  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

About to die. In desperate need of a miracle.

I'm disabled. I can't get on government assistance. I'm almost out of money. I am NOT asking for money from anyone other than from God who can miraculously provide. If God does not intervene I'll be dead soon. I would not be able to survive as a homeless person.

I only have a couple of months of funds left.

I desperately need people to pray and fast for me! I need a miracle.

Numbers 13:1-15:41 "Send for yourself" (Eyes on the promise? or the circumstances?)

PARASHAH: “Shelach’l’ha” (send for yourself) NUMBERS 13:1-15:41…

Most of us know the story of the 12 spies that were sent to spy out the land of Canaan, sent by Moshe by the word of YHVH. But let’s look at the story carefully and see what we can dig out of the sand pile, we might find some valuable stuff hidden in the sand.

The word of Moshe to the 12 tribes was that they might select from each tribe a leader to represent that tribe, so the list is read. Among those selected, we are going to concentrate on two of the leaders;

“Kaleb” son of “Yephuneh” from the tribe of Y’hudah, and “Hoshea” son of “Nun” from the tribe of Ephrayim”.

The story goes as follows as we read the Torah. The 12 are sent out on a “reconnaissance” mission to “spy out” the land. What do we mean by that? Any time an army is going to invade a territory, the army needs to know how many men the enemy has, what they have, where they live, their fortresses, etc. This is a common battle strategy, nothing new. Adonai has already “promised” them the land, done deal! Yet they still have to go into battle, but the battle already has the outcome, Israelites win! This is what Adonai sees looking up the “finite” timeline in the “finite” dimension” and we must remember that HE sees ALL THINGS from the “infinite” timeline, the things that have already come to pass, even before they “pass”

But, whose idea was it to "spy out the land?" We see that Adonai tells Moshe those same words; "Send for yourself men to spy out the land of Canaan which I am giving "B'nei Yisrael" So, did the idea come from God, or did someone else think of it first? If we look at Deuteronomy 1:22 we read that the idea came from the people: Moses said;

"And you came near to me and said: 'let us send men before us to spy out the land and bring back word...."

So, the idea came from the people, and it seems that God seconded the idea. "Yes, it is OK, send out men to spy out the land. It would be a military mission to observe the details; the strengths, the weaknesses, food supplies, etc...which is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) in any conquest or invasion of an enemy territory.

The spies travel throughout the land of Canaan for 40 days, they see many things, the fruit of the land, grapes, pomegranates, figs, date palms, etc. It is indeed a land flowing with “milk and honey” (figs and dates). Yet the beginning of verse 28 starts with BUT! And then follows all the negativity, the people are strong, the cities are walled, the “giants” (and not the team from New York) I mean “the big tall guys” It is very easy to spread discouragement among the people, (vs 32) “and they gave the children of Israel an evil report of the land”. They decided NOT to trust the promises of God, and to keep their eyes on the "visual" not the "spiritual."

The only ones who saw the promise of YHVH were Kaleb and Hoshea, they looked to the promise, but the rest of the leaders set their eyes on the “circumstances”. Going back to verse 16, it points out something interesting; Moshe changes the name of “Hoshea” to “Yehoshua” This is very interesting and sheds light on internal symbolism. The name “Yehoshua” contains two names in the Hebrew language “YH” (Yah) and YESHUA! When we look at the full name “Yehoshua Ben Nun” from the ancient paleo-Hebrew letters and their symbolism, one could get the following message; “Behold and let the eye see (that God, the All-consuming fire) extends the hand to receive the nail, to give (BEN) life to the house (to families) and by the nail, (His) life was given up so that (we) might have life!” (NUN)

When we look at the name “Kaleb Ben Yephuneh” from the ancient Hebrew symbolism, we could get this message: “The house is anointed for instruction” (Kaleb) and “behold let it be made that from the mouth comes forth instruction” (Yephuneh). I guess it depends on how one looks at the letters, perhaps another rabbi would come up with something different, but this is just one view from the ancient perspective.

The result was that panic and discouragement spread throughout the camp, and it wasn’t just a few thousand Israelites, but rather a few million, discouraged by 10 negative leaders. And 10 out-vote 2! Even though Kaleb and Yehoshua tried to encourage the people, the negatives won over. As the saying goes, you can put a few rotten apples in a barrel of good apples, and the good ones will never correct the rotten ones, but the rotten ones will infect the good ones with rottenness.

The result, the Israelites had to stay in the desert wilderness for 40 years, 1 year for each day the spies were in Canaan. Then, to make matters worse, they tried to go into the land without the blessing of Adonai, and they were beaten back. YHVH wants to destroy them all, yet Moshe intercedes for them, and Adonai listens to Moshe. This is the same way Yeshua intercedes for us to the Father, on our behalf when we “get rotten” (miracle we’re still in the land of the living?

Going to chapter 15, we read something interesting from verses 38 to 41, about making and wearing “Tzitziot” or “fringes” on our garments. There are many “traditions” in Judaism, such as the wearing of “Yarmulkes” (head coverings) and Ashkenazim dressing in black and white with black hats, even the lighting of two candles comes from “tradition” Tradition isn’t bad, as long as we understand the meaning behind the tradition. But one should NEVER teach “tradition” as “commandments” there is a world of difference between the two.

However, the making and wearing of Tzitziot, IS a commandment, however many do not follow it, it is up to each individual. One can read it and say; “God says it but I won’t follow it” or “God says it and I will do it” We all have the choice to do or not to do. Whatever the Holy Spirit convicts us to do.

No one knows how the original Tzitziot were made, none have survived 3000 years. Today, there are many different styles and “knot tying” and “wrappings” of the thread when making Tzitziot. One only has to go to YouTube and look up “Tying Tzitziot” and you will have quite a few videos of instructions on “how to” That is the way I learned, from watching a few YouTube videos on “making Tzitziot”.

But what do the Tzitziot symbolize? The scripture tells us in verse 39, “to remember the commandments”. The blue cord reminds of the “blue sea” where the Israelites crossed, and the “blue” of the heavens from whence our Messiah and LORD will break through to return to earth. Today, we use 4 long cords, one of which is blue and is the longest. This cord is used to do the wrappings, and all 4 are used to make the knots. When one ties the knots, it is customary to say, “BaShem Mitzvah Tzitzit” (in the name of the commandment (of making) the tzitzit.

There are 5 knots, symbolizing the 5 first books of the Torah, the number “5” also symbolizes “grace” then there are the windings of the blue thread. The 4 cords are folded over so as to give the appearance of “8” cords, “8” is the number of a “new beginning” which we all have when we are “born-again”

The windings go as follows (but to get a good view and idea, you need to go to YouTube and view the Tzitziot tying videos) 7 windings, then knot, then 8 windings, then knot, then 11 windings, then a knot, then 13 winding, then the final knot. Why the 7, 8, 11, and 13 windings of the blue thread? Well, these spell out the name Y H V H using numbers. “7” being the “perfect number of God, then 7+8=15 which are the sum of the letters Y + H (Y=10, H=5). 11 = “V +H” (V=6, H=5) so now we have the infallible name Y H V H. “13” is the sum of the word “ECHAD” (oneness of God) Alef=1, Chet=8 and Dalet=4. 1+8+4=13, it also symbolizes the 13 attributes of Adonai found in Exodus when Moshe asks to “see God” and his “Spirit passes before him”

As the tzitzit remind us of the commandments, they should always be on our hearts and minds. If we say we are believers and followers of Messiah Yeshua, we are going to show it through obedience to HIS WORD. AS Yeshua said; "If ye love me, obey my commandments" (Salvation comes by faith, and evidenced by our works!)

ACNA and Rome Full Communion?

I am going to be cross posting this in both the Anglican and RCC forums for input from both groups. Can anyone comment on the potential full communion and recognition of ACNA Hold Orders? I cam across this article and it is compelling to believe that we may be on the cusp of full communion between Rome and the ACNA. But how would that actually play out?
Article: Rome Moves Toward 'Full Communion' With Orthodox Anglicans
In a historic step, the Vatican is working toward "full communion" with conservative Anglicans by recognizing Anglican holy orders and churches without requiring "amalgamation or conversion."

The union will be based on a Malta II proposal presented by the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), that revives the Malta I report agreed upon by Pope Paul VI and archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Michael Ramsey in 1966.

According to the Malta I proposals, differences in matters like Petrine primacy, infallibility, and Mariology, would be overcome by ensuring that "neither Communion is tied to a positive acceptance of all the beliefs and devotional practices of the other."
he meetings have now been confirmed in an Ecumenical Relations Task Force Report released by the ACNA College of Bishops, who met at a provincial council from June 20-25, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

The report reveals that Abp. Foley Beach, then-primate of ACNA; Bp. Eric Menees, chair of dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church; and Bp. Ray Sutton, presiding bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church, flew to the Vatican for meetings at the DDF in June 2023.
A high-level ACNA source told Souls and Liberty that "the door of union and mutual recognition of holy orders would remain open only for Anglican provinces that were orthodox and had not permitted the ordination of women or gay blessings/marriage."

"Rome has agreed to enter a separate dialogue with the ACNA and Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GFSA) / Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) part of Anglicanism. This dialogue will not include the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Church of England, the Anglican Church of Canada, or the The Episcopal Church," Sutton emphasized.

The ACNA proposals in September will also suggest ways that GAFCON and GFSA could be included in a broader dialogue.

In being the one….

Romans 6:7 (NASB20)
for the one who has died is freed from sin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If one was to turn this scripture into a question it might read;
Is one willing to die to be freed from sin..?
For when the answer is in the affirmative, freedom from sin is just the faith of the heart away…..
For until one is willing to die rather than sin, the sin that is still alive in the body will control that one’s doings….
But the moment that one is willing to be the one who has died, the heart grabs unto the salvation that is offered in Christ…. For God has made a way for all to walk in newness of life and this way is through their death in Christ…. But for one to access this new life one has to be willing to die rather than sin…. For when one has been brought to the place where one hates their life of sin that has controlled them it is then that that one is ready to give up their life unto death to be freed from all the sin they find in themselves….
For God has made a way for all to be freed from all of their fallen nature and that way is through their believing into their death in Christ…
For this scripture is very true, ‘for the one who has died is freed from sin’…… Be blessed in being the one….
A fellow follower of His, Not me
As One Approved by God
“Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.’” (2 Timothy 2:14-19 ESV)
Paul was writing these words to Timothy, and he was encouraging him to share with others what Paul, via Christ Jesus, was teaching him:
• Fan into flame the gift of God within you
• Do not fear what others will say about you or do to you
• Do not be ashamed of the gospel of Christ
• Follow the pattern of sound words taught by Paul via Christ
• Be strengthened by the grace of God in faith
• Teach others what Christ is teaching you
• If we have died with him, we will live with him
• If we endure with him, we will reign with him
• If we deny him, he will deny us
• If we are faithless, he remains faithful to all he said he would do
So Timothy was to remind the Christians of these things, and he was to charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. And this is not to say that we should not contend for the truth of the gospel, or that we should not defend the honor of God and of his word, or that we should not answer the lies with the truth. But we are not to get into arguments over words which go nowhere and which produce nothing good. But we should speak the truth in love to people.
And now we are all at different places in our lives. Some of us became believers in Christ as children and we are now in our 70s. Some of us have taught the Scriptures for many years, and some of us full-time, and so we may be more familiar with the teachings of the Scriptures than others who have known the Lord a shorter period of time and who have not taught the Scriptures for a very long time. But some people who have taught the Scriptures a long time are not living the Scriptures that they teach others.
So length of time of being a Christian, or length of time and experience in teaching the Scriptures may or may not be relevant to our spiritual walks of faith in obedience to our Lord and to his commands. What is important is that our lives are surrendered to Jesus Christ and that we are following him in his ways and in his truth one day and one step at a time, in a forward direction, and not backwards. And it is important that we are open to hearing from the Lord what he wants to teach us each day from his word.
But this is where a caution comes in. So many people today are teaching the Scriptures out of context, and they are thus willfully (in many cases) twisting them to their own advantage to make them say what they do not teach if taught in the correct biblical context. So if we are going to be workers of God who rightly handle the word of truth, we need to be diligent about reading the Scriptures in their appropriate context, and really in the context of the New Testament, as a whole, to get the right understanding of them.
And we need to be open to being taught by the Holy Spirit with regard to what the Scriptures actually teach, even if the Scriptures disagree with what we were always taught from our childhood on up, or ever since we professed faith in Jesus Christ. For sometimes we are taught these wrongly by others who did not do diligence in studying the Scriptures in their context, but who interpreted them in light of some theology that they were taught by other humans. So do your best to study the Scriptures in context, by the Spirit.
And we are to avoid “irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.” And there is a lot of this “irreverent babble” being passed off today as truth which is not truth, and many are falling prey to this babble because they are not testing what they hear against the teachings of the Scriptures in context. For if it sounds good to them, they accept it. And so many are not even interested in testing what they hear against the teachings of the Scriptures, for they like what feels good even if it isn’t good.
And a lot of this “irreverent babble” is spreading like gangrene here in America, anyway, and so many people are being duped by master liars and manipulators and deceivers who know how to charm the people into believing their lies and into following after the lies and not the truth. So we must be people of discernment who are testing what we hear from others, no matter who they are, to make certain that what they are teaching agrees with what the Scriptures teach in their appropriate context.
And so many people are swerving from the truth and they are following after the lies which feel good to their itching ears. And this is because they are not being discerning but they are, again, going after what makes them feel good, not after what is good and what is good for them. And so many people are professing faith in Jesus Christ and being promised heaven as their eternal destiny who have never died with Christ to sin, and so they have not been raised with him to walk in obedience to him in holy living.
And so we have many false professers of faith in Jesus Christ who are convinced that heaven is guaranteed them when they die who do not honor Christ with their lives but who are still living for the flesh. But the Lord knows who are his, and he said they are those who forsake their sins to follow him in walks of obedience to his commands, in practice. And so if we profess faith in Jesus, but we are still walking in sin, and not in obedience to our Lord’s commands, then we do not have the hope of eternity with God.
My Heart’s Desire
An Original Work / June 29, 2013
Based off Romans 10:1-21; Luke 9:23-26; Ephesians 4:17-24
Loved Ones, Oh, my heart’s desire
Is that you might come to Jesus.
Many appear zealous for God,
But they do not trust in Him.
They have not submitted to the One
Who saved them from their sins;
Not forsaken their sins,
Nor have they obeyed their King.
The word of the Lord is near you:
The word of faith we’re proclaiming:
That you must confess your faith
In Jesus as your Lord and King:
Believe in Him as your Lord,
And follow Him where’er He leads.
Share the gospel; be a witness,
And meet others’ needs.
Beautiful are the feet of those
Who bring the good news of Jesus:
Anyone who would come to Him
Must deny himself today;
Die to sin and self, and
Let the Spirit transform you in heart;
Put on your new self in Jesus,
Yielding to the cross.
How can I incorporate Christian themes into my story without it seeming forced or cringey?
I’d like to write a sequel to a book I started nearly four years ago, and when I wrote that one it was very secular-leaning. I stopped writing it a little over a year ago due to mental health circumstances, and now I’d like to pick it up again and add in some biblical themes as a “sprinkling of salt” (as the Bible would say). I’d like to explore themes of religious trauma/hurt, overcoming, found family, loss, and faltering of faith in God. Specifically, I’d like to have two characters who were both hurt by religion, one of which has overcome her trauma and grown stronger faith because of it, and one who has lost his belief and trust in God altogether. I’d like the former character to show the latter character Gods love and try to talk to him about it, but I’m not sure how to do so without it coming off as pushy or forced.
On another (slightly related) note, do any experienced Christian writers have any tips on how to not make your writing into an idol? I feel like I do that so often, and it always leads to me getting hurt and distancing myself from God. Thank you!!
How to save the Mall
To save a Mall it needs 3 things.
1. A Book Store
2. A Furniture Store
3. A McDonald’s
The Book Store and the Furniture Store are needed
so people have a comfortable place to sit and rest.
The Furniture Store should sell recliners and couches.
The Book Store should have good seating.
The food doesn‘t technically need to be a McDonald’s
but something close to that.
Jeffrey Epstein Grand Jury Documents Released After Governor DeSantis Signs Legislation to Authorize it
In Februrary:
Governor DeSantis Signs Legislation to Authorize the Release of Jeffrey Epstein Grand Jury Documents
HB 117 will allow disclosure of grand jury testimony if the following conditions are met:
  • The subject of the grand jury inquiry is dead.
  • The investigation was about sexual activity with a minor.
  • yadda yadda
Because all the above apply to the Jeffrey Epstein Florida case, this legislation will authorize release of the Epstein grand jury documents when it takes effect on July 1, 2024.
That's today.
Florida prosecutors knew Epstein raped teenage girls 2 years before cutting deal, transcript shows
The transcripts show that the grand jury heard testimony that Epstein, who was then in his 40s, had raped teenage girls as young as 14 at his Palm Beach mansion, often paying them so he could commit statutory rape or assault. The teenagers testified and told detectives they were also paid cash or rented cars if they found him more girls.
“The details in the record will be outrageous to decent people,” Delgado wrote in his order. “The testimony taken by the Grand Jury concerns activity ranging from grossly unacceptable to rape — all of the conduct at issue is sexually deviant, disgusting, and criminal.”
In 2008, Epstein cut a deal with South Florida federal prosecutors that allowed him to escape more severe federal charges
Criticism of the deal resulted in the 2019 resignation of Trump's labor secretary, Alex Acosta, who was the U.S. attorney for South Florida in 2008 and signed off on the deal.
Can Satan make people fall in love??????????
I became a Christian in the summer of 2022. Prior to that, I had been an atheist for many many years. However, there is one thing I should clear up. Despite being an atheist, I never played around with the demonic, I didn't want to "poke the bear" so to speak. So maybe I was more agnostic? Nevertheless, I was quite frankly, scared of the demonic, and wanted nothing to do with it, even then.
This is important.
Now you see, I grew up with what ive recently learned was OCD. "Walk back there or you will develop cancer" "touch that 5 more times or you will hit your head" yadda yadda yadda.
I used to think this was God, but have been informed that God does not threaten in such ways. With that being said, as OCD does, it figures out exactly what it needs to do, to scare you. See where im going with this? I was scared of the demonic. So naturally, my OCD started to veer into that sort of territory. I started to get thoughts telling me to pray to satan. Naturally, I resisted. Again, I wasnt even Christian yet. I just was scared.
However, one day, I was tired, stressed, whatever, I don't really remember, it was years ago. But I gave in. I got on my knees and I prayed to satan. Now before you all start saying "repent repent" believe me, I have. I only did it that one time years ago, and even still, I have apologized to God several times.
Now what did I pray for you ask? Well, I was a teenage boy. What do teenage boys have on their minds? Girls. There was this one girl I really liked. Lets call her Jane. Jane and I had been friends for a couple months and I had developed quite the crush on her. So I prayed that within five days, Jane would reach out to me and confess her love. I got off my knees and didnt think much of it, I was a little disappointed I had listened to the thoughts in my head, but that was it. I tried to just move on.
Five days later, I get a text from Jane. A big text. A paragraph. Within the paragraph she talks about how she had a crush on me and loved me yadda yadda yadda. Normal gushy teenager stuff. I was stunned. Terrified. Did my prayer actually get answered? And if so, what did I owe? Had I sold my soul?? Had I- Questions were flying through my mind.
I decided to not date Jane, for just under a year. This happened in august, it wasnt until June that she and I finally got together. Needless to say...we are still together, and shes now my fiance. And it has got me thinking, I never did get answers to my questions. Did satan make her love me? I don't understand. I don't even know if satan can do that! But nevertheless, it does worry me. Any help?
The Famous American Baptist Controversy: The Causal Usage of εἰς in Acts 2:38.
The Text in Question: Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
**********
Have you ever noticed when Acts 2:38 is discussed here at CF, many individuals will comment the on phrase “for forgiveness of sins” really means “because of the forgiveness of sins” and at the same time, all major peer reviewed modern English Translations have “for the forgiveness of sins?”
There is a reason for this. Historically, it is in the Baptist DNA to affirm “because” instead of “for” not only because it fits their anti Sacramental theology but also two major Greek Scholars of their heritage with world reputations rocked the Biblical academic world with a new way of interpreting this passage of Scripture….allowing for “because of the forgiveness of sins” to be affirmed.
What then is the Causal Usage of εἰς? This subject matter is complex and certainly above my pay grade….but I will try. εἰς is a greek proposition found 1746 times in the NT and most of the time is translated into English as “for.” εἰς usage is always forwarding looking with the semantic meaning as “for the purpose of” or “in order that.” The casual usage of εἰς means sometimes, the meaning can be translated as “because.”
It was A.T. Robertson (1863-1934) who first set forth the thesis “for the forgiveness of sins” really means “because of the forgiveness of sins” with his argument concerning the Causal usage of εἰς in Word Pictures published in 1927. This caused quite a stir in the Biblical academia as no scholar prior to that point in time attributed the causal εἰς to any part of the NT lexicography. The causal usage of εἰς was only found in Hellenistic Greek and is exceeding rare.
As expected, Robertson’s findings were met with skepticism and dismissed. The criticism leveled at him was his theology, as a Baptist, took precedence over grammar….a fact that he himself acknowledged.
The controversy of the Causal Usage of εἰς becomes turbocharged when another highly respected Baptist American Greek scholar Julius Mantey reasserted Robertson’s claims in an article published in the Journal of Biblical Literature (1951). However, Mantey’s claims went further than Robertson’s and stated there was no fewer than nine Causal Usage of εἰς found in the NT!
Mantey’s timing of publishing this article could not have been worse. In 1937, The National Council of Churches decided to authorize a new translation of the English Bible called the Revised Standard Version. Greek scholars from all parts of America were involved in this huge 15 year project…set for release in September, 1952. Most of these American Greeks scholars who had grown close together during the translation process and knew of A.T. Robertson’s flawed claims some twenty years earlier. But with academic stature of someone like Mantey upping the ante on an issue that was thought to be settled…he got immediately noticed….and not surprisingly got pummeled from all sides.
Dr. Ralph Marcus of The University of Chicago and head of the Department of Hellenistic Studies debated him in a series are articles. The location of this debate blow by blow is listed below.
Mantey, J. R. (1951). “The Causal Use of eis in the New TestamentJournal of Biblical Literature 70(1): 45–8.
— (1951). “On Causal Eis AgainJournal of Biblical Literature 70(4): 309–11.
Marcus, R. (1951). “On Causal EISJournal of Biblical Literature 70(2): 129–30.
— (1952). “The Elusive Causal EIS Journal of Biblical Literature 71(1): 43–4.
A few take-aways.
(1) The Causal Usage of εἰς is very rare at best in Hellenistic Greek and unsubstantiated in Koine Greek.
(2) Even if the Causal Usage of εἰς be granted in Acts 2:38, the text would still appear to say that the gift of the Spirit occurs through both repentance and baptism. This would create just as much difficulty for anti-sacramentalists as the phrase concerning forgiveness of sins.
(3) Nearly identical language is given in Matthew 26:28 and concerning Christ's blood of the covenant, indicates that blood is poured out "for the forgiveness of sins"… clearly denoting purpose.
(4) Causal Usage of εἰς argues for an exception to the rule based upon the English distinction between “for” and “because” rather than the Greek distinction in meaning between εἰς and διά.
Some seventy years later, Baptists continue to use the Causal Usage of εἰς though without textual support.
And here is the big distinction: Sacramentalists believe baptism is a means of grace and not a human work and the anti-sacramentalists believe baptism is a human work and not a means of grace….. and the debate goes on and on and on.
Several US military bases in Europe on heightened alert amid possible terrorist threat
Several US military bases across Europe were put on a heightened state of alert over the weekend, with the level of force protection raised to its second-highest state amid concerns that a terrorist attack could target US military personnel or facilities, according to two US officials.
The bases, including the US Army garrison in Stuttgart, Germany where US European Command is headquartered, raised their alert level to Force Protection Condition “Charlie” on Sunday, the officials said.
That status “applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely,” according to the US Army.
One of the US officials, who is stationed at a base in Europe, told CNN they haven’t seen this threat level “in at least 10 years,” and said it usually means the military has received an “active-reliable threat.”
Yahoo! Comments
There was an article on Yahoo! about Blessed Carlo Acutis being the first millennial Saint.
Several anti-Catholics responded, the Church should be charged with crimes against humanity and banned, they must want more young people in so priests can molest them, their numbers are declining, it’s non-biblical. Etc
Why do they hate us so much?
If someone said negative comments about the gays, Muslims or Obama, people would go hysterical.
Very hypocritical.
Douglas Wilson Argues That Giving Women the Right To Vote Is the Result of ‘Men Becoming Spiritual Eunuchs’
Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, made waves online after arguing against women’s right to vote in a video last week.
In the video, Wilson seemed to frame the ratification of the 19th Amendment as a repudiation of the institution of the family and a man’s duty to represent his family in the public sphere.
Wilson has long been a controversial figure—both inside and outside the evangelical movement—for his charitable views of Christian nationalism and American chattel slavery, how his church has handled allegations of sexual abuse, and his methods for engaging culture, referred to by some as the “Moscow mood.”
“The problem can be called by many names,” Wilson said at the beginning of the video. “The men of our generation have had a failure of nerve. They have abdicated their responsibilities, and we are consequently in the midst of a crisis of leadership.”
Why is a homosexual act a sin when it hurts no one?
I don't know.
I have zero reason to see how being homosexual is wrong and/or can hurt yourself or others. It has zero logic to me.
Right, according to your logic of morality. In the beginning, Adam and Eve made a similar mistake. They wanted their own abilities to decide what is good or bad, independent from God and they did by eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Where Is the ‘Lost’ Ark of the Covenant?
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the new Eve — and the new Ark of the Covenant.
Many of us are fascinated by the biblical Ark of the Covenant, one of history’s most enduring apparent mysteries. The search for the lost ark involves a search for the proof of God, and for some, possibly an attempt to obtain the power of God.
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas built on this theme in their wildly popular Raiders of the Lost Ark film from 1981. In this story, the ark is discovered by Professor Indiana Jones at the site of a Nazi expedition in Egypt in 1936 at the lost city of Tanis. While it is not believed that the Nazis ever made efforts to search for the ark, many others have attempted — and are still attempting — to uncover the mystery of the location of the lost relic. But are they looking in the right places, and for the right reasons?
God will make for Adam a SUITABLE helper
Berean Standard Bible, Genesis 2:
18 The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”
Adam had God and animals/pets with him, but he was alone. Eve is a suitable helper for Adam. In what ways?
The Bible does not talk much about that. Instead, right in the next chapter, Eve falls for the Serpant's lie and takes Adam with her.
a suitable
Strong's Hebrew: 5048. נֶ֫גֶד (neged) — 150 Occurrences
Hagar sits down opposite her son Ishmael in Genesis 21:
16 Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot, for she said, “Let me not look on the death of the child.” And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept.
She is not abandoning him, but emotionally she cannot be too close to him at that moment.
Nehemiah 12:
8 And the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who with his brothers was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving. 9 And Bakbukiah and Unni and their brothers stood opposite them in the service.
There were two groups in the service. They stand H5048-opposite each other, not in the antagonistic sense but in a complementary sense. They complement each other in performing the service.
In this sense, Eve is an H5048-suitable helper for Adam. Although she is the opposite of Adam, she complements him.
I have a PhD in AI and have published in international journals. Born in Hong Kong, my mother tongue is Cantonese. When I was working in Japan, my blue-eyed Canadian wife used to proofread my research papers before I sent them for review. She did many things that I couldn't do or did not like to do. In many practical ways, she was helpful. We lived in Japan for a decade. I didn't learn to speak Japanese; she did. She was the opposite of me but complemented me.
Because your wife is the opposite of you, that's the source of disagreements and conflicts. If not taken care of, hostility will rise in the relationship.
Amplified Bible:
Now the LORD God said, “It is not good (beneficial) for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [one who balances him—a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.”
Pray for a suitable helpmate. If my wife were exactly like me, God help our kids :)
Rome and ACNA full communion?
I am going to be cross posting this in both the Anglican and RCC forums for input from both groups. Can anyone comment on the potential full communion and recognition of ACNA Holy Orders? I came across this article and it is compelling to believe that we may be on the cusp of full communion between Rome and the ACNA. But how would that actually play out?
Article: Rome Moves Toward 'Full Communion' With Orthodox Anglicans
In a historic step, the Vatican is working toward "full communion" with conservative Anglicans by recognizing Anglican holy orders and churches without requiring "amalgamation or conversion."
The union will be based on a Malta II proposal presented by the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), that revives the Malta I report agreed upon by Pope Paul VI and archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Michael Ramsey in 1966.
According to the Malta I proposals, differences in matters like Petrine primacy, infallibility, and Mariology, would be overcome by ensuring that "neither Communion is tied to a positive acceptance of all the beliefs and devotional practices of the other."
he meetings have now been confirmed in an Ecumenical Relations Task Force Report released by the ACNA College of Bishops, who met at a provincial council from June 20-25, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
The report reveals that Abp. Foley Beach, then-primate of ACNA; Bp. Eric Menees, chair of dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church; and Bp. Ray Sutton, presiding bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church, flew to the Vatican for meetings at the DDF in June 2023.
A high-level ACNA source told Souls and Liberty that "the door of union and mutual recognition of holy orders would remain open only for Anglican provinces that were orthodox and had not permitted the ordination of women or gay blessings/marriage."
"Rome has agreed to enter a separate dialogue with the ACNA and Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GFSA) / Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) part of Anglicanism. This dialogue will not include the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Church of England, the Anglican Church of Canada, or the The Episcopal Church," Sutton emphasized.
The ACNA proposals in September will also suggest ways that GAFCON and GFSA could be included in a broader dialogue.
Rumblings in a Silent Calm
Do you have acquaintances who feel we are past the “shared powers” of the three branches of gov’t, an apparatus fully assimilated in gov’t wreaking lawless havoc, yet makes no declaration or war, , while also aware of other acquaintances who feel we are in no conflict at all?
Of those who feel the bloom has fallen from our original forms of simple influence, now erased by silencing and judicial activism right into all levels of academic, tech, news, medical and bench, if all true, this apparatus is a strength that seems to thrive in the absence of an actual declaration of war.
What related impression do you hold? Thanks!
I feel like I might have done wrong but at the same time, no.
I was leaving Mass this evening. As I was approaching the parking garage, a man starts hollering for me "Maam?" and I sort of look at him but pretend that I didn't realize he was referring to me. I think he asked me something if I could give him a dollar. I'm not embarking on a discussion about whether or not someone should give a stranger a dollar if asked - to be honest, I don't care as much as some people do, I'd do it in a more public location, but this was sort of in a back alley, if you will. I don't appreciate male strangers asking women for help when they could ask a man - for the most part, I think it's completely unethical for male strangers to approach women for help. I ignored him because I didn't know if he was dangerous or not. I kind of wish I were a better Christian and helped him if he needed it, but as I said - ASK A MAN, NOT A WOMAN WALKING BY HERSELF!
