Video: Protesters throw rocks at CHP officers from LA freeway bridge

President Trump ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles to protect federal agents and assist local authorities, a move that local leaders have criticized as inflaming the situation. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has called their deployment a “serious breach of state sovereignty” and a “complete overreaction.”

There have been several other documented incidents of this happening as well

For anyone who's followed any of the other "on the ground" video captured by both reporters and regular citizens, the chaos seems to be a little more intense than some media outlets are reporting it to be. In the age of the smart phone and with how many independent citizens have recorded video of what's going on, the "mostly peaceful" angle is going to be a tougher sell on this one.

Gavin suggesting that sending in the national guard is "an overreaction" comes across with a little bit of this vibe

And there is a bit of irony in some suggesting that sending in the national guard is what's "inflaming" the situation and not the...well... people literally setting flames to things.

It seems as if some democratic pundits want to discuss this the same way as an enabler for an abusive husband. Where the rioters aren't the ones at fault, but rather, it's the fact that they didn't get their way politically, so its the fault of others for doing something that made them really mad.

"It's my fault he punched me, if I would've had dinner ready on time, he wouldn't have gotten so mad"

On Democracy, "Identity", and What America Should Be

(This is NOT a political thread...)

I see a fractured view of "identity" in America today.

(I assert) Much of the views of personal "identity" is idolatry, or wishing
(yearning for something we do not have, which collapses down easily into
sinful yearnings), or a punching bag for racial emotions, or an appeal to
all sorts of blame groups that (supposedly) are causing me to fail to gain
some goal.
********** **********

IDENTITY for a Christian, is supposed to be tied up with peoplehood.
Our identity was fixed, when we left Egypt in the Exodus, and now
WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IDENTIFYING WITH THE PEOPLE OF GOD.

And, so what happens when Christians are fuzzy about their "identity",
and accept a secular definition of identity???

What happens when Christians accept templates of "identity" and try to force America,
and the fair rule of law in America, into a template of "identity" that the foundational
document were never framed to make it? Such as a racial and cultural homogeny?

I see identity problems on both sides of the current Los Angeles rioting.

Christians should not view American as a land of plenty, but where

"Irish need not apply."

The people of God have an identity that is not racial.
Anyone who followed Moses, is in the People of God.

Nor is America a land of opportunity for criminals (of ANY type, even billionaires),
where one can legitimately build one's "identity" as Al Capone did in Chicago.
********** **********

The People of God already have an identity. And it is supposed to be growing into
an entity that brings forth righteous deeds. There are very visual artifacts of
worldly identity on display, in the demonstrating over the ICE raids in Los Angeles.
BUT, I don't think that these worldly concepts of identity are the identity of the
People of God, and I don't think that the People of God ought to be getting
entangled in worldly concepts of identity, to the mangling of the Faith.

I certainly don't think that worldly politicians ought to be dictating what the
definition of Christian identity is.

Does the Logos suffer?

Is there any offcial, or traditional understanding of what it means to say that the single divine-human person suffers?

With a human it's fairly easy. If my foot is injured, I'm injured as a person. But I have a unified consciousness, which would experience anything happenng to any part of me.

It's not so clear that this is true of the God-man. While consciousness in the modern sense probably isn't covered by theology, it seems likely that the human nature has a human consciousness. That would suffer when Christ suffers as a human. But Aquinas seems to say that the Logos can't suffer: "n the contrary, Athanasius says (Ep. ad Epict.): "The Word is impassible whose Nature is Divine." But what is impassible cannot suffer. Consequently, Christ's Passion did not concern His Godhead." It's not obvious that there is anything independent of those two natures that could support a whole-person experience. Now obviously theologians would assert that as a single person, the person of the God-man suffers when Jesus suffers. But I'm trying to get a sense of what that actually means.

The Double Tragedy of A Girl Whose Parents Claim Should Not Have Been Born

In a legal settlement, a Connecticut couple has been awarded $2 million because their daughter was born with Cystic Fibrosis. The court assessed the penalty against the doctor who neglected to run a relatively simple blood test almost four years before the child’s birth. At first blush, this looks like a simple malpractice suit, but its moral implications are mind-boggling.

The desire to have healthy children is universal. In Genesis 9:1, God told Noah and his sons to “Increase and multiply, and fill the earth.” The only way to fulfill that command is to give birth to healthy children, who can then produce healthy children of their own.

With medical discoveries occurring rapidly, it is normal for parents to request all available information about the pre-born child. This concern is especially present when specific diseases are known to run in families when the parents are older than usual, when complications arise within a pregnancy, or for a thousand other reasons.

An Unfulfilled Request

Luke 12:51-53

Luke 12:51-53
Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
https://www.bible.com/bible/100/LUK.12.51-53.NASB1995

I was think about this verse and how it is playing out today. I would love it that all my family will be saved. My son has come to Christ but my daughter is caught up in the world though a beautiful young women and is a good potential wife and mother as she is engaged. I try to set the example in Christ but they know me better than anyone lol.

But I find with family and friends that the more you try to be like Christ it seems the more this divides people. The more those who are not in CHrist will react or see you as different and even can provoke a reaction as though a threat or trying to be too good. As though you are trying to show them up.

I think this has been a developing cultural shift in recent years as social norms have predominated which creates a stark contrast between Christianity and secular norms. I know this is happening on social media which basically you could say is a big family in a sense. But people can be vicious even towards friends and acquaintances.

It use to be I think when the social norms were more in tune with God and the bible and even during the cultural revolutions primarily western nations God fearing. Or at least respectful of the majority who believed in God. But as time has gone by and God has been removed from the public square and social norms its less tolerated.

Families are dividing along political and belief lines. Friend and family are being cancelled due to their beliefs. Its become more personal. But I really think its spiritual. Its a fundemental spiritual battle. As the world sinks more into anti God and Christ its getting conflicted about Christ as the truth. Because Christs truth cuts deepest when the lies grow. Christ light shines brightest when the darkness grows.

So I think we are moving into a time when we will see both bold Christians who will stand with Christ even if that means losing friend and family while at the same time see a rising up of hate for Christ as His truth is magnified in the world.

I think this is a natural development as to how things have been going and I can se the trend continuing and becoming more conflicting. I guess all Christians can do is keep doing the same and don't give up or in even when the going gets tough. Thats when Christ works the best.

How to go to Heaven and be saved

How can I improve my saving message?

Short version

To go to Heaven and be saved(eternal life), believe on the Lord Jesus Christ(who is God and our Savior) for eternal life. This means to be saved, believe and trust in Jesus alone that he saved you. In addition, you should believe and trust that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again for our justification of our sins.

Long version

To go to Heaven and be saved(eternal life), believe on the Lord Jesus Christ(who is God and our Savior) for his guaranteed promise of eternal life. This means to be saved, believe, trust and have faith in Jesus alone that he saved you. In addition, you should believe, trust and have faith in the gospel that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day. The shed blood of Jesus washes clean and justifies all our sins. The gospel is according to the scriptures for our justification of our sins.

Trust is assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. More specifically we will use the following that trust means firm belief in the truth of something or someone, in this case that Jesus alone saved you. Trust means to rely on and a bold, sure and confident security. Also to have faith. Trust is belief without complete proof, trust is belief that you can rely on someone or something. To rely on the truthfulness or accuracy of: believe. One in which confidence is placed. To place confidence in : rely on. To hope or expect confidently. Trust is a belief in the reliability or trustworthiness of something or someone.

Rely on means to need for help; depend on(to be determined or decided by). To believe or trust something or someone. To expect with confidence or be certain that something will happen or exist.

Confident/confidence means to have strong belief and strong certainty in. Confidence also means to have the belief that one can rely on someone or something and that one will act in a right, proper or effective manner.

Faith means to have belief in something or someone without complete proof or the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.

Assured: Characterized by certainty or security. GUARANTEED. Very confident: self assured. Sure that something is certain or true. A being certain in the mind. Confidence of mind or manner : easy freedom from self-doubt or uncertainty.

Reliance, in its simplest form, means depending on or trusting in something or someone.

"Depend on" means to be reliant on something or someone, either for support, guidance, or to be affected by it. It can also imply trust and confidence in someone or something. To be determined or decided by something else.

Placing faith in him, often understood within a religious context, signifies relying on and trusting in a divine figure or a higher power. This trust involves believing in their promises.

Repentance is done when you believe that Jesus is your Savior.

Thank you.

How to reach remote tribes with no written language with the Gospel?

Recently, I have become intrigued by the South Sentinel Island problem. Their island is an unreached pocket of individuals that have an unknown language that isn't written down, and those people kill everyone unfortunate enough to wash up there, including a Christian missionary.

In their case, perhaps we should just take their actions as rejecting the Gospel and move on, especially since the Indian government has barred people from going to the island.

But that riddle has left me intrigued: how do missionaries turn merely spoken language into written equivalents? How do they acquire previously unknown languages?

CNN’s Harry Enten Says Trump’s Approval Rating On Immigration Has Surged ‘Like A Rocket’

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said on Monday that President Donald Trump’s approval rating on the issue of immigration has skyrocketed among the American electorate.

Trump’s current net approval rating is above water at +1 point, which surged by 20 points since June 2017, Enten said, citing his own aggregate data. Trump on Saturday deployed the National Guard to combat riots that erupted across Los Angeles stemming from ICE arrests of illegal immigrants.

Trump’s net approval rating] has gone up like a rocket,” Enten said. “Compare now versus eight years ago during Trump’s first term. Look at this, in his first term, Trump was way, way, way underwater at -21 points. But look at this, he’s up [by] over 20 points now in the aggregate, he is in positive territory at +1 point on his net approval rating. Some other polls even have it a little higher than that.”

“There is no issue on which Trump is doing so much better than he was in his first term more than the issue of immigration,” Enten continued.

A majority of Americans, 54% and 51%, approve of Trump’s mass deportations and of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents searching their communities to locate illegal immigrants, a CBS News pollreleased on Monday found. Enten added that a majority of Americans who are “directly connected” to the events going on in Los Angeles, California, approve of Trump’s actions to combat illegal immigration.

Even in the light of the crazy stuff going in California Trump’s approval rating with regards to immigration is higher. What say you?

Keep the discussions civil please.

Ughh not again...

So i just went to church for my birthday yesterday since it falls on a Sunday this year and I learned some REALLY hard news from our Elder Larry. One of our co elders is currently in the hospital fighting for his life. I don't know the full details because im not in church every Sunday because my wifes busy with work and church is so far but apparently from what ive caught from emails and what Larry has said yesterday is they've got him on a ventilator and there is blood in his lungs and his chances of making it are around 10%.

This is a co elder that I personally am very close to and knows me by name. Im not as close to him as I am to Larry but he leads the prayer of praise at our church and has preached a few times when Larry was on vacation and I definitely missed his absence at church yesterday. I had no idea he was in the ICU fighting for his life and honestly this news is both deeply affecting me and both deeply bringing me joy at the same time. Joy because he is about to be with Christ and be no longer suffering and in pain and it's bringing me suffering because he is at deaths door like I was 2 years ago but hes much, much closer to death than I was. I just... cant....

Thoughts and opinions on copyright law?

I will preface by saying that I acknowledge the Bible makes it very clear when it comes to all forms of theft, including piracy- that theft is of course a sin.

Thou shalt not steal. - Exodus 20:15 KJV

However recently I have wondered how Exodus 20:15 would apply to the digital age and to intellectual property. Obviously, the Bible was written well before the concept of computers and digital media, so whilst the Bible still makes it clear that theft is not permissible for Christians, how would the Bible have handled the idea of intellectual property?

1. Digital Files are Infinitely Renewable - Unlike physical assets that are finite, computer files are able to be replicated (almost) infinitely. This aspect alone makes it much more difficult to track than, let's say, a physical TV that was stolen. In fact, with copying files, the original file remains in tact! How should Christians respond to this fact about digital property?
2. Intellectual Property Laws are Much More Vague - Again, the digital and conceptual aspect of intellectual property inherently makes it difficult to monitor and police. Many people unknowingly violate intellectual property laws when doing things such as posting on social media due to this. How would we be able to discern what counts as intellectual property theft? Would someone unknowingly recording a song they heard for their own personal use be considered theft, even if he or she didn't know about the copyright laws?
3. The Current Copyright Laws are Made to Protect Large Businesses in Expense of Ordinary Citizens - This point is a bit of a rant, and the Bible does say to Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar's, and unto God the things which be God's. - Luke 20:25 KJV However, my point still stands, that many of the copyright laws only protect large business. In fact, most modern music produced are legally owned by music labels instead of the artists that actually created the songs, to give an example. Again, we are called to obey the law so long as it isn't causing us to sin, hence why I mentionoed Luke 20:25, but this fact is still bothersome.
4. Should Bible Translations be Copyrighted? - While most Bible translations allow people and churches to quote Bible verses, the vast majority of translations are copyrighted by various organizations. Obviously, the Bible was ultimately written, and therefore owned, by Jesus Christ. So knowing this, should we as humans be permitted to copyright translations of the Bible we translate?

I am writing this NOT to advocate for against a certain stance on the intellectual property debate, I am merely asking questions about it, and trying to get to know how we as Christians should respond and react to the copyright laws.

Nostalgia

I have a question that is not a matter of theology or liturgy but more of a cultural question for a specific subset of cradle Orthodox Christians. Why do some Orthodox Christians have nostalgia for the communist days of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union? It is akin to Armenians being nostalgic for being under the Ottoman yoke. I know it's not everyone but I do know there are a few people who are devout Christians but you have the nostalgia

Would you eat meat sacrificed in other religious traditions? My neighbors are a kindly Muslim couple who regularly bring us food from their country and religious traditions, including those that call for sharing with neighbors and friends as part of their religious observance.

Today's gift is lamb sacrificed yesterday in observance of Eid al-Adha, which according to MS Copilot, "...will be observed from June 6 to June 9 in the United States and Saudi Arabia. This holiday, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command. It is marked by prayers, feasts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with the meat shared among family, friends, and those in need."

I accepted today's gift of lamb, then thought, "I wonder what the folks at CF would have to say about this?"

Beware of False Teachers

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-20 NASB1995)

And this doesn’t apply only to false prophets and teachers and evangelists. But this applies to anyone who professes faith in Jesus Christ but who is false to the truth. This applies to anyone who gives lip service to the Lord but by their actions they deny him. They live for self and for self-pleasure and not for God according to his will and purpose for our lives. They chart their own life course instead of following the life course that God laid out for all of us to follow who profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior.

And this is not a claim to sinless perfection on the part of all who are following the Lord in his ways, according to his truth and righteousness. But it does teach us that to follow Jesus Christ, in truth, requires that we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and that we walk (in conduct, in practice) according to the Spirit and in walks of surrender to God in obedience to his commands. For if sin is what we practice, or if we live by the self-life, and not according to God’s will, we are not in relationship with our Lord.

But with regard to those who are preachers and teachers of The Word of the Lord, we should be those who are testing their words against the truth of the Scriptures, taught in the appropriate context. And context is critical, for many or most lies today are products of Scriptures taught outside their appropriate context which are then made to say what they do not say if taught in the right context. So we need to be students of the Scriptures who read them in context so that we can test the spirits to see if they are of God.

But it isn’t just by their words that we will know if they are of God or not of God, but it has to do with their practices, too. What is important to them? What do they value? Do they put tremendous value in the things of this world? Or do they place enormous value on the things of God, and of his word (taught in context)? What do they live by? By the patterns of this sinful world and by worldly culture? Or by the Word of God and his requirements of us who profess faith in the Lord and who claim Jesus as Lord of our lives?

But by what they teach we will know if they are of God or not if we are diligent about testing what they teach against the truth of the Scriptures taught in the right context. For by this we will know if they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, or if they are genuine followers of Jesus Christ who speak the truth and not the lies. Especially if they are not emphasizing the critical importance of putting sin to death, by the Spirit, and walks of obedience to our Lord, in holy living, they are not of God, but they are still of the flesh.

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

Hope in heaven awaiting me,
Because You died at Calvary.

I have been forgiven,
And I’m bound for heaven.
Jesus set me free from
All my sin, I say.
I will praise Him always!

Lord, I love You for all You’ve done:
Overcame death, my vict’ry won!
Jesus saved me, and now I’m free!
I rejoice in His love for me.

I will walk in vict’ry!
My sin is but hist’ry!
I am free to please Him
With my life today.
I will love Him always!

Lord, I thank You for giving me
A new life bought at Calvary.
Loving Jesus, I meet with Him.
Tender mercies now flow within.

Senate GOP Budget Picture: Senate Republicans Plan to Release Major Revisions to Trump’s Tax Bill

The Senate Finance Committee’s plan to extract savings from the Medicaid and — perhaps — Medicare health insurance programs could depart in key respects from the version of the giant bill that narrowly passed the US House in May. The release of the panel’s draft will likely touch off a new round of wrangling between fiscal conservatives and moderates.

Senate Republicans want to scale back the $350 billion cost of increasing the [SALT] cap from $10,000 to $40,000 for those making less than $500,000.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and a group of Republican members from high-tax states have warned that any diminishing of the SALT cap would doom the measure

To pay for [tax breaks for businesses], which most economists rank as the most pro-growth in the overall tax bill, senators may restrict temporary breaks on tips and overtime

[They may also scale back cuts to green energy tax credits.] Banks are especially interested to ensure that tax credits on their balance sheets as part of renewable energy financing aren’t rendered worthless by the bill. [Certainly can't have unhappy banks]

Medicaid and Medicare cuts present the most daunting challenge in the committee’s draft. [Situation murky, ask again later.]
