You do have a point. The country is rich in natural resources and yet they are still considered border line third world.

What does that say about their gov't?

It says, quite frankly, that their government sucks.

I have very mixed emotions & thoughts about this whole Mexican Immigration problem (we all might as well be honest enough to admit that when we say "Illegal Immigrants" everyone is talking about Mexicans). For many years, I lived in a community in Minnesota that was 30-35% Mexican. They came because of a huge packing plant that paid good wages and gave good benefits.

Most of us cannot imagine the horrors many of our Mexican neighbors have had to endure - on both sides of the border. Extortion, forced prostitution, abject poverty, you name it... Many of them are desperate, calloused people. On one level, they've almost been forced to cheat, lie and steal. Still, most of them are very family-centered people, and very religious. And I found most of them to be extremely warm and friendly.

But many of the Mexicans have brought a "unique" set of problems with them. Alcohol is a huge problem - and many Mexicans run into all kinds of trouble with the law, due to driving while drunk. They also tend to get into a lot of fights, mostly while drunk. In addition, the men tend to be very "macho", and are very overt in their sexual advances toward women. This does not go over very big when it's young teen girls that they're hitting on, or "regular" white women.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, as I see it. I don't know what all the answers are. But I do know that they won't be found unless we start being honest about what the PROBLEMS are.

By the way, I hear that Dolt McCoy's back-up is a guy named Hector "Poncho" Gonzalez. Is this true? ;)

You have yet to see anything until you come down here and watch it. Almost every night there are reports on the evening news about a shooting due to this illegals getting drunk and shooting this other illegal, of them killing another while driving sober or not. shooting cops, raping women...you name it.

I have stood in line in a grocery store and been physically hit on by an illegal. Before I knew some choice words in Spanish, I had one arrested because he TOUCHED me. Of course I punched him dead in the nose. But it's horrid down here. Now I say something profane in their own language and remind them that Texas is a legal gun carrying state.

I have noticed that Latin's are not the same as those of Central and South American origin. My SO is of Spanish heirtage with some Puerto Rican culture. His family and friends NEVER act like what I see on the streets of Houston from the illegals.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I am not here working my rear off in this country to pay for Mexico's lack of responisbilty.

You're right. There are incredible problems here, as a result of Mexican immigrants. That fact is undeniable.

And there are steps that could - and should - be taken to address the problems. But those steps won't be politically popular.

One step I'd suggest is to abolish this law that says if a baby is born on American soil it's automatically an American citizen.

Anchor babies are a huge problem. I have noticed that the problem here in Texas is nothing compared with the other border states. We are no where near being in danger of going bankrupt because of this.

So... on a practical level, what are some things that should - and could - be done?

Stop the programs for them. Plain and simple stop them. There is a school district here that has a pre-K program BUT only for illegals in their school district. Not one parent who pay the outrageous taxes to keep that district running can use this. They have also made special classes for them so they can learn in Spanish. Again, why should I pay for that.

Send them back anytime they are in trouble even with a traffic violation and shut down our borders.

I believe we have passed law here that they can't even get a driver's liscense here. There are also towns all over starting to mandate criminal consequences for hiring illegals and or allowing them to rent homes. Here it's becoming Spanish unfriendly on many levels. It is becoming law to speak English and English only.

Parson....friend

Here there are many who would gladly pay for it out of our pockets.

We started as a joke the build a wall around Texas. The money went to charity but millions came in for it. Not sure about other states but I don't doubt this state would do it.

I haven't made fun of you and I have not belittled you...

I do find it ironic that someone who lives half a world away feels he can tell Americans how to handle American problems.
Don't forget that the majority (soon to be lost though) of Americans is originally from "half a world" away....
The illegal immigration problem is simply a matter of law.

What law???

What law was respected when:
1. The Europeans robbed the land of the Amer-indians. (who knows who they robbed it from too.)
2. When some of those robbed the land from the British and called it the US.
3. When the Spaniards robbed and annexed Mexico and parts of Southern US.
4. When Mexicans robbed it from the Spaniards
5. When the Americans robbed some western and southern land from Mexico

Your number 5 is off dearie.

A big majority of the land that was annexed into America that was SW was Texas and it wasn't stolen from them.

Come to think of it so is your 2. Revolution for the betterment of it's people is NOT stealing.

Depends on which side you're on: the stealer or the stealee....

Just wait till a new revolution comes to Texas and you will call it stealing....

I don't think you're objective.

rolling eyes icon where it is...

You obvisoulsy don't know Texas history to say that. Over half of the fighters for our independence were Hispanic.

As for the other point...you know you keep spinning your wheels. I am just going to laugh over here at the stupidity.

So what? That's not the point. Independence it was they were after: that meant transgressing existing law.

Of course...

Ah, if one gets betterment out of it, it is not stealing?

So, what is your argument then against illegal immigration?

My question, Holdon, is "How long are we going to hold onto that 'They stole the land' argument?"

The Muslims are using it as an excuse to hate Israel. Anti-Americans are using it as an excuse to hate the United States.

But nobody is honest enough to go beyond the point in history where their "pet people" had the land taken from them.

How far back are you going to go? And more importantly, what's the point?

Of course everybody uses this argument. And to the extend that you entertain the idea of "property", various claimants to the same property will challenge that.

If you step into your neighbors car, does it make it yours? Maybe after you have driven it for 1 year, 2 years, 10 years???

With respect to global territory, there is no "title insurance". So, whoever is the strongest can wrestle and bully the others out of it. So, who gives you the right to say "this is my land" and you cannot come here? Answer: no higher authority does so. (unless you recognize the UN as higher authority; but then you would also have to submit to their free circulation of people principle and allow the immigrants....)

The bottom line is: you apply your own "law" to a territory of your own (one sided) claims so as to exclude others to come there. Hence the issue of illegal immigration.

Now, we as christians are to obey the law of civil authorities. But whether those laws are right is quite another matter....

They are breaking US Law and constantly breaking US law

Or are you such a person that laws are of no use.
