisfactory answer than fallible memory.

No it doesn't. Star Trek is a story. Do not get your science education from 1990s sci fi television. There's a lot in Star Trek that is just wrong.

Definition of miss the forest for the trees

to not understand or appreciate a larger situation, problem, etc., because one is considering only a few parts of it.

A few parts of it? Your entire argument was, "It must be true because I saw it in an episode of Star Trek once." It wasn't just a few parts, it was the WHOLE part.

Read this article if you want to know my entire argument
Quantum Immortality
Instead of reading error-strewn clickbait pop-sci articles by non-scientists, try reading or listening to scientists that know what they're talking about. If you're going to take an interest in an idea like quantum immortality, at least make the effort to find out what it's really about.

Ah, yes, the old, "They laughed at Galileo, and he was proven to be right, therefore, since they are laughing at me, I'll be proven right too!"

Remember, they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

Sometimes I feel not myself

Perhaps because I shifted
Almost certainly not. There are a large number of known physiological and psychological ways by which you can feel 'not yourself' without throwing out known physics and invoking science-fantasy.
