I agree. I always post the context of verses with a verse or two before and after.I think people quote random scripture in isolation without considering the whole message. It is true you must read the Bible as a cohesive whole. Then they run into trouble answering questions put to them
BTW
Justification of observing law does not allow for failure. Perfect obedience or no justification:
For whoever keeps the whole law yet stumbles at JUST ONE POINT is guilty of breaking all if it
James 2:10
Gal3:10&11 states in effect the same
How narrow is narrow? It's not what I say that matters, it's what Jesus said. The road is narrow.
The to whom much is expected is about the saved. The road is narrow to the unsaved. How can we know? God judges. We do know that he is just and that to whom much is given much is expected.
It's what you haven't said that is revealing! And it seems your road is not quite so narrow as you made outIt's not what I say that matters, it's what Jesus said. The road is narrow.
Well you are not enduring very well under the law are you! Much of it appears to pass you byThat's why we need repentance and the confession of our sins. That doesn't mean we can return to a life of unrepentant sin and still expect salvation. Scripture is quite clear, only those who endure will be saved.
Well you are not enduring very well under the law are you! Much of it appears to pass you by
No I'm not. You may say justification is obeying Christs commands. You conflate the Jewish Law with obedience to Jesus. That's not the same thing.
No I'm not. You may say justification is obeying Christs commands.
However, that is just making empty statements that have no bearing on the reality of your life.
It doesn't bring forth any meaningful discussion
Now you are backtracking. When I asked you what justification entailed you quoted Jesus words:I said no such thing.
Salvation is by grace through faith and works. Grace enables us to please God, but it doesn't force us to.
Heb 12:14
Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Now you are backtracking. When I asked you what justification entailed you quoted Jesus words:
If you love me obey my commandments
Well obviously you don't think you have to obey Jesus in regards to obeying his individual commands do you, for you don't even try to obey many of themWe can't obey Jesus without grace, but that doesn't mean we don't have to obey Jesus.
I'm not backtracking, you are just making too many assumptions in order to defend your dogma.
And I made no assumptions, just stated what you response with to my questionWe can't obey Jesus without grace, but that doesn't mean we don't have to obey Jesus.
I'm not backtracking, you are just making too many assumptions in order to defend your dogma.
Let's go through some of them one by oneYes, I do try to obey the commands of Jesus. Don't you?
Are you saying you only have to obeyJesus commands some of the time not all of the time?I have before. Haven't you?
