Remarkably (and inexplicably) the author omits the most important reason why our schools are failing: Lack of proper discipline of both students and staff. Proper discipline would solve many school problems.

Your comment about teachers applying a version of 'survival of the fittest' to their classrooms is just complete and utter marlarkey with a giant side of steam bull droppings. Just because the American government doesn't give a rats behind about the state of their school systems doesn't mean scientists should be the ones who get the blame just because you don't agree with the fact that evolution is a part of modern biological science.
