Probably more than 70% now as the literalists are trending downwards but how many are leaving the faith altogether from this group I don't know.I wonder if it is still 70%. It would be interesting to know the demographics of the leavers. (And there was a Exodus conversation this week that I was thinking of elsewhere on CF.)
I'm a little surprised. The gap between those times was one of growth of the evangelical church (not the evangelische kirke, mind you) in the US at the expense of the "mainline" protestants primarily. I must be overestimating the fraction of evangelicals that are fundamentalists.Probably more than 70% now as the literalists are trending downwards but how many are leaving the faith altogether from this group I don't know.
How could I forget the Exodus episode.
If I was a citizen of your country I would be in the 70% of Christians where the Bible is not a literal account, and as a historical source can only be valid if supported by archeological evidence.
I'm sure most of the 70% would think the same way.
As has been pointed out by various posters you violate your Prime Directive frequently without realizing it.
Actually there is no science
in creationism but otherwise
the description is correct. If
by "people" you mean creatioists.
Though in general they need faith, not
evidence.
And some of the more astute realize
there never will be any.
What I'm not understanding is how can science be against creation when it opens a window into the creation process.
Yet it is the process you deny. The answer is in your question, and you don't even realize it.
See if you can find it.
Hint: It's in your word choice. One single word you used gives it away.

How many times does it need to be explained to you Exodus is not the evidence. If the Exodus didn't occur as documented, tell me.
How did the Israelites get into the desert in the first place?
Good grief you have violated your prime directive in this very thread. In your dreams.
Your quote in red tows the prime directive line where the Bible prescribes death for adultery and fornication.AV wrote.
I don't feel qualified to discuss Old Testament law.
Some of them were done away with in this dispensation; some weren't.
These triangles you're bringing up are not my area of expertise.
Deuteronomy 22:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
Looks consensual to me.
So if I was Moses, I would order both of them to die.
Deuteronomy 22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
Verdict: Death; Reason: Consensual.
Deuteronomy 22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
Verdict: Death of the man, not the woman.
In today's dispensation, I don't know.
I'm for the death penalty for rapists; but adultery and fornication need a lesser punishment.
How many times does it need to be explained to you Exodus is not the evidence.
The evidence comes from the archaeology which is zero of two million Israelites roaming the Sinai for forty years.
Good grief you have violated your prime directive in this very thread.
From post #356.
Your quote in red tows the prime directive line where the Bible prescribes death for adultery and fornication.
You then violate the prime directive highlighted in green by stating adultery and fornication require a lesser punishment.
Incidentally killing everyone who commits adultery and fornication is a very extreme method of population control.
This is like you talking to someone, but not me.My point exactly, you impulsively made the peasant honest, and the landlord greedy, as if one inevitably entails the other... stop doing that. They're just people being people. Of course you can look around and find examples of rich people being greedy, and poor people being honest, because that's the way you envision them from the outset. So you'll see the evil in one and overlook it in the other.
STOP DOING THAT, or the world will continue to do what it's always done... judge that person as good, and that person as evil simply because of their religion, or their skin color, or their ethnicity, or their sexuality, or their political affiliation... and on, and on, and on without end. The only way that you can stop it, is to simply learn to understand, tolerate, accept, and forgive.
I realize that that's asking a lot. It's hard, and it's stupid, and it's doomed to failure, but loving thy neighbor didn't come with a promise that it would be easy.
The remains of large campsites, for one.
Ingenious speculation, but I trust archaeologists to know something real about how ancient campsites like that can be detected.Fair enough.
Thanks for that example.
Let's test that scientifically, shall we?
Go anywhere in America and build a large campsite that houses one-tenth of the population that entered the Sinai Peninsula (200,000).
Leave it behind for ... say ... one tenth of the time they wandered in the wilderness (4 years).
Come back in four years, and see if you can find a trace of your large campsite anywhere.
My point is that the Amalekites, the elite desert warriors, would have picked clean anything the Israelites left behind.
Including the Israelites, if they could have.
Ingenious speculation, but I trust archaeologists to know something real about how ancient campsites like that can be detected.
