Yes, and the irony of "values voters" marching behind him in lockstep is not lost on any of us.

One thing is for certain, Trump isn't attacking Christians or going on a world tour to apologize on behalf of Christians for holding to their Christian values.

Since no other president has done that I'm not sure what your point is.

That's just it. The vision of America cherished by the right-wing religious extremists is not the America the rest of us want to see made great again.

Trump isn't attacking Christians or going on a world tour to apologize on behalf of Christians for holding to their Christian values.

The electoral college map is not a very nuanced or sophisticated way of making a political argument. There are a myriad of factors that go into why a state goes for a president. In 1980 you had a charismatic actor and pitch man with a Hollywood writing staff and Lee Atwater sounding dog whistles vs. a straight shooter who wasn't very sophisticated when it came to the media and wasn't glib.

All that said, "the Left" certainly didn't support Reagan, though I can see why you're confused about that. The right has convinced it's members that anyone as or more "liberal" than Richard Nixon is "a Leftist" or on "the Left".

Well, my response to you is the same one I provided in post #41. I will also ask you the same question I asked another individual. What if I told you that the slogan "Hope and Change" was offensive because it is symbolic of "Black Power" and "Black Supremacy"? What if I told you that the Obama campaign brought out the worse in a lot of people I know? That it was a symbol that promoted the black nationalism that would finally turn the tide putting blacks in power over whites? Would you find such a response reasonable? Do you think is would be appropriate for me to be so offended by such a person wearing an Obama campaign hat that I should attack them for it? Do you think I should have immediately labeled them as "Black Nationalists" and dump drinks on their heads while they were peacefully eating their meal at a restaurant? Or as a restaurant owner, should I have banned them from my establishment for wearing an Obama hat?

Instead, when someone wore an Obama hat, I just kept to myself or asked them why they supported Obama's policies. Was I wrong for doing that?

If you told me any of that I'd tell you that you were living in a delusional fantasy world.

I think America will become Great Again when it stops becoming offended and all bent out of shape over someone merely saying, "Make America Great Again!" If a great number of the public slide into a panic mode and becomes unhinged one someone says it then they've set aside the things that made America Great....to have the FREEDOM and LIBERTY to say just some simple basic words.

Yeah! Next thing you know people will slide into panic mode and become unhinged if a Muslim is elected to Congress or if people say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas".

It's not about feeling offended so much as recognizing you shouldn't make prejudicial and at least questionable racist statements about people.

Because people who wear the hat usually respects the rule of law and wants minorities and all types of immigrants to LEGALLY have a place in their society.

Among other things, the Reagan era is where we began to explode the national debt. Which is why it's extremely humorous that, for a long time, Republicans claimed to be the party of fiscal responsibility.

And the great transfer of wealth upwards. The rising tide lifted all boats, just some boats more than 95% of others.

I've always thought that America was great and been thankful that I was born here. There is room for improvement but it's better than in the past.

20 year old me never felt more self-satisfied in college than when my German WWII vet political science professor appreciated my response to a question he posed about the phrase, "working today for a better tomorrow". I noted that even if today was great, we can always work to make it better. America hasn't not been great for many decades and even longer if we take race relations out of the equation. That we are and have been great doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to make it greater.
