  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wow.

Okay, chief.

Carry on with your answers.

Good luck recognizing the [correct] answers when you see them.

Considering I've never seen you give any actual answers to questions, I'm not holding my breath.

You guys by your own disbelief are basically saying that Jesus and the things he did were all lies of the authors? How could they all be lying? To me to deny Christ and all the things he did, (the miracles, the teachings) you must think they are "made-up" then, and it's all one big conspiracy or something, highly illogical...
Have you ever heard the term "legends". The often have small beginnings. They grow over time, especially if people have an agenda for growing them.

Did you hear about the Jew teaching about love and charity?
Yeah, I heard he fed some people.
I heard he fed a thousand people.
What ever happened to him?
He died.
I heard he died and came back to life.
I heard he died, came back to life and went to heaven.
I heard his mother was a virgin, you know, like Dionysus' mother.
My friends and I think he is really cool.
My friends and I think he is really cool and have started to have group meetings to discuss him.
He died a hundred year ago, but I heard other stories about him from people who knew people who said they knew him and I'm going to write down some of the stuff they said.

  • Not all made up.
  • Not all lies.
  • Not all one big conspiracy.
  • Not at all illogical given the times.

Do you believe that Joseph Smith got golden tablets from the angel Moroni? Fifteen million Mormons do. And that's just within the last 200 years.

I vote we teach the Bible in school, so that future scientists and laity alike will know what it is they're railing against.

How's that?

That wouldn't help.

Then you guys would be here demanding we sort it all out for you.

And assuming you guys could even detach yourselves from your sacred Scientific Method long enough to listen to just one creation story, I would be surprised.

There's a message here.

Considering there is literally zero evidence that John Smith got golden tablets from an angel, which is the same amount of evidence that points to God having a hand in the writing of the Bible... no, there isn't.

Fine. It's the teaching of a particular viewpoint and interpretation of the bible that's more problematic.
Would this rank as neutral to you, or biased:
"This document exists. It has a long history and sustained popularity. Some people consider it to be of divine origin, some people do not. What does it actually consist of, actually contain?"

Actually that wording would do for Muslim and Hindu writings, too...

Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

Only when the particular knowledge correcting the ignorance is both painful and of no compensating use or benefit.
"Thought would destroy their paradise."
There is a place for innocent happy ignorance. But it's not a general rule.

Chris.

That minset leads to this mindset:
The majority of prophecy, not just Biblical prophecy, relies on vague language and phrases.

And do you guys apply that minset across the board?

Do you, for instance, teach Phlogiston theory alongside of Combustion theory?

And are you happy just to teach evolution and not instant creation?

Norse and Maori are my favourites.
That's nice.

Do you happen to find most Bible prophecies vague?

And if so, do you accept responsibility for that?

Or is it the Bible's fault?

What would you think if I railed to have geography removed from school, then came on the Internet and blamed my inability to find France on a map on most maps being drawn vague?

No one has removed any maps from schools yet half of Americans could not find France on a map of the world today,
35 percent of Americans can't find America on a map of the world.

Big deal.

100% of scientists can't find the route the Israelites took during the Exodus -- even when provided with their itenary in the book of Numbers.

That's because it didn't happen, ask the Jews.
