I went to the store today and bought some chips so I had something to snack on for later. Before I started eating I felt guilty that I already had other snacks sitting around the house. It made me think about the people that don’t have the money to buy anything. Is it bad to buy snacks?

Don't worry about the poor. They spend 20 percent of their food allowance on junk food and snacks. That's an average of $25 per person per month. So a family of four on food stamps spends $100 per month on snacks.

It sounds like God may have been convicting you on how you are spending your money. There is nothing sinful in buying snacks in itself. But it may not be the best way to be using the money God gives you...or may not be the best way to be fueling the body that God gave you. An apple or carrots can also be considered snacks. This sounds more like a topic for prayer in your life.

Seek Yahweh's Kingdom, and don't give up seeking.
He will deliver you , as also all of His Own, from trivial purchases that lack discipline and purpose. He will also open the way , His Way, to call nothing your own, and show you what His Purpose is for everything He Provides to you.

Romans 14:17 - King James Bible

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Luke 21:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
21 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

Don't worry about having a snack, Its ok to be ok. If your not right , you will not be of much good for others. Take good care of yourself and have a heart right with God.

.
No it's not bad to buy snacks, but maybe God is showing you how you could bless those people you thought about.

Every time you buy a snack for yourself, put the same amount of money in a jar, and after you have bought 10 snacks, take the money and give it to help a poor person.
Or food bank, soup kitchen, homeless shelter, even clothes like a winter jacket for the poor, it doesn't have to be food, the poor have need of everything.

Based on the (little) information you gave: There is nothing categorically wrong with snacks. Knowing why you feel guilty about something can take a long time to recognize. Eventually you may find they all "feel" different. It could be:

1. Conviction from God, in which case it will be tied to a God-relationship or moral issue (such as if you believed it was immoral to buy snacks).

2. False conviction from Satan meant to weigh you down with self-rejection and get you more focused on yourself than God (and the freedom he purchased for you).

3. Your own subconscious thoughts bubbling up to the surface.

Speaking as someone raised in the U.S.A. and who was raised by the parents I have, 99.9% of the guilt I've experienced has been the product of a bit of generalized self-condemnation reaching my consciousness. If you might be in this category, then I suggest you take up a Bible study on our freedom in Christ and the grace we have from God. E.g., The books of Galatians and Romans, and one book/study that helped me was The Grace Awakening by Charles R. Swindoll.

Ya gotta eat. Snacks of the right kind can be part of a healthy diet. My issue is,what is in those snacks? GMOs? Hydrogenated oils? Excitotoxins? Soy? (Many people are allergic to soy and it is estrogenic", giving rise to the not very kind phrase "Soy boy".) Almost invariably those ingredients will be found, and others just as bad, in commercial snacks. In fact, one commercially prepared snack may contain all those items!

You can make your own healthy snacks, or get fruit as a snack. You could have some all natural peanut butter and raw, organic honey on some healthy crackers or bread, for example. You will be doing your body a big favor and we all just get one body.

If your body if healthy you will be best able to serve the Father.

"Don't worry about the poor"? That is the opposite attitude that the Bible recommends. In fact we are told that those who give to poor "Lend to the Lord."

You don't know that every last person who is poor is spending food money on snacks. But if that is the case, great, give healthy food to Christian food kitchens and such! The children, particularly, need milk products. You could donate cheese items for them. That's what I felt led to do.

It is good to be discerning and give wisely. For example once I was approached by a man on the street who said he needed money to buy milk for his baby. I said I would go to a grocery store near by, get some Enfamil and be right back. Not to my surprise, he wasn't there when i got back.

However, wise giving is smart.

Proverbs 21:13 Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need.

Actually, Scripture says that if you serve the Father your body will be healthy.
You serve the Father, one way, by taking care of your body. Or are you saying that one can live on sodas and Big Macs, and candy, and be just as good for service as one who eats wisely?

Also, since junk food is so low in nutrition it fits into the category of gluttony, for it stuffs the face and stomach without really being nutritious.

Actually, for those seeking to serve the Father, Jesus told them directly "you must be holy", and taught them how to be, to live holy , set apart lives daily.

That left out a lot that is done and practiced today, even taught by religious leaders and groups in error, in sin.

Actually, Scripture says that if you serve the Father your body will be healthy.

Yes, it is possible. It can be done with the faith God might give, but the bottom line is that the results are up to God, not us. We are to be good stewards of our bodies according to the knowledge and wisdom God has given us. But when there wasn't the kind of information we have now about health, Scripture clearly says God blessed his devoted, obedient followers with good health, so in those cases, it was not about eating healthy as we currently understand "eating healthy." Eating the "fat portions" was considered by God to be a good thing. I'd rather take my chances with God rather than with health scientists, who are constantly changing what they believe is healthy.

You say, "We are to be good stewards of our bodies according to the knowledge and wisdom God has given us." Uh, seems to me that was just what I was saying.

It seems possible that while the people in the Bible didn't have the technical knowledge we have about food, they also didn't generally have depleted soils, polluted air and rain that pollutes the food, GMOs, excitotoxins, hydrogenated oils, refined sugars, and so on. So I don't feel too sorry for them.

However, of course, if we don't have good knowledge about food, or good food for that matter, the Father can still show us mercy. But we are to do our parts, as best we can, according to your sentence quoted above.

I was responding to this statement. Put your trust in God for good health, not your own understanding of what is healthy and your efforts.
