  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know what you mean, Jay, when you say see how many schools don't teach evolution. What exactly do you have in mind here? It is true many primary and secondary schools say very little about evolutions, even in their science courses, as this is a topic b est addressed in more advanced-level classes.

I asked him that a while ago. No answer.
This is scary:

The map did not copy very well. Green dots are public schools where creationism is actually taught.

Again, Jay, I don't follow you. What schools are teaching creationism?
I asked him that a while ago. No answer.
I was looking but Zone beat me to it. You both know this to be true as well as anyone.

Here is the link to the photo Zone put up.

Creationism only gets challenged and stopped when someone complains, if no one complains it happens and children are indoctrinated and made to suffer all their lives.

I'd rather move to China than have my daughter indoctrinated into religious fundamentalism.
If you decide to stay here, you'd better not let her read what's on those coins lying around ... or hear the Pledge of Allegiance ... or hear that famous line from the Declaration of Independence.

In fact, you'd better keep her away from cars with bumper stickers, religious iconography, and the like.

Keep her away from the TV, and by all means, make sure she uses BCE & CE ... not BC & AD.

Watch the holidays too: someone might say MERRY CHRISTMAS.

In the science department, be careful how you answer her if she asks about "El Niño."

And geology too, if she asks about "Bright Angel Shale."

Ah the pledge..... everyone needs to be reminded every day that they are Americans just in case they forget.

There are very few bumper stickers in the UK and even less religion.

This I agree with, BCE & CE takes us away from the dark ages.

The British celebrate Christmas without the religion because we know it's really a pagan holiday.

Just tell her it's nature doing it's thing.
And geology too, if she asks about "Bright Angel Shale."
Tell her it was formed about 500 million years ago, about 499.9 million years before Gods were even thought of.

Perhaps that's why so many schools do it and so many people deny evolution.
Private religious schools do it, and it is legal. Teaching creationism is only illegal in public schools in the United States, because they are federally funded. Furthermore, indoctrination takes place long before evolution is taught, so plenty of the kids that are creationists before that point won't stop being creationists just because they are taught about evolution.

Either that, or it's a way we Americans can express our allegiance.

We can remedy that, you know.

Don't be absurd: I've seen, A Christmas Carol.

Interesting name for a natural phenomenon, don't you think?

Ya ... that'll keep her out of China.

Oh, well.

As your song goes:

God rest ye merry, gentlemen.
Let nothing you dismay.
Remember: Christ our Saviour was born on Christmas day.

What a sad situation to be in.
Incidentally, how would you explain the cross on your flag to someone without indoctrinating him/her into Christianity?

If you fear the green dots, you can always move to Red China.
Av those, those green dot s represent tyranny and not freedom. You are the one that should be moving to China. That was an incredibly foolish and ignorant thing to say. It shows that you do not know what is wrong with trying to teach myth as if it were a fact.

Simple, it's a left over from the crusades when people didn't know any better, the UK as you might know is pretty big on tradition that's why it's still there, every village has an old church and you should see the cathedrals, people were starving to death while they were spending fortunes on those.

Taxation without representation!?

I see that you do not understand the constitution, those people are represented. So where did you get that insane idea from that they had no representation. You need to remember the constitution runs on democratic rule and the rights of the minority. You want to take away rights of others. That is not correct.

Which was being sung in the 17th century, the first printing of the words was in the 18th century in 1760 and as you well know they still believed in magic back then.

... people were starving to death while they were spending fortunes on those.
Perhaps they should have tripled their tuition fees and used the money to feed the poor, eh?

Or maybe they were too busy impressing American sailors?

You know -- shanghaiing them from their families to serve aboard your vessels?

We have somewhat of a crude joke over here:

Q: Why do they use glass-bottom boats on Lake Erie?
A: So tourists can see the Union Jack.
