  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Margot Robbie is one very very very very, hmmm, how shall I say this delicately on an Orthodox forum, "not ugly" lady. She's Australian. Another Aussie who I think can "out-not-ugly" Margot is Yvonne Strahovsky. Frankly, looking at her is painful. Downright painful. What is it with Australians!?

At least she laced the thing all the way up and tied everything on tightly. But yeah ... just wait, Gurney, someday you will have teenage and young-adult children ... :p

And I am SO thankful that stage only lasted a year or so! She's felt the tug of God on her heart and made some changes (she wasn't doing THAT badly, but still ... )

Having them grow up can be a harrowing experience for a parent! WONDERFUL occasion for prayer though!

I read today. Two weeks in a row now. It's getting so much easier and everyone is giving me good feedback. I always pray to the Theotokos before reading that I can do the Lord's words through Blessed Paul justice, and the Psalms of David the glory they're due.

Anyway, Father Russell from Montana visited us. WOW. Every time he visits, his sermons are so amazing that they flat out leave us all with dropped jaws and big eyes. Have you ever experienced a priest who seems to have the Holy Spirit so much that it's oozing out his pores and dripping from his hands? This priest is just amazing. His sermon was about Orthodox Community, that we all need each other, that in our parish, across the world, all of we Orthodox need each other. We do nothing in isolation from each other or God. He pointed out how the three fingers together when we Cross ourselves is even a sign that the Trinity needs each other in oneness and we need Him. He said something that all of us responded to----"We do EVERYTHING together as Orthodox Christians. We need one another. We pray together, worship together, participate in the life of the Church together, fast together. We do nothing apart if we're Orthodox. THERE'S ONLY ONE THING YOU DO ALONE---GO TO HELL." He went on to describe the very reason Satan and the diabolic powers are diabolic, because they seek isolation and selfishness. Do-it-yourself Christianity is nonsense.....that was the message. I thought since today was the Feast of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Councils, it really drove home the idea that we need the Fathers so much, each other, and forums like this. It's a holistic journey.

Then we go to the Coffee Hour, which amounted to a massive banquet, and those friends I mentioned who can get a touch "Protestanty" started up on politics. We all pretty much agreed on politics at our table, always do. Then our other reader comes by and greets everyone and those friends started up talking Trump and how evil Hillary is. Oh man. This guy gets on a socialism kick and tells us how he smokes marijuana and wants to legalize drugs and is all for taxing the rich and made this gal's eyes bug out like hard boiled eggs. Crazy.

Sometimes at coffee hour you learn things about people you'd rather keep in the vault! LOL
Sounds like an awesome teaching. :) That is an important factor to me, always brought into my thoughts. I am not sure why exactly, but it has been one of the top lessons, repeated over and over, that God has truly made me see in so many ways. Maybe because it helped me understand and accept the communion of the Saints as well? Maybe for additional reasons too. But yes, vitally important.

You know, not only do we need each other to be encouraged, to receive and give help, to be prayed for, and all those "positive" reasons, but really ... it is the difficult-to-love people that teach us how to REALLY love. Even in a negative sense, we benefit one another.

And yeah, sometimes I learn things about people I'd rather not know!!! It was a bit of an exercise for me early on. There is a tendency to hear (almost be forced to hear) things about others I'd rather not know, and it caused me some difficulty when I first came to the parish, and a lot of working through my own reactions. Now I think I have managed to somehow set my brain on "erase" and if I don't actually manage to forget what I hear (sometimes I do forget), then at least I can manage not to allow it to be brought to mind. Usually. Sometimes I still struggle at times though. I sure do wish I'd never hear such things in the first place though!

I don't think I've ever heard a man say that looking at a beautiful woman was downright painful. :D

At any rate .... I may be prejudiced (I'm sure I am) but my daughter is gorgeous too. Not exactly like Margot Robbie though, LOL. And she works out, so she's not the "long-thin" type. But I didn't know what HQ was supposed to look like when she wanted to dress up. All I know is that I had to help her put together two different sets of tights (they don't come in one-red-one-black leg) and put some of the other things on. Lacing up your daughter in gloves .... weird moment. And I think I still have some specks of red dye that didn't come out of the molding in the bathroom.

BTW, I think Margot Robbie is more beautiful than Yvonne Strahovsky - the latter seems to me a bit more "normal" in her looks. But then again, I never really concern myself with such things, LOL. And maybe it's just the particular first few images Bing pulled up. I didn't recognize either name.

Oh come now! Strahovski is the gold standard! Personally I originally wanted Alexandra Daddario to play Wonder Woman. Another painful one. But then once I saw Batman vs. Superman, though I don't find Gal Gadot painful, she's pretty spectacular in her own way. She's going to be great.

Like I said, maybe it was just the images that came up first for me. I saw Strahovski as very pretty yes - beautiful even, but I thought it was the regularity of her features that I noticed most. The photos of Margot Robbie were beautiful, not only regular features, but very fine in a way that is much rarer, I think.

I tend to evaluate (if I ever do, which is never, LOL) from an artistic point of view though. More as if I were painting this set of features compared to that set. Alexandra Daddario is beautiful as well, but to me it is within the expression - the way her features work together. She has a nicely shaped jawline too. But some of her expressions are less attractive than others. Gal Gadot (the photos I saw) was less striking than the others. I guess I agree with you there, LOL.

I think I'm glad that I rarely notice these things about faces. But then again, to be honest, I am often struck by the faces of older people, or children, or whoever, for various reasons. They are often the most beautiful to me in their own right, for their own reasons. Or those people who just have a certain light in their eyes, regardless of their other features. I actually have permanently etched on my mind two faces from decades ago that made an impression on me, not because they were "attractive" (one young man was decidedly not so, in my own opinion) but because of a light that shone from their eyes, and that actually seemed to suffuse the face of one of them.

Did you like the movie? I forgot to ask.

it had it's moments. it was more of a set up for what DC is trying to do for a solo Batman film and (especially) the Justice League. I enjoyed it.

Is it pretty kid "un-friendly?" I kind of figured.

How does he size up to Ledger's Joker? I can't fathom anyone pulling off that same level, but I hope it works out. I fail to understand why the Joker has capped metal teeth in this movie? Do they explain why?

So was the movie dirty or just too over-the-top? My kids have seen the other 3 movies plus we all watched Batman vs. Superman (I skipped through Ben Affleck's shower bat cheeks and Superman and Lois in the bathtub special edition horizontal mambo as well as the "Who the F are you!?" part), etc. Not sure if Suicide Squad is much worse or not.

My big beef with this flick is Will Smith playing Deadshot. I positively CANNOT STAND Will Smith. He's far worse than Nicholas Cage on an annoyance scale for me. I can't stomach the dude!!!! And they stick him in everything I swear!!!

yeah, it's got some trippy momenets. and Jered Leto's Joker is a wackjob

I liked Leto's take on the Joker. he's much more of a diva than Ledger's.

It's not dirty at all from what I saw, but there were some moments that might be too intense for kids. There wasn't any crudeness that I saw.

I only know the X-men from the early 70's beginnings through some of the Phoenix stuff. I was never an X-Men follower, but do like and enjoy them. I felt ambivalent about the movies. I seriously enjoyed them (even the third film everyone hated), but I just detested the LGBT allegories Singer stuck in there and that continued. Rus and I have talked about this. Lots of that in there.

But the comics of the 70's were great.

All this comic book talk got me nostalgic, anyone remember the X-Men, X-Force,X-Factor, etc. series with the holograms? that was the X-Men franchise at it peak in my opinion.

Suicide Squad should have come out before Batman vs Superman because doesn't Bruce Wayne have the docier that what's her face gave him at the end of Suicide Squad in Batman v Superman?

My biggest objection to Suicide Squad is HQ's butt hanging out of her shorts. I have panties that cover more than those shorts. I liked HQ and am going to hate seeing her as a villain in some future movie.

HQ's butt is most likely the #1 factor that will put butts in theater seats! Irony for ya!! :sorry::sorry::sorry:

Gotta admit, Margot Robbie isn't hard to look at!!
