I don't recall where Jesus made a point of trying to convince anyone of anything ... other than of God's love for them ... and their need for God.
Can anyone help to jog my memory ?
I agree. It isn't our job to convince people. That would be an unfair requirement, since we can only control ourselves. But, it is our job to present the Truth, just like Jesus did and just like He commissioned all of us to do.
Jesus said: "Go you therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...." (Matt 28"19-20).
So, if people are necessarily caught in deception necessitating "teaching them" doesn't "love for your neighbor" extend to trying to help them break free of deception they don't know they are bound under?
