Its confusing.
I need to know if semonyx is using the cells in the additives or in the testing. :sick:

I see the protein could be found from animal cells or insects...so why not just use animal cells or something?

Its gross.

So everytime Pepsi uses the additive =- they need a shipment from Semonyx and is Semonyx still using cells [harvested to make more i am sure] to continue researching?

Yeck.

But Coca Cola is just as bad - maybe worse..?
They are/were funding RU886 research and development...or did.

This is horrible and sick :(

Does anyone know, what other products does Pepsi make except the drinks?? or what types of drinks come from Pepsi, which we might not expect to? (like juices etc).

Are there other companies that do this too?

From my e-mail and it's article:
PepsiCo, Senomyx and Aborted Fetal Cells
Abortion, Children, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Family, In the News, Pro-Life, Social Justice, by Catholic Chapter House. Written by: Kathleen Dunn
When it comes to the twisted, bizarre, and far reaching ways the evil one has stretched the avenues of the anti-life movement, most of us think we’ve heard it all; however, while reading one of LifeSiteNews’ latest articles, I found myself taken by surprise. During the past year, the PepsiCo food company has signed on to collaborate with a scientific research company, Senomyx, who use aborted fetal cells for their development of artificial flavors.

Now I know what you may be thinking, because I sure did, – what do human embryos’ and food have to do with each other? Senomyx uses human embryonic kidney cells, which are a “heterogeneous mix of almost all the types of cells present in the body” (HEK293.com) from these electively aborted fetuses. The Senomyx website tells us that they isolate human taste receptors and create “proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor” (Senomyx). From what I gather from their website, (and correct me if I’m wrong), this means that they use these cells (taken from the fetuses), as taste receptors and monitor the different reactions certain artificial flavors create when tested on the cells. Of course, the companies would never tell the public the depths of how they do their research. In fact, they advertise it as a positive, light-hearted new venture, which looks to benefit customers with healthy and tasty products.

“PepsiCo’s collaboration with Senomyx will focus on the discovery, development, and commercialization of sweet enhancers and natural high-potency sweeteners with the intent to bring to the marketplace lower-calorie, great tasting PepsiCo beverages. The agreement reflects the companies’ shared commitment to offer healthier products to consumers that maintain the sweet taste they want,” reports the press release on their ‘promising’ future together (PepsiCo). PepsiCo also owns popular brands such as Quaker, Frito Lays, Tropicana, Doritos, 7Up, Lipton, Aquafina, Ruffles, Tostitos, Sun Chips, Gatorade, Aunt Jemima and Mountain Dew. It should also be noted that Kraft foods and Nestlé also unfortunately collaborate with Senomyx research. We can rejoice, though, that Campbell Soup has discontinued its affiliation with Senomyx.
If you’re like most pro-life people out there – or like any sane person – you are disgusted and appalled. This so-called ‘science’ seems to reach the absolute low of a self-centered society – one that can justify using the bodies of aborted human beings in order to have a better tasting snack, especially when there are many other methods of testing that are more easily accessed.

“We believe that our novel flavors, flavor enhancers, and bitter blockers will enable our collaborators to achieve a competitive advantage and/or improve the nutritional profile of their products while maintaining or enhancing taste,” claims Senomyx. If desecrating the bodies of aborted children is a means to discovering better tasting and healthier food, definitely count me out. Any company who is willing to go to such repulsive extremes in order to gain better profit and offer me better food, (which probably isn’t so great anyways), is not getting my money.

If you’re with me, and many other ProLife groups and individuals, write a letter to these companies, and explain to them why you are no longer buying their product. Hopefully, they will see that no one should comply with such atrocities, and will remove themselves from their relationship with Senomyx.

wow... this is a good reason to not use any processed food! I think I'll just make my own food and drinks. More healthy that way, anyway :) when I was a kid, my mom often made me this drink: just boil some water, cut up fruit like strawberries (or apples, etc) thinly and put them into the water, add sugar (optional) and cool.. and it's fully natural and just like juice, only without the artificial flavours & using aborted babies cells. :( there's also milk, water, tea, or home made smoothies. :)

All you can do is do your best. The truth is that every company is run by sinners and will do something sinful in the operation of its business. I'm not saying we should just cave, but that we can't save the world. Only Christ can do that.

More bad news. Pepsico has maintained a close partnership with Anheuser-Busch which also has a ridiculously long list of products, and these two have been the biggest advertisers for the Super Bowls.

Well now that would depend on where you get the fruit, was it grown yourself, or did the farm that grew it use any chemicals (other than water) in its production.

Grow the apples myself. Hubby grows blueberries and strawberries. (I used to have many strawberry beds myself but caring, picking, and perserving them has left me with a dislike of strawberries.) And you *don't* have to use chemicals. Mine are organically grown. I purchase what I need to keep my fruits and vegetables insect and fungus free from Gardens Alive! (www.gardensalive.com )

Do I pass "muster"? Do I have permission?

More bad news. Pepsico has maintained a close partnership with Anheuser-Busch which also has a ridiculously long list of products, and these two have been the biggest advertisers for the Super Bowls.

wow it's like they own everything....:o

there are some products that seem to be different.. for example, the company that makes cranberry juice that's sold in Costco: I think it's called Kirkland? I hope they're not owned by any company that partners with the flavouring company.

I guess it's goodbye to processed food and snacks sold in stores, lol!

Abortion has become Big Business... Lord help us. :crossrc:

"The former" is the better of the two....and while abortion is big business, drinking or eating thie junk listed in this thread doesn't make you pro-abortion. It probably will make you fat though.

it doesn't make you pro abortion but I really dislike the idea of using anything that is related to abortion, for example eating food that was developed *because* a child was aborted. I can't comment on the moral theology, that's something to ask a priest about, but - I don't like it and it seems like some sort of cooperation, even though not direct... it's just really sick that companies would do this. I think if all Christians boycotted these companies, - the flavouring company would give up using the cells. :)

It is a slippery slope. Are you morally opposed to the use of medicines or medical procedures which were tested on humans who did not give consent for same? And, as I asked, does using icons of the martyrs encourage the killing of Holy people?

Knowing that their money is promoting abortion and then paying them your dollars to add to the money they pay to promote abortions is a sin because you knowingly take part in their sin. And, the gravity of the sin is determined in large part by those hurt by your actions and in the case of abortion that gravity is likely to be large. So, I am not so easily swayed in to ignoring this and simply going about things as usual. My soul is at stake.

1) Every time I try growing anything it dies, not everyone has a green thumb :)
2) You don't need my permission :)
3) Very first thing I saw them selling on the gardensalive.com was a chemical Insect Spray :D

the Icons were made by Christians to honour the martyrs. The flavours for these products were made to make money, at the expense of the children who were killed. It's like using soap that the Nazis made using the people's bodies!

I'm also against using medicines, like vaccinations, which were developed using fetal cell lines.

It is what we know and then how we act on that knowledge.

I dug this up for all of us:
1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:

- by participating directly and voluntarily in them;

- by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;

- by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;

- by protecting evil-doers.

1869 Thus sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary to the divine goodness. "Structures of sin" are the expression and effect of personal sins. They lead their victims to do evil in their turn. In an analogous sense, they constitute a "social sin."144

Explain how this is "promoting abortion". It was one abortion that took place decades ago, and we're using a by-product of that life for science. The child was not, to my knowledge, killed for the purpose of testing junk food. Additional abortions are not being procured for this purpose.
