I have read comments in various threads about apostles and prophets don't exist today. Also that the miracles that Jesus did and the apostles only happened back then. Then the comments that for the most part scriptures were pertaining to the Jews only. Oh and that God doesn't speak to us except through the Bible.

So here is my question: If the Bible only pertains to the Jews why read it if you are not a Jew? This also implies that the Bible is nothing more than a history book of the accounts of others lives.
If miracles only occurred back then, why pray for a miracle? Why pray at all?
If apostles and prophets don't exist today why are we warned of "false prophets" (to me this implies there are prophets). If God doesn't speak to us, then how do we receive direction in our personal lives?

My point in all this is I am tired of the continual debate trying to minimize the Power of the Living Word in our lives. By faith I believe He talks to me and I hear His voice. By faith I believe that I can pray and whatever I have need of when I pray in Jesus name it is answered. By faith I believe I serve the same God as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and that He is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever. By faith I believe the Word of God is a Living Word and that it applies to me as well as it did to those in the Bible. By faith I believe that all things are possible with God and that He intended for All Teachings to Be Continued throughout eternity.

Okay, I am just frustrated with the reasoning of people who argue that the Bible, (in part) is not applicable to us today .

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Miracles, Divine healing, and other manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and lives of the Old Testament saints are just as relevant today. Please don't lose hope. Peace in Christ :).

The Bible doesn't only pertain to Jews.

Early on in New Testament writings, ... the Gentiles are included into the family of God.

The Ethiopian eunuch, Greek Cornelius, and the Philippian Lydia are all examples.

The Christian church eventually became a mostly Gentile body.

Galatians 3

26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

For me it depends what you mean by this statement.
I believe Jesus fulfilled all the law both moral and cerimonial and for that reason we do not have follow the cerimonial laws. They are not applicable to us.
In the same way the laws rel;ating to murder etc do not apply to us. We are not to take an abusive/disrespectfull son before the city elders and stone him to death.

Do miracles happen today? People claim that they do. I have never seen one. I pray to God because he is my heavenly Father.
Does he answer, what do you mean by answer.
Christians on death row in islamic countries are still there, Christianity is spreading among muslims, but not among the western people.
I trust God because of who and what he is not for what he does when I pray.

Miracles occur today.

If apostles and prophets don't exist today why are we warned of "false prophets" (to me this implies there are prophets). If God doesn't speak to us, then how do we receive direction in our personal lives?

Apostles and Prophets exist today ... though you must be very discerning (i.e. apply the tests that Israel was instructed to apply in the Old Testament). If a "prophet's" message contradicts the previously delivered Word of God (i.e. the scriptures), then that prophet is to be ignored. If a prophet's prediction does not come to pass, ... then that prophet should be ignored.

My point in all this is I am tired of the continual debate trying to minimize the Power of the Living Word in our lives. By faith I believe He talks to me and I hear His voice. Amen ...

You can ask God for prayers and He will answer those prayers and you will receive a miracle result.
Experience says that it only works to your satisfaction and not for others.
It may have been that way in the past as well.

so why would it frustrate you that others haven't yet receive this gift?
It frustrates me because of those who come here seeking answers receive contradictory replies...it frustrates me because those that give their input are not rightly dividing the Truth! I guess I am just grieved by all the false statements and false teaching going on for the most part. :(

I understand, you are frustrated by the hindrance the words of others cause to the seekers. They not only choose not to enter in themselves, but they hinder those who would enter in as well.

I agree.

Okay, I am just frustrated with the reasoning of people who argue that the Bible, (in part) is not applicable to us today .

Agnostic, I finally began to seek God, and though I didn't realize it then, I was doing as Christ said:

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
I encourage all to read the next verse too!
Matthew 7 NIV

In that moment I was truly seeking. It was real, in my heart. (some point out this is by His grace, but let's stay on track instead of diverting!)

Like this even:

12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity."

I prayed "God....make a way from me to you. Bring me to you."

And so He answered in this way:

Not long after that seeking prayer, I slid backwards off a 2nd story roof about 20 feet above large rocks, near the edge of a 1rst floor balcony, where the likelihood was I'd careen off that railing and smash onto the rocks below.

Totally unable to stop my fall in any way at all. Totally unable, I prayed one word in complete need, and ....with faith (by His grace). All at once. Total reliance. "Help!"

I woke up perfectly balanced on the first floor balcony railing, my legs out in the air over the remaining 12 feet above the rocks. Utterly still and balanced. Shocked -- 'where am I? ..what just happened!?....' A second later the tall extension ladder slammed down against the railing about a foot away. It was like a dream. Twilight zone stuff. But utterly real.

That was only the first of some other situations of impossible seeming answered prayers. Christ said how prayers are answered, the way to pray that He said, several crucial things. He told us many crucial things recorded in the four gospel accounts -- things we cannot live without -- words He spoke to us, to you and to me, so that we would listen and hear.

Agreed. Most of those who proclaim that there are no prophets are nevertheless quick to use the term "false prophets." It's as if they are quick to give the Devil more power than they give to God Himself.
By faith I believe the Word of God is a Living Word and that it applies to me as well as it did to those in the Bible.

Agreed. He was converting souls during New Testament times precisely because he was a Living God, i.e. and manifesting Himself in supernatural power, unlike the gods of the Gentiles (1 Thessalonians 1:5, 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10). To limit Him by preaching that He no longer does so today is to in effect turn him into one of the dead idols of the past.

Example: I pray and ask God to heal my body and He heals it...answer to prayer.
I am pleased for you.
Have you noticed that ever example of God/Jesus healing is always of others and was a means of evangelism.
So your doctor knew about your illness and has noted that you have been healed. This is shown in your medical notes.

What a mighty testimony! I do believe...my thread is a challenge to those (if they read it) to think about what they constantly claim about God's Word.

You know this doesn't make any sense that I can only pray for the healing of others....once again and my point...limiting the Power of God.
Here is my testimony of healing: Every change of season I would get the worst allergy attack and end up with a sinus infection. One day I asked God to please heal me of my allergies...He replied "if you will quit calling them "yours" (teaching me to quit putting ownership on things in my body) then I will heal you....I never suffered another allergy attack again...that was about 12 years ago. Not ONE single sinus infection...none, zilch since I prayed. A doctor doesn't need to tell me I was healed I KNEW I was healed.

Here is another point....if I had gone to a doctor for my cure then people would argue it was the doctor who healed me. My healing came from Him and Him alone.

Ive had similar experiences.....I've found that the reasons for my non-healing was related to the request. for instance.....requesting to be healed is the same as saying I am sick.......words that should never be utter by one who desires to be and remain healthy....

It is all about evidence.
You say you have been cured of an allergy, but have no medical evidence that you had an allergy or that you have been 'cured'.
Try posting your healing on an atheist forum and defend your claim, without medical evidence you will get nowhere.

Yeah, evidence....kind of why there are atheists who don't believe in a God or Jesus....where is the evidence?
