  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's so true, Greg.

This is why people like Faith Guardian and Lucaspa aren't ridiculed like you and I are (although, I have to admit, Hespera did have enough backbone to take Lucaspa on).

Remember what happened during Jesus' six [illegal] trials, just before He was crucified?

Luke 23:12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

My pastor is not very well liked in our ministerial association here in town, and he couldn't care less.

How can they possibly be hated? Folks like Mr P.A.Lucas Ph.D. have already graduated to a very comfortable form of biblical exegesis, but when you look at it on the large scale, it's not even isolated to these two. Today you have emergencies like "Religious Naturalism" advocating a philosophy where religious people should look at spirituality bereft of super-natural elements.

Darwinism is more or less a set-it-and-forget-it mechanism. Once you plant it, if you can plant it, you will get the uncontrollable debasement of texts, the aformentioned contradictory hazard in the form of religious naturalism, or full on materialism. So how can you hate people who not only spread it, but are already within the ranks you are trying to infiltrate. They are an invaluable asset.

Then why do you still troll around in the sciences sub-forum? You of all people should know that evidence is the cornerstone of science.
Since when do I claim creationism is science?

AV your apple challenge is a flawed comparison. If you conjured a rotten apple with 2 weeks of measurable bacteria, mold growth and decay on it. Then claimed it was created an hour ago it would be a much more accurate depiction of young earth creationism.

Is it? Why? You are, in effect, telling everyone around you that reality is saying with everything it is that Christianity is wrong. You're saying with your argumentation that it is a lie and that to believe in it you must be someone who rejects what many of us know to be true through personal experience and thorough work. It you were a carpenter and someone came up to you and said your hammer could NEVER drive a nail through a plank and that building a house is IMPOSSIBLE for ANY carpenter, in fact houses don't even exist at all - what would you think? That's pretty much exactly what you're telling us.

Even if an atheist were to want to seek Christ he might opt not to because "AV told me that Christianity is a lie, and he's a devout believer so he must be right". Do you know how often I get to hear "How can you be a Christian? You ought to know the world isn't 6000 years old? Surely you cannot be that stupid!" in some way or other? Rather often. And why do I hear that? Because these people have heard people like you insisting that Christianity is false again and again and again - in the name of Jesus to boot. And that's what you're doing. Do you want me to sugarcoat that AV? To say noooo you're not pushing people away from Christ, not at all. When I know very well indeed that that's exactly what you're doing. I was taught what you believe, I eventually rejected it and at one point almost rejected my faith. I did not reject it. Not because I set limits to "what science can mean" or "how much I accept" but because I didn't. And because of strong believers who really show the fruits of the spirit who didn't see a problem with accepting science AND believing. To me saying that's impossible is like saying you can't both wear clothes AND shoes at the same time. It seems nonsensical to me.

Have you seen the videos on youtube where people make fun of Christianity? Most of those videos mock Christianity not because we show love where others show no love. Not because we are such vibrant mirror images of Christ who stand up for what's right and good. Who fight for the weak and poor. No, they make fun of christianity because of people like you. They say that Christianity, that's a lie and it's a lie because creationism is false.

Yeah creationism is false. It makes good people like yourself forget Jesus and start attacking Darwin. They make good people such as you forget the call Christ gave us to love even our enemies and start claiming God didn't make the universe the way it is. It's just as if you were claiming we live in teletubbyland, and people notice. And the people who notice can often not help but think "Goodness, is THIS what Christianity is? Well I want no part of it. In fact, this is stupid and I had better fight it!". I have good friends who think that way. One of whom went from being an anti-theist to simply atheist because he realized after meeting me that Christianity isn't necessarily about fighting science and stopping development, it can be about love and compassion as well. In fact I've been told several times by multiple people 'you're the reason I gained some faith in Christianity's viability as an ethical platform and maybe more' and often in the same or other conversations 'seriously? Creationism isn't really christianity? Maybe christianity isn't nonsense then'

So what do you want me to do? Should I lie to you and say that you're not pushing people into damnation? That wouldn't be very good would it. More pleasant maybe. But not good.

Great post

You're still begging the question... why are you in the science sub-forum if you don't accept science?
For the same reason you're here discussing creationism.

You cannot show me the Big Bang -- only on paper.

It may disagree with Genesis 1 verbally, but then Genesis 1 disagrees with it verbally as well.

To think that God wanted His children to understand how the universe got started, then not have the Big Bang 'discovered' until the 20th century, does not make sense.

We can show you everything SINCE then.
AV, what would you say if you heard a reverberating boom, saw a big crater, smoke rising from it and debree raining down? Would you REALLY say 'there has not been an explosion!' just because you didn't SEE it?

I'm not comparing my apple to creationism -- I'm comparing it to creatio ex nihilo.

Again, if you want to, go ahead and assume it's blue, has a MADE IN JAPAN sticker on it, and squirts lemon juice.

Just answer it, please.

Nonetheless, the evidence is there. Anything proposed as an explanation for reality must explain why it is there.
Reality can take a hike.

I'm talking about the earth on Day One of the creation week, coming into existence outside of the realm of science, by a process called creatio ex nihilo.

And, as we all know, Genesis has absolutely nothing to do with reality.

thanks for clearing that up.

Yes, so you keep saying. And we keep telling you we have information about the time before your supposed day one. So how do you reconcile that? Did/does God lie?

Before Day One, God is -- that's it.

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
