  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Marriage, etc, in Heaven

I think in Mormonism, JWs, and Islam there is marriage in Heaven.

But Matthew 22:30 says:
At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

Since the Bible seems to teach that sex must be within a marriage, no marriage means no sex. Some see sex as a gift from God and might miss going for an eternity without it.

Where Do Suicides Go According to the Catholic Church?

Then when Judas, His betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.—Mt 27:3-5.

There are two things that kill the soul: despair and false-hope.—St. Augustine, Sermon 87

Let me say at the outset of this article that I have had friends commit suicide. So, I don’t like writing this. But a major corrective needed to be issued against some high-profile modernist theologians who are currently misleading many vulnerable Catholics on this topic of self-harm. The fact is if this article turns many readers against me but saves one life or one soul, it is worth it.

As we approach Holy Week, I remember how Judas was always my least favorite person in the Passion narratives. It wasn’t just because he betrayed Christ, precipitating His crucifixion, but because his betrayal ends without hope. We know Judas went to hell precisely because Christ said: “The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by Whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would have been better for that man if he had not been born”.—Mt 26:24.

The Catholic Church has always held that suicide is murder, not a psychological-game to play of “who can prove reduced culpability.” You see, if your last act on earth was a murder you didn’t have the right to commit, you probably didn’t have time to repent.

Testing One's Ability to "tell" if something "sounds" like Scripture or not... (seeking info)

Can someone repost the test to see if you can recognize the word of God?

It was a list of sample "scriptures" some Biblical, many not to demonstrate how people cannot just "tell" what is authoritative Scripture and what is not. Someone on these fora had posted one with sprinklings of quotes from many sources, some Buddhist, etc.

Anyone got that one?

A synapses of the Holy Bible From Genesis to Revelations

Hi everyone :

I am doing something very special with the help of music and AI, I am touching on each book of the Bible all through AI and reflecting on each chapter , giving us a synapses of that chapter and how it relates to Jesus and how it relates to the end times. Is there some place where I can post just pure audio ? It would be like a podcast but would cover each book, I am on Judges now each section of this shall we call it a podcast will be 15 misn long roughly.

When i switch over to my master computer I will post some of the text that is also provided by AI, and since the Bible is the most popular book out there AI should know it fairly well. I have asked it to follow the King James Bible of 1611, make it interesting and be Biblical. It is interesting what it is putting out.

President Donald Trump is weighing in on a national debate, apparently calling on Congress to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

Texas Republican sues over Capitol Police office search, citing ’emotional distress’

Kind of comedy gold.
"Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) filed a lawsuit seeking $2.5 million in damages after a U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officer entered his office, prompting claims from the GOP congressman that he is “worried and anxious” about his interactions with the agency.
The suit stems from a 2021 incident in which an officer entered Nehls’s office over the Thanksgiving break, relaying that he found the door to the office wide open.
Upon seeing a white board with “suspicious writings mentioning body armor with an outline of the Rayburn Building next to the Longworth building with an ‘x’”’ marked” on the map, the officer forwarded the information to supervisors. Three sergeants in the Intelligence Operations Section of the USCP later visited Nehl’s office and asked about the white board." “Congressman Nehls was later informed by his staff of the unauthorized entry of his office, the photographing of his whiteboard, and the questioning of his staff about the contents of his writings on the whiteboard. He was appalled and outraged by the invasion of his privacy, and he regarded the actions of the Capitol Police to be a threat to the liberties of the people of his district and the nation as a whole,” Nehls wrote." I'll be surprised if anyone says "yes."
You can consider non-economic factors.
You may consider that issues like gun ownership, ending abortion, or deporting immigrants are worth economic pain to you. If so, please comment.

President Trump Is Saving Social Security and Stopping Fraud – Don’t Believe Media Lies

The manufactured Social Security panic began before President Trump even won last November’s election, with the liberal establishment claiming that he wanted to “cut Social Security” and kick seniors off their benefits. In reality, Trump has repeatedly promised to “not touch” Social Security.
But the lies and misdirection have only grown more egregious since Trump took office, with every upgrade to how the program is run and every revelation of fraud treated as tantamount to ripping grandma’s check out of her hands.

So many of those against Trump listen to the same old propaganda without checking the facts.

Enoch and Elijah

Ok, it’s my understanding that Catholicism teaches that heaven is not a physical place in space so I’ve asked this before, either here or on another forum, but where are Enoch and Elijah if heaven isn’t a physical place? They aren’t among the planets. They aren’t floating around in outer space, yet they were taken to heaven and were not glorified. I just don’t get it. Anyone?

Give me that old time Fundamental Attribution Problem...

Yeah, it's something like this these days, isn't it? We maximize the meaning of other's wrongdoing while diminishing the meaning of what we, ourselves do wrong.

I mean, politics and business seems to be rife with this sort of erroneous thinking. :handpointright: :handpointleft:

Then again, this video above is 6 years old. Maybe people and politics have changed and when people point the finger, they're now right?

Taxes Still The Largest Tax Increase In Years

Pence called the tariffs the largest tax increase ever.

If the reciprocal taxes are removed (they have been delayed) this will still be the largest tax increase since 1982.
=========
I expect our overall tax rate to be a bit lower than now after the new wonderful Trump bill. Of course, prices will be much higher except for oil which will be less as it always is during a downturn. Of course, we have among the lowest tax rates in the industrial world with government services to match.

Republicans are Losing the Image of Being Financially Responsible

For decades, America has been a place where other nations could safely
invest. And the Republican Party has held the image of fiscal responsibility.

The president's eratic declaring of tariffs, has changed the global perception that
America is a safe and predictable place to invest.

Is Investor Sentiment Shifting Away from the U.S.?

The Panicans are sounding the alarm again, and trying to make the markets plunge!

The 10 year treasury yield had its largest weekly rise since 2001, and the dollar is devaluing at the same time... so what? When a patient gets out of surgery, they will be sick for a little while before they get better.

If the president was a democrat, the media would be completely silent about this.

Fed’s Kashkari says rising bond yields, falling dollar show investors are moving on from the U.S.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari said Friday that recent market trends show investors are moving away from the U.S. as the safest place to invest while President Donald Trump’s trade war escalates.
With Treasury yields rising and the U.S. dollar sagging against its global counterparts in recent days, the trends are running counter to what you might normally see, the central bank official said during a CNBC “Squawk Box” interview.
“Normally, when you see big tariff increases, I would have expected the dollar to go up. The fact that the dollar is going down at the same time, I think, lends some more credibility to the story of investor preferences shifting,” Kashkari said.
The 10-year Treasury yield has surged this week after Trump announced his intention to slap a 10% across-the-board tariff against U.S. trading partners and threatened to impose even harsher select levies before backing down Wednesday.
At the same time, the greenback has slumped more than 3% against a basket of global currencies, with moves potentially signifying a turn away from safe-haven U.S. assets.
“Investors around the world have viewed America as the best place to invest, and if that’s true, we will have a trade deficit. So now one of the ways that expresses itself is in lower yields across asset classes in America,” Kashkari said. “If the trade deficit is going to go down, it could be that investors are saying, OK, America no longer is the most attractive place in the world to invest, and then you would expect to see bond yields go up.”

Denisovan jawbone dredged up by fishermen near Taiwan

Fossil jawbone reveals mysterious Denisovans lived in ancient Taiwan

First confirmed fossil found outside Siberia and the Tibetan Plateau shows the archaic human also lived in hot climates

In 2008, Kun-Yu Tsai was shopping for antiques in southern Taiwan’s Tainan City when an unusual relic caught his eye: a brownish jawbone with blackened, thickset teeth that fishermen had dredged up from the nearby Penghu Channel. An amateur fossil hunter, Kun-Yu recognized the mysterious jawbone as human—but noticed it was distinct from modern mandibles. Intrigued, he bought the fossil and later donated it to Taiwan’s National Museum of Natural Science.

An analysis of ancient proteinspreserved within the fossil, published today in Science, pegs the jawbone as belonging to a Denisovan, a close cousin of Neanderthals that lived from roughly 400,000 years to 30,000 years ago. Previous confirmed fossils of the enigmatic hominin were found only in the cold, high-altitude climes of Siberia and the Tibetan Plateau. But Penghu 1, as the jawbone is known, shows Denisovans were also at home in humid lowland tropics, says Fabrice Demeter, a paleoanthropologist at the University of Copenhagen (KU) who wasn’t involved with the work.

The first Denisovan remains were uncovered by Russian scientists in Siberia’s Denisova Cave in 2008.

Hmmm... that's the same year this jawbone was found.

George Will: Trump Might Be Most Progressive President in a Century

Trump might be the most progressive president since, early in the 20th century, progressivism defined itself with three core tenets:

First, only an energetic executive can make modern government “wieldy” — Woodrow Wilson’s word. (“The president,” said Wilson, “is at liberty, both in law and conscience, to be as big a man as he can.”) Second, the separation of powers is a premodern mistake that permits Congress to meddle in government and allows the judiciary to inhibit the executive.
Third, conservatives see modern society’s complexities as reasons to avoid attempting dramatic social engineering, lest unintended consequences overwhelm intended ones. Progressives think conservatives are worrywarts too timid about wielding government.

Commander of US base in Greenland fired for email critical of Vance visit; will man radio tower in Tahiti <-- JOKE

An official familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News that days after Vance's visit, Col. Sussanah Meyers wrote an email to base personnel that distanced the base from some of the vice president's comments about Denmark, of which Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory.

Military.com was the first to report the contents of the email, in which it said Meyers suggested that Vance's criticisms of Denmark were not shared by Pituffik.

During his visit, Vance accused Denmark of failing to provide adequate security against "very aggressive incursions from Russia, from China and from other nations." The vice president underscored President Donald Trump's repeated suggestion that the U.S. needs to acquire Greenland for national security reasons.

[Without having read the letter, I assume this was indeed a misstep by the commander. If you're non-political, you're non-political.]

MAGA Maoism - Parallels With the Past

Many have made comparisons between Trump and two well-known autocrats from the 1930's-40's, but a new one is making the rounds now: Trump and Mao. It's more novel (at least to me), but also strikes me as being potentially more accurate, with Mao's emphasis on personalist propaganda; his purging and destruction of elite institutions; his revenge after losing and then returning to power; and his exaltation of rural life physical labor over urban life and the knowledge economy.

As the United States grapples with the upheaval unleashed by the Trump administration, many Chinese people are finding they can relate to what many Americans are going through.

They are saying it feels something like the Cultural Revolution, the period known as “the decade of turmoil.” The young aides Elon Musk has sent to dismantle the U.S. government reminded some Chinese of the Red Guards whom Mao Zedong enlisted to destroy the bureaucracy at the peak of the Cultural Revolution. Upon hearing President Trump’s musing about serving a third term, they joked that China’s leader, Xi Jinping, must be saying, “I know how to do it” — he secured one in 2022 by engineering a constitutional change.

The United States helped China modernize and expand its economy in the hope that China would become more like America — more democratic and more open. Now for some Chinese, the United States is looking more and more like China.

“Coming from an authoritarian state, we know that dictatorship is not just a system — it is, at its core, the pursuit of power,” Wang Jian, a journalist, wrote in an X post criticizing Mr. Trump. “We also know that the Cultural Revolution was about dismantling institutions to expand control.”

Oeuf! U.S. egg prices hit record high despite Trump's claim they're 'much cheaper'

U.S. egg prices increased again last month to reach a new record-high average of $6.23 US per dozen, or about $8.73 Cdn. That's up from about $5.90 US per dozen in February, and about $4.95 in January.
The U.S. increase was reported Thursday in the Consumer Price Index. Overall, the index for food increased 0.4 per cent in March, which includes a 5.9 per cent increase in the index for eggs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the last 12 months, the index for eggs increased by 60.4 per cent.

Pope Francis’ shock untidy appearance in Vatican: Was it intentional?

The timing and manner of his guest-starring appearance in the Vatican today will have reminded the Roman Curia just how hard to pin down, or predict, Francis really is.

VATICAN CITY (PerMariam) — In a surprise move, Pope Francis appeared in the Vatican today in an event most notable for the fact of the strikingly disheveled nature of his appearance.

A little before 1 p.m. Rome time on Thursday afternoon, tourists and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Basilica were greeted by a shock sighting of the Pope. Reports, broken first by ANSA, documented how he came to inspect the just-concluded restoration work on the Altar of the Cathedra, before then being wheeled to pray at the altar of St. Pius X.

After that, he returned to the Casa Santa Martha guesthouse which he has made his home for the duration of this pontificate.

But even more striking than the surprise appearance by the Pontiff – of which more further down – was his appearance and that of his assistants.

Are my future inlaws being toxic?

I made the mistake of moving out of state with my fiance. He was living out for work and school and i was lonesome for him after a year of long distance. My future mother in law kept pressuring me to move in with him. And I thought I'd try living here despite knowing it was wrong to live together before we married and not being sure i wanted to live here. But i thought id give it a try and have the chance to let our relationship grow. I got a transfer and Turns out my boss and work environment out here is toxic and so is his. We both are barely making ends meet and simply getting a new job would mean i would take a huge paycut and not be able to pay my bills at all (due to state by state minimum wage). My family is welcoming for us to move back home but his are not. His parents are making me feel guilty if I leave but at the same time not offering him to come back. I just want to wait till we get married and things figured out. Before i moved in he couldn't even afford food and me leaving would put him in a bad spot. My folks offered to let him come live with us but his acct like nooooo we moved to there you have to stay! His mom and dad keep guilt tripping me for wanting to go home and it's too the point of me wanting to tell them off but i don't want to make things worse for my fiance. They also made me mad because they were like "just get married at the court house" . That really struck a nerve with me. I don't like someone else making my major life decisions for me
