Catholic Church in Uruguay warns of risks of approving euthanasia

Uruguay’s Chamber of Deputies (lower house) is scheduled to vote on a euthanasia bill, titled as “death with dignity,” on Aug. 5. Just days before legislators cast their votes, Catholic Church leaders and professionals from various fields are weighing in against the measure.

An article published by the Archdiocese of Montevideo titled “Euthanasia: A ‘Right’ That Violates Other Rights” compiles testimonies, beginning with Dutch bioethics expert and professor Theo Boer, who was one of the advocates and activists for the legalization of euthanasia two decades ago. After reviewing thousands of cases, he warned of the sustained growth in requests and, fundamentally, the reasons for each case.

Recognizing his mistake, Boer has traveled the world — and visited Uruguay — to warn about the risks of enabling “assisted suicide,” pointing out that “what began as an exception has become a common practice,” violating the rights of the most disadvantaged.

Federal Trade Commission launches inquiry into harm of ‘gender-affirming care’ for minors

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is investigating potential “unfair or deceptive trade practices” regarding transgender surgeries and drugs.

The launch of the federal inquiry is designed to “gauge the harms consumers may be experiencing” from “false or unsupported claims” about transgender treatment, according to a press release. The inquiry focuses on affected minors but is also open to adults who have been affected.

The agency’s investigation comes after President Donald Trump pledged to end federal support for transition drugs and surgeries in an executive order he issued at the outset of his administration this year.

The Federal Trade Commission, a federal agency that promotes marketplace competition and consumer education, will investigate whether practitioners have violated a long-standing law against deception in the marketplace.

‘The Bad Guys 2’ star Danielle Brooks on serving God in Hollywood: ‘If I didn’t have faith, I would’ve quit a long time ago’

Danielle Brooks has played many roles throughout her celebrated career, from Sofia in "The Color Purple" on Broadway to gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in a stirring biopic.

But the 35-year-old actress’ guiding force, both personally and professionally, is her Christian faith, and she’s not afraid to say so.

“I think it all has to start from there,” Brooks told The Christian Post. “You have to trust that God is bringing you to a project for a reason. Or sometimes, He’s saying no.”

An abuse survivor who was sexually assaulted by hundreds of Pakistani men from the age of 14 onwards recounted how British authorities blamed her for her own exploitation instead of arresting and prosecuting those who raped her.

The grooming gang survivor identified as "Jade" detailed her experiences alongside former detective constable-turned-whistleblower and advocate, Maggie Oliver, during a Sunday episode of the "Triggernometry" podcast hosted by Konstantin Kisin and Francis Foster.

Oliver had resigned from the Greater Manchester Police in late 2012, citing the department’s mishandling of the Rochdale child sex abuse ring and prejudice toward victims like Jade.

How the Covid vaccine works & doesn't work and why your often getting sick.

Quote - This football analogy from Del Bigtrees interview of Geert Vanden Bossche made me understand the HOW and WHY humanity is in such grave danger from the global mass vaccination campaign. This explains the very basics of how non-specific and specific antibodies are completely different and should be at the very centre of any and all covid vaccine discussions.

If I remember correct it was the brilliant Dr. Ryan Cole from Idaho who stated that the over all immunity to all viruses after somebody took the Covid 19 vaccine was decreased by about twenty percent and certain types of cancers in Idaho or Iowa, [I forget] were up by about two thousand percent.

Christian Political Satire?

Some people might accuse me of engaging in "Christian Political Satire?"

I am not certain exactly how this forum works but can I write up a rather funny idea of how Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may perhaps have been mentored by a high ranking official in CSIS, [which is rather like the CIA or NSA in the USA], and P. M. Justin Trudeau was given a script that led to the Democratic Party in the USA becoming unelectable in 2024 because of what P. M. Justin Trudeau had done up here in Canada since 2015? Yes, I am postulating a high ranking TRUMP SUPPORTING official in CSIS who may well have had fifty or more IQ points than poor P. M. Justin Trudeau was working with so..... P. M. Justin Trudeau may have had no idea that he was politically destroying both Biden and Kamala and even the USA Democratic Party?!

Actually I have already written this up and I could even copy and paste it here.

Are many of Joe Biden's troubles P. M. Justin Trudeau's fault?

What I mean by this is.....
did the young and somewhat idealistic and perhaps naive P. M. Justin Trudeau move too quickly...... with too much enthusiasm.... and did he push hundreds of Democrats into voting for President Trump?

This video went viral all over both the USA and Canada.....
and may have played a role in the massive turnout of Trump voters.... that shocked
the leadership of the USA Democratic Party.... who really probably did feel that Joe Biden could win this without even campaigning???

"Canada tells us of Covid21 -the plan now what is coming"

Should I give you the Rumble link to this video? It is no longer on youtube.

Was told

Not everything that claims to be Christian is Christian. Just b/c the song is labeled a Christian song, it doesn't mean it's a Christian song.

Listen to the lyrics.

Some Christian artists have good lyrics & it sounds Christian
Some Christian artists have good lyrics but the song doesn't really sound Christian
Some Christian artists have bad lyrics & the song doesn't sound Christian

Pay more attention to the words then who the singer is. The singer is just a mouthpiece

Somewhere Out There

Somewhere out there lives now are falling apart.
For the truth is, many from God now depart.
Make their own truth, fitting how they want to live,
For the truth is, their lives to God will not give.

Full surrender to God to now do His will
All forsaken so they can now live a thrill.
Fleshy pleasures subvert God’s will for their lives.
Hidden treasures now covered up with their lies.

All on purpose, wandering souls to live on,
Do what they want, while God’s word now they step on.
Truth that matters they will now toss far away,
And truth tellers they will now surely betray.

But the truth is Jesus was our sacrifice.
On that cross then He died to give us new life.
Die to sin and walk now in all of His ways,
Follow Him now all throughout all of your days.

Life in Him now, surrender to all His will,
Serve Him only, your being He will now fill.
Life in service, doing what God has designed
For our lives, we all need His purpose to find.

Revelation Disproves Rapture

this is a copy and paste to good not to share

he Tribulation Isn’t What You Think — and Jesus Never Taught a Rapture Escape Plan

Scripture mostly talks about “tribulation” (thlipsis) as something believers experience. But Jesus does describe a final period of unparalleled distress — and He tells us exactly how it ends.

The problem? Modern churches have been fed Scofield’s fan fiction, not Christ’s words.

So let’s walk through what the Bible actually says.

1. Tribulation is for believers — not just “the left behind.”

“In the world you will have tribulation (θλῖψιν) — but take heart, I have overcome the world.”

— John 16:33

“We must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
— Acts 14:22

Tribulation isn't some Jewish horror flick after the Church "vanishes" — it's the furnace believers have always gone through. It’s been happening since Acts — and it will culminate right before Christ returns.

2. Jesus does mention a great tribulation — but the righteous are still there.

“Then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world... and except those days be shortened, no flesh would be saved.”
— Matthew 24:21–22

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days… He shall send His angels… and gather His elect.” — Matthew 24:29–31

So when does Jesus gather His people? AFTER the tribulation — not before.
No secret escape. No early flight. No Kirk Cameron 'Left Behind' Hollywood nonsense.
Left behind” isn’t a threat — it’s a promise. Just ask Noah.

3. “But what about being taken like in Noah’s day?”

People say this like it’s the reward — but Jesus says it’s the judgment.

“As it was in the days of Noah… they were eating and drinking… until the flood came and took them all away.
So shall it be when the Son of Man returns.”
— Matthew 24:37–39
(Also Luke 17:26–30)

Look again — who gets taken in Noah’s day?
Not Noah. Not the righteous.
It’s the wicked who are swept away in judgment.

And Jesus says it’ll be just like that again.

The ones “taken” are the ones judged.
The ones “left” are the ones preserved.
Left behind? That’s the blessing. Just like Noah, just like Lot.

That means modern Rapture theology has Christians begging to be swept away in judgment — while calling it their “blessed hope.” That’s not faith. That’s deception — straight from the Pit. They’re under a veil… and cheering for their own destruction as the architects of this deception laugh from the shadows of Hell — watching the Church pray for its own judgment, and call it salvation.

4. Revelation confirms: the saints go through it.

“I saw the souls of those who were beheaded for their witness to Jesus… and they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”
— Revelation 20:4

Who are these saints?
Not “tribulation extras.”
They’re the faithful Church — those who endure.
There is ONE resurrection. (John 5:28–29, Daniel 12:2)

5. Daniel backs it up:

“There shall be a time of trouble such as never was… but at that time your people shall be delivered — everyone written in the Book.”

— Daniel 12:1–2

“Many shall be purified and made white and tried.”
— Daniel 12:10

Not beamed uppurified, tried, delivered.
Through fire, not around it.

6. There’s no escape hatch. But there is endurance — and glory.

“Here is the endurance of the saints… those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.”

— Revelation 14:12

But he who endures to the end will be saved.” — Matthew 24:13

The Satanic Lie: “The Tribulation” is a Jewish-only horror story.
This was invented by John Nelson Darby in the 1800s and stapled into your Bible by Scofield.
They taught the Church is removed before things get rough, and the Jews get one more shot during a special 7-year tribulation.

There’s only one problem:
That’s not what Jesus taught.

Final Truth:

There is a final period of tribulation — a real, global time of distress before Christ returns. But Jesus was clear:

The righteous aren’t removed beforehand — they’re refined.

The wicked are “taken,” not the saints.

The elect are gathered after the tribulation.

There is one resurrection — at Christ’s visible return.

And every believer who endures will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father (Matthew 13:43).

Summary:

"The tribulation" is real — not just future, but already unfolding. It intensifies before Christ returns. But believers go through it — not around it.

The “rapture” happens after the tribulation (Matt 24:29–31).

The ones “taken” in Noah’s day were the wicked — not the saved.
Jesus says it will be the same way again when He returns.

The ones ‘taken’ are the damned. The Rapture, as the misled modern churches teach it, is actually a death sentence disguised as deliverance.

The righteous are left — sealed, rescued, preserved, just like Noah.

So when modern Christians start begging to be “taken”…
they’re literally praying to be swept away in judgment.
That’s not the blessed hope.
That’s spiritual suicide — with Scofield footnotes.

Scofield’s fantasy isn’t in the Bible.

Endure like Noah. Obey like Lot. Shine like the saints.

No one is raptured before it.
The righteous are gathered after (Matt 24:29–31).

Saints will suffer, resist the Beast, and be resurrected to reign with Christ. (Rev 20:4)

The whole “pre-trib rapture” thing? Invented in the 1800s. Not Bible. Not Jesus. Not apostolic.

If anyone tells you we’ll be “raptured out” before things get hard, just ask:
“Where’s the verse that says that?”
(Spoiler: there isn’t one.)

The Cross wasn’t an escape plan — it was a war path.
Jesus doesn’t rapture cowards.
He refines warriors.

Not one apostle taught a pre-tribulation rapture.
Not one early Church father believed Christians would disappear before the time of trial.

There is zero historical record of any secret escape doctrine in the first 1800 years of Christianity.

Paul didn’t teach it.
Peter didn’t teach it.
John — the one who saw Revelation — didn’t teach it.

Irenaeus didn’t preach it.
Polycarp didn’t preach it.
Ignatius didn’t preach it.

Jesus didn’t teach it.

So where did it come from?

John Nelson Darby, 1830s.
Scofield Bible, 1909.
Then Hollywood — and Satan’s global elite minions — ran with it.
They sold Christians a false escape hatch — and called it “the Blessed Hope.”

The real Church never believed in a “left behind” evacuation plan.
That idea didn’t come from the Bible.

So ask yourself:
If the apostles didn’t preach it…
If the early Church never taught it…
If Jesus never mentioned it…

Then who did?

Because deception this deep doesn’t come from ignorance — it comes from below.

It’s so twisted, so dark, so psychotic,
it could only come from the pit itself.

Like an evil man sweetly coaxing a group of children
to dance into a barn full of starving lions —
and calling it “blessed hope".

What they’ve done to the Church since 1909 is so twisted,
so diabolical,
it couldn’t have come from man.

This deception bears the fingerprints of the Dragon himself.
Only the enemy of Christ could orchestrate something so brilliant,
so blasphemous —
and sell it as hope.
And only one person spoke about taking the Body. of Christ to heaven to Govern the Universe and Govern Angel

and Govern ANGELS in 1 Cor. 6:23.

And Paul is the only one The writes about the Body of. Christ taken up to heaven in 1 Thess 4:13-17 and in 2 Thess 2:1

where the word COMING. /. PAROUSIA. Is our gathering together unto Him

and verse 2 and. 3 is the. Day of the Lord and the DEPATURE /. APOSTASIA and keep reading verses 4-7. !!

Woman shares sister’s powerful conversion before murder: ‘She couldn’t stop talking about God’

A homeschooling mother of three shared the heartbreaking yet redemptive story of her sister, Tara, whose life ended in tragedy just 10 days before her 20th birthday — but not before a radical and unmistakable conversion to Christ.

“Tara’s story needed to be told,” Cherished author Camille Rebimbas said on a recent episode of pro-life activist Abby Johnson’s podcast "Politely Rude." “I really feel like God wrote her story, every part of it.”

Tara, who had struggled with mental illness, rejection, self-harm and even satanism in her teen years, experienced a profound spiritual awakening just months before she was murdered by a man she met in a mental health facility.

Wildlife officials move to feed Florida’s starving manatees

A federal judge rejected a state attempt to end a lawsuit involving manatee deaths in the Indian River Lagoon last week.

The lawsuit involves wastewater discharges there, alleging it has led to seagrass dying, and manatees dying from starvation.

The judge said a trial is needed to determine whether the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has violated the Endangered Species Act.

Experts said that it’s important to consider if there is a continuing ongoing violation of federal law.

Florida agency asks court to overturn judge's decisions on protecting manatees in northern Indian River Lagoon

Describing the case as having "exceptional importance," the Florida Department of Environmental Protection this week argued a federal appeals court should overturn decisions that required the agency to take a series of steps to protect manatees in the northern Indian River Lagoon.

[What's the name of your department again?]

Mendoza in April ruled the department violated the Endangered Species Act and followed in May with the order that included a moratorium on new septic tanks in the area and other measures, such as requiring the establishment of biomedical-assessment and supplemental-feeding programs for manatees in the area. Septic tanks discharge nitrogen that can cause harmful algae blooms in waterways.

Trump's Warrior Board

Hegseth (in the service of his boss) is purging the Senior ranks of the military.

In the spring, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth decided not to promote a senior Army officer who had led troops over five tours in Afghanistan and Iraq because Mr. Hegseth suspected, without evidence, that the officer had leaked sensitive information to the news media, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.

When Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II was cleared of the allegations, Mr. Hegseth briefly agreed to promote him, only to change course again early this month, the officials said. This time, Mr. Hegseth maintained that the senior officer was too close to Gen. Mark Milley, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff whom President Trump has accused of disloyalty.

Mr. Hegseth’s sudden reversal prompted a rare intervention from Gen. Dan Caine, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He urged Mr. Hegseth to reconsider, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

Well, we wouldn’t want the military to become politicized, would we?
So, only those loyal to the President should oughta get the good jobs!

Behold, the Lamb of God!

”The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’” “Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, ‘What do you seek?’ They said to Him, ‘Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come, and you will see.’” (John 1:29,35-39 NASB1995)

Under the Old Covenant God had with his people Israel (Jews only), lambs were sacrificed for the atonement (payment) for sins. And this was something that had to be repeated over and over again. But when Jesus Christ, God the Son, gave his life up for us on that cross, he was the final and the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world. For in his death he became sin for us so that when he died, our sins died with him, so that by faith in him we will now die to sin and live for God and obey him.

And John the Baptist had this revealed to him by God the Father that Jesus Christ was that sacrificial lamb of God sent by God to take away the sin of the world, i.e. to deliver the people of this world out of their slavery to sin so that, by faith in him, they will now die to sin and walk in obedience to the Lord in daily practice, in God’s power. And John the Baptist was called of God to prepare the hearts of the people for the coming of Jesus, so that by faith in him, they would forsake their sins and now walk in the ways of the Lord.

And because John the Baptist believed God, and he was faithful to the call of God on his life to be “a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said,” people began to follow Jesus, not many at first, but some, some of whom became his close disciples who then ministered along with him for about three years, the time of his ministry on the earth prior to his death, resurrection, and ascension back to heaven to be with God the Father, whereby he sent us his Spirit.

And I just love the progression of this here. One of the first to follow Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. And he said to his brother Simon, “We have found the Messiah” (the Christ). And Andrew brought Simon to Jesus, and Jesus named him Peter. The next day Jesus found Philip, and he called him to follow him, and Philip did. Then Philip found Nathanael, and he told him about Jesus, and he invited him to come and see the Lord. And on and on it went, and people believed in Jesus Christ as their Lord (vv. 39-51).

And as I was thinking about all of this, what came to mind is how we don’t really know how what we do might impact one person who then impacts others for Christ who then impacts others for Christ. We may reach one person who comes to Christ, who then is on fire for the Lord, who then shares his or her (their) faith with someone else who then may share their faith, and so on and so forth. Especially if our ministry is on the internet, we may have no knowledge of how God is using us, but he is, if we are of him.

So, the encouragement here is to be faithful to the call of God to be sharing the truth of the gospel with the people of the world, and then to trust God with the results. And the truth we should be sharing is what Jesus taught and what his New Testament apostles taught, in their full and correct biblical context. For so many people today are teaching a diluted and altered “gospel” that makes no requirements for death to sin and walks of obedience to our Lord as part of faith which saves. So, please know the truth.

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Ellen White: Meat eating weakens moral powers

Over two years ago there was a thread looking at statements by Ellen White regarding the Israelite diet. This thread is a more focused part 2, looking at one aspect--the claim that meat eating weaken's moral powers.

Here are the statements:

The Signs of the Times, January 6, 1876, Art. A

God did not withhold meat from the Hebrews in the wilderness simply to show his authority, but for their good, that they might preserve physical and moral strength. He knew that the use of animal food strengthens the animal passions and enfeebles the intellect. He knew that the gratification of the appetite of the Hebrews for flesh-meats, would weaken their moral powers, and induce such an irritable disposition that the vast army would become insubordinate, that they would lose the high sense of their moral obligations, and refuse to be controlled by the wise laws of Jehovah. Violence and rebellion would exist among them, making it impossible for them to be a pure and happy people in the land of Canaan. God knew what was best for the children of Israel, therefore he deprived them in a great measure of flesh-meats. Satan tempted them to consider this unjust and cruel. He caused them to lust after forbidden things, because he saw that through the indulgence of perverted appetite they would become carnally-minded and could be easily brought to do his will; the lower organs would be strengthened, while the intellectual and moral powers would be weakened.

Councils for the Church, 228

Upon their settlement in Canaan, the Israelites were permitted the use of animal food, but under careful restrictions which tended to lessen the evil results. The use of swine's flesh was prohibited, as also of other animals and of birds and fish whose flesh was pronounced unclean. Of the meats permitted, the eating of the fat and the blood was strictly forbidden. Only such animals could be used for food as were in good condition. No creature that was torn, that had died of itself, or from which the blood had not been carefully drained, could be used as food. By departing from the plan divinely appointed for their diet, the Israelites suffered great loss. They desired a flesh diet, and they reaped its results. They did not reach God's ideal of character or fulfill His purpose. -CCH 228

As can be seen from the above, Ellen White indicated that eating meat reduced moral power among the Israelites. She indicated they departed from the plan appointed for their diet, and suffered loss, not reaching God's ideal of character or fulfilling His purpose.

However, these claims do not match up with Scripture

God indicated the Israelites may eat meat, according to the blessing of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 12:15 “However, you may slaughter and eat meat within all your gates, whatever your heart desires, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, of the gazelle and the deer alike.

God said that if they were faithful He would bless the Israelites with grass so that the Israelites might eat the livestock and be filled.

Deuteronomy 11:15 And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.’

God required the Israelites to eat meat in the Passover.

Exodus 12:8 8 Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. (NKJV)

God gave regular portions of the sacrifices to the priests.

Leviticus 7:31 And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron’s and his sons’. 32 Also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. 33 He among the sons of Aaron, who offers the blood of the peace offering and the fat, shall have the right thigh for his part. 34 For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering I have taken from the children of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons from the children of Israel by a statute forever.’ ”

God outlined the peace offering which involved eating meat from the animal.

Leviticus 19:5 ‘And if you offer a sacrifice of a peace offering to the Lord, you shall offer it of your own free will. 6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, and on the next day. And if any remains until the third day, it shall be burned in the fire.

God provided Elijah meat.

1Ki 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

Jesus provided fish to His disciples, and to the multitudes.

Joh 21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

Jesus ate the Passover, and had His disciples arrange for it, and eat it with Him.

Luke 22:14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer

Jesus fed the multitude with fish.

Matthew 15:35 So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. 37 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left.

Jesus called a fish a good gift, which it would not be if it weakened moral powers.

Luk 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

It is unbiblical to claim that Jesus would give food to people that weakened their moral powers, and had "evil results."
Wow!!!!

I did read some of Ms. Ellen White's books thirty or forty years ago and basically I was impressed.

At that time I could not leave the WWCG and join the SDA but I do thank you for these very interesting quotations from her.

How people choose a church

The Pew Research Centre conducted a poll a few years ago asking people why they chose the church they did, after for example moving to a different area. The most common reasons were the quality of the sermon, the welcome they got, how much they liked the style of worship, and the location of the church. Well behind these was the specific teachings of the church.
So what I’d like to hear people’s views about is whether “doctrinal purity” is, or even ought to be, a consideration in people’s choice of a church. If it’s not, doesn’t that make the religious wars of past centuries quite pointless, and no church should claim to be “the one true church” or whatever?
I’d like to start of my POV with the fact that I used to belong to an unorthodox Christian church for most of my life till I came to CF 21 years ago. After a year of being here, and with the help of drstevej, who became a good friend, and God, I was able to see through the false teachings and became a Bible-believing Christian. And shortly after that went on staff here for 8 years, being assigned as manager of the Theology section of the board (yep, they chose the newest Christian on staff to head the Theology team), but that forced me to quickly learn many “…ologies” as well as heresies, etc. (All of this does factor in.)

When I started looking for a church, drstevej advised me to find one that focused on teaching, and that led me to one of the largest churches in my area. The pastor grew his church of 30-40 into a church of about 1500. Between working at CF and attending this church, I learned a huge amount! But the elders wanted to take the church in a different direction, they wanted to become a seekers church, so they bid adieu to the pastor and hired someone more interested in their new direction. I left at that time (I had been there about 11 years at that point). I briefly went to an independent Baptist church that kind of absorbed the people who left around the same time I did, but then I moved far enough away that I couldn’t attend on a regular basis.

I looked around my new neighborhood to see what churches were there, and thought about what I wanted out of a church, and selected another independent Baptist church and made an appointment to talk with the pastor about who I was, what my background was and what I wanted out of a church, and decided that I would attend there. I believe that if you have specific beliefs, they should blend with the church’s beliefs or you might get frustrated with what you might believe to be less than Biblical teachings being taught. It is a church I can be active in, compared to the mega church where I just went and sat in the back and left immediately and nobody knew me. I needed that for a while, but now I need to participate in an active way.

ABCs of 5 letter words (10)

Curiously, heaven has six letters. Given the negative association of the number six in the Bible, it is interesting that the English word for heaven has six letters (hell, of course, has four letters which is equally negative, but not in a biblical sense, but in relation to the Chinese culture where it is the most unlucky number because the word for four in Chinese sounds the same as the word for death).

So, in order to fit the parameters of this thread, which requires five letter words, we can convert heaven to -
