Theres 2 perceptions of nurses. Hot sexy nurses and Nurses from hell. I'm not sure which of these if any you would put yourself in @blackribbon but this is the perception from my experience.

The media molds the general public's image of most occupations. Sadly, there are very few shows that actually portray nursing as it really is. In fact, I can't think of one.

LOL...well, they do. He had two teenage boys he was raising himself. He was in construction and if I remember correctly, owned his own business and didn't make any money if he didn't work so he was trying to get out as fast as possible. This wasn't the first time he had this problem because of the way his hair grew (not a cleanliness issue). .... he also thanked me for making a very embarrassing situation not feel so embarrassing.. We also talked about his kids in more detail

Most doctor shows like House and Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs show the doctors doing nurse's activities. For example, doctors don't give meds. They write the orders and we give the meds. They don't even have access to the medications cabinet.

When I am in the hospital, I just don't stop talking.

Not uncommon...that is how I learn so much. It is lonely to be stuck in the hospital. And since I work night shift, I get people when they are tired and at their most vulnerable.

Of course, there are the patients who really aren't that sick...maybe admitted only for over night observation and they sleep my whole shift so I don't know much more about them than a basic assessment and why they are there.
