  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Give me that old time Fundamental Attribution Problem...

Yeah, it's something like this these days, isn't it? We maximize the meaning of other's wrongdoing while diminishing the meaning of what we, ourselves do wrong.

I mean, politics and business seems to be rife with this sort of erroneous thinking. :handpointright: :handpointleft:

Then again, this video above is 6 years old. Maybe people and politics have changed and when people point the finger, they're now right?

Yep. Aristotle talks about something similar, namely the way that people want to receive credit for their virtues but be excused for their vices.

Yes, there's Aristotle to consider, but then, I'm thinking more in the context of Jesus and Paul the Apostle here in all of this.

Part of the problem contributing to the onset of FAE is anything pertaining to 'revolutionary' thinking, especially that of Marx, Lenin or Mao. ;)

Because of this, I hear that the 'blame game' is all the rage these days and everyone thinks they're a victim.

I've yet to meet anyone who didn't have a "Fundamental Attribution Problem." (Myself included.) The same thing happens with couples or groups of people. It seems to be not only psychological, it's also sociological.
