I want to know about people's Bibles. Sometimes when I'm searching for things to write for I come up with these questions to ask people, so here is one. What version it is, how much did it cost, is it a normal Bible or something special, like a study Bible, thin-line, a big boomer or what, does it have a special cover, is it falling apart, how long have you had it, and anything else that defines the Bible you couldn't part from. I know some of us have more than one, but please for lengths sake, just describe your favorite one.

Well, I've got two Bibles, one ESV and one NIV (when I need to check alternative translations, I usually use E-Sword). My favorite is the ESV. It's a small pocket Bible. I've had it for about a year and a half now. It isn't fancy by any means, but it does have a curious image on the front cover. Thus far I haven't been able to tell if it's meant to be a vine, or the crown of thorns that was placed on Christ's head. Anyway, I picked it up at my church bookstore for $15. It's pretty convenient, since it's small enough that I can carry it around in my backpack or jacket when I go to class.

I have a burgandy snap cover KJV 1611 by Barbour that I carry around in my purse. I don't recall the cost, but it was inexpensive and on sale, maybe 14 dollars.

I have a NKJ that I bought like 16 years ago and most of what I know about the Bible comes from that book. It's a basic economy edition, plastic covers with leather-like texture, I think it cost around $5 or so dollars.

I also have studied out of the God's Word Translation, which I like, and the book is huge, like 12 inches high and 8 inches wide. It has a bonded leather cover and cost around $40.

I don't know where either of them are right now. I haven't opened a Bible in a long time.

My favorite is a KJV Scofield that was given to me on the first Christmas after my conversion (Dec 87, hey I guess it's gettin' old like me!) by the family I was staying with. The text has some words in parentheses with newer words (original words are in margin). It's got all my best notes in it. It is not large, so it's pretty handy but the lower part of the black cover is getting worn and soon I'll have to break out some black duct tape or something.

I like it best (though I prefer NKJV) because I can find what I'm looking for faster in there. The Scofield notes are ok and sometimes helpful though I'm no dispensationalist, but the chain reference is great.

I've bought two other "major" bibles in the past 10 years--a New Geneva Study Bible NKJV (now called "Reformation" Bible. It's the Calvinist Version ) and a Thompson Chain Reference NKJV but I seem to always drift back to my little Scofield.

Wish the pews had little lapdesks and we could use laptops(maybe I'll get one someday)-I do like e-sword.

The two Bibles most precious to me are the NKJV Scofield my parents gave me and my dad's KJV that he used most often. I also use my NIV quite often. I have a KJV a friend sent me from Germany. I've got a Daily Walk Bible, and I think it's a LB translation. Someone gave me a Message Bible last year, but I haven't studied it much. And I recently got an NRSV. I really can't remember what anything cost. I try to keep them all in good shape, but the NIV is kind of falling apart.

Right now when I'm carrying a hard copy I'm using a First Edition NET. It's about $30 from bible.org.

Normally when I'm teaching my adult Sunday School class I take my laptop and have e-sword running. In addition to multiple bibles, it lets me set bookmarks as well as have dictionaries and other aids to questions that come up all ready to go. The class flows better that way.

I'd have to say my computer is the one I wouldn't be without, but there are places it just doesn't work well. Like during sermons.

I use 3 Bibles.

One is a ratty paperback of the NIV study Bible which the first 5 books have fallen out and I've had to tape back into place.

One is a leather bound NIV that I use on Sunday's to Teach/Preach from.

One is the Message which I do my "recreational" reading from.

The older I get, the smaller the print gets in my Bibles, so I keep getting larger ones. Then they are heavy. My favorite is my Recovery Version Holy Bible. It is footnoted and a nice leather bound one that was about $80. It is cracked along the spine a bit though. That always happens to the Bibles I use the most. I must be doing something wrong to them. I used to carry around my American Standard Version 1901 version, but now the print is too small. Last year I got a Giant Print New American Standard Version Bible for my husband - I think it was around $35. I may start using that if he will share or else get one for myself. We have lots of different Bible versions and I use different ones at different times for different purposes. I like the Amplified New Testament and refer to that a lot too.

I have many versions but my newest editions are my favourites. I use to like my NIV Study Bible but now I am most impressed with my NASB Life Application Bible and my NKJV Spirit Filled Bible. However I use a NLT at times also. The NKJV and the NASB were roughly $50 a hit. I have a RSV my dad used at his High School from 1952, it's had the tape treatment.

My favorite Bible is an old red leather covered, KJV 1611 that my Daddy used to preach out of when I was a little girl......in fact, when I was 9 years old he led me to Jesus in the pages of that book. I have no idea what it cost - I believe it was a gift to him from his Mother.

The one I use is just like the one my Daddy used up until he went to heaven 8 years ago. A burgundy leather KJV 1611 (Nelson) that came from his 'daddy in the ministry' Dr. J. Harold Smith.

The one I use the most is a KJV Nelson study Bible, it is big and heavy and battered and marked now. It cost about $120 AUS.

the other one I use is the New World Translation, because I am used ot it so I do comparisons now and search out the original language to see if the words have been altered.

I use the NIV study bible, blue leather cover, given to me as a gift. has pen marks and pages folded all thoughout so i can go back and look at what i need...a little worn.
i also have a KJV & something called the Book do not know where i got that...and the jerseulem bible.although i pretty much am NIV study.

I have noted how Muslims revere their Koran and treat it with utmost care/dignity and I believe Christians should also treat their Bibles in the same manner.
So I searched high and low for a really good leather bound bible and could only find a genuine top-grain leather NIV Quest study Bible.
I would love to get hold of a carved leather Bible. Anyone know who makes these?

Well I know I can find one...ooh there's one...on the floor again, hidden amongst the clothes scatter throughout the room. Both nightstands are fully occupied at the moment, so I need to set it somewhere that's close so I can reach for it as I wind down at night.

It's an average size, width with a sort of quilted cover with a mod podge of different fabrics, none the same length or shape. Although holding together nicely, the cover is frayed and dirty. The bible inside doesn't look much better. Although Leviticus and some other rarely viewed books may be in excellent condition, the well used areas are showing there age. Turn the page and you may find a small pea-sized hole below the page number. Other pages covered with dirt, some bearing the signature of the dog who tended to interupt during the deepest of studies. Still others are folded and crumpled. And yes, that is a warped page, breakfast lept out of my bowl that day His Word was so moving.

Yes the first is my favorite. New King James. I don't remember quite what brought me to that version. But I remember the day I got it. I had just gotten a job somewhere, mayber the fast food place. Anyway I wen to the Christian bookstore. I looked at so many, I wanted neither an insanely heavy one, nor an incredibly small one. If I remember right it was the side notes I liked, and the q&a in the front. I think I must've paid 60 dollars for it. But I didn't put the cover on it until later.

It must've been at least months after before I realized the cover would fit. It was a cover my mom made for my graduation Bible from the church I grew up in. It must've taken my mother all of 15-20 minutes to make it. It's got a black and teal southwestern type pattern, with neon green plaid, neon pink plaid, and neon orange with black stripes, and some other random bright strips of color. The handles were made from strips of the same scraps of material. When the stuffing began peaking from rips in the handles, my lack of sewing skill lead me to a bit of vet wrap I had lying around. It now holds the stuffing in, and the neon pink wrap goes well. However vet wrap collects dirt much faster than the cover does.

Now the second bible is a bit of a contrast. Not only is it not lying on the floor but it is brand-spankin' new. And it is thin, very thin. It has no custom made cover, just the standard leather. NIV was not my idea, but I was told that for bible study (an organized bible study from a book) it would be that much easier. So I caved and bought the cheapest NIV for $20. It even came in a box. It does have a concordance which my NKJV does not. Same bookstore as the other. It is sitting on the counter in the kitchen, nicely placed above some Bible study guides.

Ok so maybe I over did it on the description, but during all this describing I have been hearing small noises which I ignored. However I have suddenly discover a small tree frog lose in my bedroom. Hmmm....aparently the turtle enclosure won't do the trick....Hmmm....

NKJV - The Reformation Study Bible. I've had it a little around 3 years. It has a maroon leather cover, lots of study helps, some room for personal notes. I really like it a lot. I bought it on line from Christianbook.com (I think) and it was around $70.

My daughter has a NIV from her middle school days she still uses. Because it was for school we just got an inexpensive paperback. Over the years the cover has gained more and more duct tape to hold it together (I think it's solid tape now). I've offered to buy her a new Bible, one with a nice leather cover - but she keeps telling me no, she likes that one.
