How do you explain the other miracles of the exodus, like the parting of the Red Sea, the manna from the skies, or the water from the rock? Were the people Imagining things when they heard God speak from mount Sinai or when they followed the pillar of fire by night and the cloud by day?

It is possibel they did, but why would I need to explain these claimed miracles? Why should I need to explain them at all when there exists no evidence it ever even happen but are just mentioned as written stories in the Bible or do you expect me to believe any claim I read to be truthfully and actual historical events? Do you know what is meant with "burden of proof" in cases like this?

That aside, even if it was this what people thought was happening it may have some other, perfectly natural, explanations than the action of a supernatural force. For instance mass hallucinations is a well documented phenomena with modern people. Modern, educated, people can with some tricks be followed to believe in just anything not to mention if you are illiterate then it is even easier to do so. Because we human are programmed to see pattern - even where there exists no patter we see patterns. (Just look at a sky with cumulus clouds and you may understand what I mean - this pattern seeking behavior goes for sounds as well - we easily imagine we hear voices in noise where there are no voices - the sound of a small earth quake can be made to be a god speaking if one is biased to believe it is possible that god can speak from the sky). Ignorance and illiteracy is key elements here and these factors was definitely the norm case with the majority of all bronze age people, in particular the nomadic Hebrews tribes so I would not rule out things like deception, biased conclusions or simply hallucinations due to starvation and/or exhaustion in favor of a supernatural explanation to explain the written accounts...

Besides that you questions drifting away from (read: avoiding) the issue at hand....

Me personally? I don't know, but I'll say yes just for the sake of argument. Now, the problem with your analogy is not just that you are assuming your god is not omnipotent (another contradiction) and is therefore incapable of any solution except mass murder, and nor is it that your sideways trip into moral relativism destroys any claims of moral absolutism, which in turn shoots your whole belief system in the foot, but never mind, no the problem with your analogy is that it assumes your god kills so many people (tens of millions) in the Bible for comparable reasons as you present in your analogy. But if one actually looks at the justifications given in the Bible for your god's mass murder sprees, as well as his countless random gratuitous murders, they aren't even remotely close to being comparable. In fact, time and again, they are just the unjustifiable actions of the fictional character described in the Dawkins quote.

Same hypothetical question but dress in new words....

I have already told you my answer; there exists causes, but no justifications.

But to answer your hypothetical question directly: I DO NOT KNOW!
Hypothetical, since I never been in that situation to have to make such decision, and god help me I don't have to either...

(You see AV, the world is not as black and white as you try to make it be...)
Then your point about who God kills and who God saves alive can take a hike.

If I were a mere mortal pretending to have God on my side -- yes.
That's probably why those aircraft weren't shot down then.

They were thinking like you, and couldn't find someone to pretend to have God on their side.

If flight 93 doesn't go down in Pennsylvania, it likely does get shot down.

How do you explain the miracles in the book of Mormon?

How do you explain the miracles in the Koran?

How do you explain the miracles of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe?

Because we know, if it is written in a book... it MUST be real! Especially if it make us feel special!

Diabolical plagiarism or mimicry.
How do you explain the miracles in the Koran?
Diabolical plagiarism or mimicry.
How do you explain the miracles of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe?
It's a fairy tale.
Because we know, if it is written in a book... it MUST be real!
Melodrama is not a valid response.
Especially if it make us feel special!
Neither is sarcasm.

What are the odds of any one of the prophecies in the bible being fulfilled? Certainly it is less than the one in two odds of flipping a coin. The odds therefore of over 300 prophecies in the bible being fulfilled without fail is astronomical, yet they still claim there is no more basis to accept the authority of the Bible over any other religious sacred book.

Indeed.

Jesus fulfilled 109 of 333 prophecies in His first advent; a monumental task in itself; but when He comes back, He will fulfill the other 224 prophecies ... a near impossible task.

About the same as any prophecy in the astrology pages of your local reg. Just apply a generous sprinkling of confirmation bias.

What are the odds of a retrovirus independently endogenizing in chimps and humans at the same locus?

Aren't you forgetting something? The deck was slightly stacked -- as is to be expected when the "fulfillment" of the prophecies was both performed by and written by people who had the original prophecies laid out in front of them.

Some of them all but confessed that they were using the OT as a template. "And _________ was done in accordance with the Scriptures" is a dead giveaway.

I've asked this before ... I'll ask it again.

You're the squad leader in enemy territory.

You're at the edge of a clearing, and a little boy: dirty, clothes ripped, bleeding and crying for his mother is coming toward you holding a cute teddy bear in his arms.

You order HALT! in his language, but he keeps walking toward you and won't stop.

What do you do?

(Please answer this.)
It is not clear to me what this has to do with what I wrote, but the answer to your question is of course; "it depends on..."
It depends on what?

How much more information do you want?
How much more information? Exactly that information you didn't give

  • has the enemy used booby traps and child soldiers before?
  • is teh population in that area friendly to you or not?
  • is the teddy bear a hidden bomb yes or no?
Just that information you didn't provide.
Mind, fallible humans can't answer that for sure and have to guess. But the god you worship and who is omniscient knows all the answer. So why if you want to compare soldiers to your god, that's your prerogative. But I think you would have been persecuted for blasphemy in certain times.

And why wouldn't your god give the answers to the soldiers and spare a child's life? Or even better, turn the bomb into a innocent teddy bear?

Just don't tell me there's never any justification for the killing of innocents and expect me to accept it.

Not so impossible if you're his biographer the second time around.
