Question. When God gave his laws, did he want them to be legalistic?
What was needed to work before the Church age, was not designed to work for the age where we all have been given the indwelling Holy Spirit to empower our minds. That is. Given, if one is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do we put oats in our car's gas tank? That was for horses.
Yet, baby Christians, until they can walk (by faith). Since they are yet carnal? Do need law to keep them from crawling into traffic.
But, morality is not the same as what encompassed the Law as the Jews were under. Normally, baby Christians need only to go under moral law. But, not all the Law (sabbath keeping, etc). For many people in today's societies have already grown up under moral law. Only primitive and immoral ones need to have the moral law hammered home with them. Then, the Spirit will take over if they truly desire to grow. Then "virtue" will eventually replace the need to think in terms of morality.
Christian virtue is the state of becoming rich in God's Word. Rich to the extent that you might not even know you were being presented by a temptation, because the Truth that has taken you over in you, makes what the temptation is seem insignificant.
But, until God can bring us to the strength of power grace over our weaknesses, moral law shall prevail in the faithful ones to keep themselves clean.
The Truth will make us free. Transforms us into very relaxed and happy people. No longer uptight types when confronted by evil.
