Paul told us to avoid buying Idol Meat (1 Cor 8) because it funds heretical behavior. See also Eph 5:11.
For the clearest explanation - see this post:

You know, if you could sic a PI on every company in existance to dig the dirt you wouldn't buy anything. Ever.
I agree it would not have many of the big national names. But there are plenty of smaller local companies that have a clear conscience. That's why I'm asking for peoples assistance/contributions on alternatives.

And if some of the larger ones are made to see the error of their ways, maybe they and others will repent.

If every Christian would stick together, there would quite possibly be a lot of new business opportunities! :)
I'm pretty sure that Paul didn't want us to do that. Secondly, we already have that. Christian music, Christian selfhelp, Christian dating, Christian stores, Christian yoga, it's all just one gigantic moneymaking scheme.

So what if Ford supports gay rights? Our government kills innocent people! Should we ignore every company just because they support that which we don't? Here's a hint. You'd have nothing left.

Two books every Lutheran should read on how Christians relate to the world and the culture around them:

Christ & Culture, H. Ruchard Niebuhr
The Spirituality of the Cross, G. E. Vieth

Boycotts are for fundamentalists, not Lutherans.

Paul told us to avoid buying Idol Meat (because it funds heretical behavior). /quote]

Your Bible clearly has in it some verses that mine does not. Can you tell me where Paul tells peole not to eat meat that had been previously offered to idols?

Two books every Lutheran should read on how Christians relate to the world and the culture around them:

Christ & Culture, H. Ruchard Niebuhr
The Spirituality of the Cross, G. E. Vieth

Boycotts are for fundamentalists, not Lutherans.

I quite disagree and would venture to say M. Luther would too, for he revered the letters of Paul above even the synoptic gospels.

And in them Paul tells us to 'boycott' idol meat. (1Cor8) Which is what I intend to do. It is not necessarily because there is anything inherrently evil about a steak, a Ford car, or a Jet-Puffed Marshmallow (which is the message of 1Cor10), but it is about setting a good example. There are many people out there who see the actions of these companies, and the events, and programs they sponsor and think "Oh, I guess it's o.k. Hmm, all these companies are sponsoring this Pride Parade - I guess homosexuality is really o.k. afterall - those Christians are just a bunch of killjoy's"

I don't think that way, and maybe you don't either, I know what the Bible teaches is right and wrong, but I have heard what Paul says about setting an example for others. Similarly, I have Christian friends who don't drink. Personally I do, once in a while, but to the extent that it sets a bad example - or offends other Christians - I should resist - and I do try.

Furthermore, it is my earnings, and I can do with it as I choose, and if I or any other Christian choose to prefer buying products from companies which do not actively contradict our Christian beliefs - why should we not do so?

As a Christian consumer (and investor) in a capitalist society drenched in apostacy - it is my duty to spend and invest in ways that do not further the apostacy. Think about it - these companies are sponsoring organizations which are trying to tempt MY children into sin. They are paying for the insidious crap which gets put on television. They are subsidising pornography with their advertisement. This is not about companies pursuing market segmentation strategies. This is about protecting our children.

Christ tells us that the eye is the lamp of the body, the window through which outward light may shine,
But when through it only darkness passes, our heart's fruits wither on the vine.
In other words, being bombarded by heresies can make us vulnerable to them.
Maybe not you, but don't you care about the millions of developping Christians who are?
The sins that the parent (and society) tolerate, the children embrace.

It is not an easy thing to observe a boycott - and I certainly do not condemn anyone for not doing so. But telling people not to vote their conscience with their wallets, is wrong. I encourage you to re-think your position.

I feel really sorry for all those employees you'll be leaving without a job.

Boycotting is cutting off yours hand to cure your headache.

i dont think so, companies ultimately are affected by one thing, the bottom line.

i like to support companies who i think are responsible and do the right thing.

if enough people feel this way, companies will change their policies.

so i actually agree that ford's sales should be impacted by what they fund politically.

i just happen to like that they are gay friendly though.

Boycotting Ford has been proven fruitless though. As they keep giving to homosexual causes even though organizations like AFA keep trying to drag them down. So either it's not working or Ford is a very firm wall. I'm against boycotting either way. It's a long painful process to get anything done generally and you typically end up leaving innocent people without a job in smaller lots before any effect takes in.

I'm all for boycotts for certain reasons,
but this list is so big, wouldn't it be more helpful to have a list to only to buy from, I think that this list would be shorter, I'm not knocking this at all, but I find it's more helpful saying only buy from these companies because they have christian values and if they are not the list people won't buy, a big list only gets people to throw up there hands and say there's nothing I can do it's every where and they boycott fails. this is just my 2 cents
