House votes against striking Pelosi remarks from record
The House voted against striking Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) floor remarks blasting President Trump from the record on Tuesday after the House parliamentarian in a rare rebuke of the Speaker said her comments violated House rules.

The vote on the motion to strike Pelosi’s remarks failed in a 190-232 vote with no Democratic support. Every Republican voted in favor of the motion.

The parliamentarian ruled the speech violated rules forbidding personal attacks on the House floor against the president.
A person that steals from a store is called a thief. A person that competes in professional sports is called an athlete. A person that recites spoken word is called a poet. A person who promotes the welfare of others especially through the donation of money to a cause is called a philanthropist. Are people not defined by their actions?

I hope not. An action is only a moment in time, the person who is an athlete, can also be a parent and a teacher, at the same time being a person of great faith and charity etc.

We are the culmination of many things... not only one thing. I don't care to be defined by one action, or a 5 year period of my life, but by my heart and what that heart showed over the course of my lifetime.

Well, of course. We can be many things at he same time. A guy can be a gang leader and a loving son (e.g., members of the Sicilian mafia come to mind). But if we continue to commit certain acts, is it incorrect to label someone based on those actions? And I'm not talking about one action, rather a pattern of actions that soon becomes habit.

It really depends... if your going to take someone who has engaged in philanthropic activities, who has regularly engaged in raising women to ever higher positions of employment and opportunities, constantly giving opportunities to minorities and define them by a few mistakes in life, then I'd call you wrong.

Those with an agenda of their own will only present and/or see whatever advances their agenda to their best advantage so it also depends on who one is speaking to, whether or not there's even a conversation to be had... or whether your about to get propaganda vomit all over you...

I believe in that. Wasn't it Jesus who said that a tree is defined by the fruit it produces? People are the same way. Their actions defines who they are.

Generally speaking, I'd say yes. Behavior is an indicator of identity. Yet not always. What if a man wants to be a rapist. He plans it, he dreams it, all his focus is upon a strong desire to be a rapist. But he knows that there are severe consequences to rape. So his fear overrides his desire and he never lays a hand on a woman. What man is he?

A rapist wannabe. What one thinks but doesn't do is something no one else even knows about.

Nothing rubs me the wrong way more then when someone quotes Oprah in saying "when someone shows you who they are, believe them." Where are the second chances in this statement? Or third or fourth?, etc. Considering where this came from I can understand why it was said.

One can only hope.

In the meantime, we observe their actions and decide based on that.
Right. If your actions are exceedingly immoral, you can be defined by that. I remember a person once saying he would not rent apartments to certain races of people. He gladly proclaimed this, I think that makes him a racist. Whether he's a churchgoer, a good father to his kids or nice to animals does not negate the fact that he is ALSO a racist.

Then try this quote:

If someone cheats me once, shame on them. If they cheat me again, shame on me.

I'm all for additional 'chances', but once someone has shown me who they are, it is up to them to show me they have changed.

How does that rub you the wrong way? If the person wants to change your mind, then they will show you another aspect of themselves. If you kill someone with malice, you are a murderer. Is there room for remorse, growth and forgiveness? Of course, but they are still a murderer. If someone says and does racist things, they are a racist. Is there room for them to renounce their past and turn around their lives to become an ally to the people they previously scorned? Of course, e.g., Robert Byrd. However, if you say and do something horrible, yet make no move to reform, then believe that's who that person is.

Hmm.. is it by the one action that now defines you? So.. what are you trying to say about Nancy? Or? You put it there for a reason
Straw man, where did anyone argue that one action defines someone?

EDIT: Although, I'm pretty sure, killing an innocent person with malice makes you a murderer, even for killing just one person.

You people would absolutely hate me then.. lol.

I guess that's why I feel more of an affinity toward those who aren't left-wing activists.. when they realized they couldn't use me as their poster child they had no love for me..

No love lost I guess.. but we are all more than some are willing to define us as.

Far more..
