If that were true, we wouldn't see crime going down in the US as well. However, it is down dramatically in the US as well. Your assumption fails.
So atheism is on the rise and crime is on the fall - doesn't that agree with the prediction?

I think propensity to commit petty crime can't be attributed to whether you take a certain faith position or not. There're all sort of complex factors that weigh in, most of them are socioeconomic. Whether religious subscription correlates with that is meaningless: I doubt it's a causal link. Religiously-motivated murders are obviously religiously-affiliated, but that's a tautology. :p

So in short, better focus on education, welfare and opportunities if you want to lower crime rates. At its baldest, atheism doesn't have much to do with it.

Ok thats your opinion that it is blather and non stop. Thats almost a personal swipe you like to make as though i am full of it. I notice that some ridicule and be little others on hear and i think everyone has the right to have their opinion without ridicule and despite their beliefs, culture, affiliations or race.

Yes i said i do not belong to any religion, that means i dont associate myself with a religion such as catholic, baptist, Jehovah witness or which ever. I did say i have a catholic priest as a friend, i do some work with the salvation army and i have been to some of the city churches.

Being a christian is not about what religion or church you belong to its about a faith in Christ and following his teachings. That is why it is called a Christ - ian. You have a go at me and you dont even understand what a christian is. You think i have to state a religion or church to belong to. I like to associate myself with many different people and accept people as they are and for who they are. I dont judge them because of their different culture or religion because they are an individual not a stereotype of the group they belong to. Many religious groups are not truly following the teachings of Christ and are just another club or organization of people.

If you notice in my profile i have the cross sign which says christian, some put catholic or whatever religion in their profile. But mine says Christian and its there for all to see and has been from the beginning. I think that is stating who i am and you have misinterpreted what i have said and then call me a liar and have held this view ever since without clarifying it with me until now with a jibe.

I went back to your first posts which I found to be professing Christian from the first.

So atheism is on the rise and crime is on the fall - doesn't that agree with the prediction?

He and others give four main reasons for the decline:

  • Increased incarceration, including longer sentences, that keeps more criminals off the streets.
  • Improved law enforcement strategies, including advances in computer analysis and innovative technology.
  • The waning of the crack cocaine epidemic that soared from 1984 to 1990, which made cocaine cheaply available in cities across the US.
  • The graying of America characterized by the fastest-growing segment of the US population – baby boomers – passing the age of 50.
US crime rate at lowest point in decades. Why America is safer now. - CSMonitor.com

(1) Japan's Savage Military: From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people, most probably almost 6,000,000 Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war.

(2) The Khmer Rouge Hell State: In proportion to its population, Cambodia underwent a human catastrophe unparalleled in this century. Out of a 1970 population of probably near 7,100,0001 Cambodia probably lost slightly less than 4,000,000 people to war, rebellion, man-made famine, genocide, politicize, and mass murder. The vast majority, almost 3,300,000 men, women, and children (including 35,000 foreigners), were murdered within the years 1970 to 1980 by successive governments and guerrilla groups. Most of these, a likely near 2,400,000, were murdered by the communist Khmer Rouge.

(3) Turkey's Ethnic Purges: The infamy of executing this century's first full scale ethnic cleansing belongs to Turkey's Young Turk government during World War I. In their highest councils Turkish leaders decided to exterminate every Armenian in the country, whether a front-line soldier or pregnant woman, famous professor or high bishop, important businessman or ardent patriot. All 2,000,000 of them.

(4) The Vietnamese War State: Perhaps of all countries, genocide in Vietnam and by Vietnamese is most difficult to unravel and assess. It is mixed in with six wars spanning 43 years (the Indochina War, Vietnam War, Cambodian War, subsequent guerrilla war in Cambodia, guerrilla war in Laos, and Sino-Vietnamese War), one of them involving the United States; a near twenty-one year formal division of the country into two sovereign North and South parts; the full communization of the North; occupation of neighboring countries by both North and South; defeat, absorption, and communization of the South; and the massive flight by sea of Vietnamese. As best as I can determine, through all this close to 3,800,000 Vietnamese lost their lives from political violence, or near one out of every ten men, women, and children.1 Of these, about 1,250,000, or near a third of those killed, were murdered.

(5) The Pakistani Cutthroat State: After a well-organized military buildup in East Pakistan, the military launched its campaign. No more than 267 days later they had succeeded in killing perhaps 1,500,000 people, created 10,000,000 refugees who had fled to India, provoked a war with India, incited a counter-genocide of 150,000 non-Bengalis, and lost East Pakistan.

(6) Orwellian North Korea: Perhaps from 710,000 to slightly over 3,500,000 people have been murdered, with a mid-estimate of almost 1,600,000. But these figures are little more than educated guesses. In this case, Kim's thought control over all his people and their foreign and domestic communications has protected him and his party from nothing more than deep suspicion about having committed genocide so enormous as to be megamurder.

(7) Barbarous Mexico: Through its system of peonage and chattel slavery, terror, summary executions, and political terror, pre-revolutionary and revolutionary Mexican regimes committed murder on a massive scale, surely totaling at least hundreds of thousands of Indians, peons, innocent villagers, captured soldiers, and conscripts. From 1900 to 1920 total government genocide alone amounted to somewhere between some 600,000 to 3,3000,000 Mexicans, perhaps closer to 1,400,000 killed. Although these figures amount to little, more than informed guesses.

(8) Qin Dynasty: In the eight years that the Han Dynasty was being replaced by the Qin Dynasty 221-207B.C., the population of China decreased from 20 million to 10 million.

(9) Dong (Eastern) Han Dynasty 206B.C.-220A.D., the population of China was 50 million. After the transition of power to the Three Kingdom period 222-589, the population decreased to 7 million.

(10) At the end of the "Grand Guignol" inside Batavia, most sources agree, 10,000 city-Chinese lost their lives, but little is said about the many more who must have perished outside the city's walls. Of the 80,000-odd Chinese in Batavia's environs prior to the extermination, only around 3,000 survived.

You know what? You're absolutely right.

But neither is lack of religion, or having the "wrong" religion.

To some people yes. To others who don't mind being wrong all the time... I guess not. ^_^

Aren't you even curious about how I caught that reference?
Actually I just assumed Mr. Van Impe, known as the "walking Bible," was teaching basic doctrine when he said that the Antichrist will come from a ten nation confederacy in Europe.

Our pastor, whose forte is eschatology, teaches the same thing.

(And yes, for the record, it used to be called the European Common Market; but now we say European Union.)

I know what the first fossil evidence of life is, I do not know what the first life forms were. No one does. We don't have any evidence for any "first life forms".

So you believe that many species lived and died before modern species existed?

The ten toes of Nebuchadnezzar's dream represent a revival of the old Roman Empire.

Notice in his dream that it is Jesus (the stone) that destroys the Roman empire.

The Roman empire wasn't defeated, it split (the two legs of Nebuchadnezzar's statue) and dissolved away.

Then ten toes then are ten nations that would come out of the old Roman empire, which would correspond to the European union.

(Do you know of any other union that has roots in the old Roman empire?)

As you can see, Religion is hardly the cause of most or the worst violence in the world.

Not sure if this is true but it seems crime in the US is on the increase after some years of decline.
Violent crime rises for second consecutive year

I know here in Australia there have been increases in crime rates but it is hard to gauge. They can get common crime down but then increases in drugs, gang organized related crime can go up.

Religion has been responsible for many wars and if you look closely, though they say it is in the name of religion there are other motives involved IE the IRA bombings have to do with British occupation from many years ago. But revenge attacks are often involved and this is more to do with mans hatred than anything else.

If some say that religion is declining and therefor the crime rate is declining well that is yet to be proved. But you also have to take into consideration effects that may not be reflected in the crime rates. Things such as divorce becoming easier and underage pregnancies have an effect on family breakdowns which can cause other problems.

I personally believe that as religious values are taken away then it is replaced with more secular acceptance of things. Moral values regarded as wrong. IE religion says you should not have affairs when married and you should only be faithful to the one you are going to marry. In secular society we have now watered that down so people have more casual relations and family breakdowns happen more often. From this we get a lot of unwanted pregnancies which lead to increased abortions. We also see an increase in sexually transmitted diseases and many people hurt emotionally. If you consider that many couples from the days gone by had long term marriages and stayed together more often now it is just about the norm for a marriage and family to break down quickly. Then this creates all the associated problems. Many people who have fallen into the crime statistics have come from a broken family.

The importance is taken away and even though society tries to say it is a persons right to do as they want with their bodies it allows other problems to come in and this can take a toll on a person and the society they live in. The young are becoming more promiscuous and they are not equipped to deal with these matters. So the effects may not lead to crime but they certainly have a cost factor.

You could also add to that list the holocaust and that was 6 million plus. All those killed in the 1st world war, and the 2nd world war and Vietnam war.
