How harshly is the age gap judged?

Well I am 25 and it disturbs and angers me personally, but it's their life. I get annoyed by older men who date women my age. It's like find someone your own age. When I'm old they probably ignore me to chase girls half my age. Personally it's sexist and borderline pedophile to me when men do that it disturbs me. Especially because of the double standard, older women dating young men isn't looked on quiet as nice but men do whatever they want. And that young girl she deserves a a young man her own age, it's a disjustice to young women for an old man to date them. Im real spiteful about it so probably don't want my thoughts on this one lol.

Lots of interesting, and self centered comments here on this thread. Esp from women. I think I was the only one who posted earlier , that made reference to scripture. As Christians, we are to be guided by what scripture tell us. The first command God gave was to procreate and that is a valid reason why men, yes even older men, would desire a younger woman. There is nothing perverted or wrong about it. If there is - SHOW ME BIBLICALY
You see, I have known lots of women that preferred older guys and have been told- they are more stable, more confident, better providers, less likely to fool around, more loving and appreciate, better fathers and on and on.
Plus, being married to an older guy can make life for a woman much, much easier. It is harder for the strong willed woman because she wants to dominate. Those like younger men or weaker minded men.
A young couple struggles with many things- finances, getting a home, paying bills and on and on. A gal that chooses a more mature man will already have most of those things already in place and she can focus on being a wife and mother instead of focusing on a job or career as most do now.
We all have our choices and that is fine but, all this critism on age split relationships is nuts. Fact is- It is so hard to find the right person in this world, the age difference is hardly worth being so critical over.
For those who are so bothered by it, get over it! If the Lord is not against it, you should not be either.

Unaffected by the insult. My opinion wasn't meant to be a put down it's how I genuinely feel about the situation. I feel the same rage when I hear of sexual assault or something like that. I feel like women are treated like trophies and objects. They only want us young women for sex and to look good. Tired of the way society treats young women and tired of men treating women like they are only valuable when they are young and beautiful. I'm sure he could have found a woman in his own age group, maybe he is only interested in young ones because of looks, not saying that's absolutely true, maybe it's genuine love, but you said she got pg before the wedding so it sounds like lust.

I've had older men in church try to date me after divorcing their older wives. It's insulting. They chase you because you're young and attractive once you get older they'll throw you out like an old rag. That's how men are because society tells them to think that way.


If it's genuine love congrats to them, but yes in kinder words it does feel like too large of an age gap.

I disagree. I used to think about it that way, but once she's in her forties he'll be in his sixties and a caretaker for him. I read an article about a young woman who married an older guy back when I was thinking it was a good idea to do this. I learned that he was abusive because he was older. He called the woman fat and said mean things because he was scared she'd leave him for a younger man because she was young and attractive. I don't think it's a good idea for young women to marry old men. I'm sure old men think it's a good idea because look who benefits, but a young woman who does it may only be looking for money. I mean wouldn't even enjoy playing with kids because the mad would be too old to do it. I don't think the Lord has mentioned it. It's a grey area. The Lord doesn't mention divorce if your husband is an abuser either, does that mean women should have to stay with abusive men? No. The Bible says a lot of things that favor men Don't get me wrong I read it and still try to follow it, but the Bible does seem sexist in some ways and probably because men who were in a time that being sexist was okay wrote it. Btw I'm not a feminist, I just think men have it too good and too many privileges.

Get off your high horse. There is a reason you are the only one who made a reference to scripture. It's because there is nothing in Scripture relevant to what most of us are saying. This is a topic about our feelings/opinions, and the Bible is pretty silent on the issue. And if the feelings of some people (or all people) on here are self-centered... so be it. the question was how harshly we judge and why, not whether whether the Bible says it is right or wrong

that's pretty silly to think that in order for something to be wrong, it must be in the Bible. By your reasoning, pedophilia (or whichever one describes girls who have hit puberty) is ok too. little girls can procreate before the age of 14. and there is nothing in the Bible that condemns it.
Not everything has to be in the Bible to be said to be wrong. we can apply biblical principles, common sense, and our own conscience. In fact, the Bible says that something is a sin if your conscience tells you it is. that changes from person to person. And what some of these people are saying, is what their conscience says.

If your goal is to get someone to ignore their conscience... be careful because you are on dangerous ground.

Really, I thought it was about as mild as possible a reaction to you accusing a man of being a pedophile who has dedicated his life to protection of the weak as a police detective and has actually investigated and arrested several pedophiles.

You seriously equate a man dating someone 16 years younger than him with sexual assault and pedophilia???

In my case, I would be dating a 32 year old woman. You really think a woman at 32 years old is the victim of sexual assault by dating me simply because of the age gap? And that I'm a pedophile??
