  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why evolution should not be a religious issue

The problem with those particular sources is not that they are religious, but that they are propaganda, attempting to create an implausible, easily refuted "straw man" version of the theory of evolution. They also suffer from the same fault as you sometimes do, assuming that anyone who differs in any particular with their theology is an atheist who wants to attack religion.
You cite pro-evolutionist atheist sources.

Oh! Ok! No problem!

I see that went over your head. Just because a person embraces reality does not mean that they hate religion. Therefore you must be the one that hates religion. Perhaps if you would not be so quick to make false accusations against others you could debate more properly.

No, he merely cites science based sources. They are not "pro-evolutionist atheist" sources.

How does embracing the truth make one anti-Christian? That is the strangest accusation that I have ever heard.

So what? None of them systematically misrepresent what the theory of evolution claims. No, if you are going to argue effectively against the theory of evolution, you are going to have to argue against the real thing, not some straw man erected by a creationist ministry.

Suppose I came up to you and said, "Christianity is a stupid religion. Christians believe that Jesus was an Olympic figure skater and that we're all going to Heaven on ice skates. Isn't that silly?" What would your reaction be? What would you think of the anti-Christian website I got that from?

Now you know how we feel about the sources you cite.

Any source provided will be unceremoniously tagged as worthless so one source is as good as another.
If it's just someone saying how much they want a God to be real or how God has affected their lives it's meaningless, you could get the same words and stories from a Muslim or a Mormon, would you believe a Muslim or a Mormon about the likely hood of their Gods existence? if all every God needs is faith to believe in them then every God is as real and as likely as the next.

I used to have a cartoon panel that did just that. Though the protagonist tried to state that "you believe that Jesus turned into three monkeys and wore a robe" or something on that order. It would probably be called "sacrilegious" here so I won't link it. The point was that it is incorrect to state the beliefs of others incorrectly. If one does not understand then one should ask questions.

^_^ -- Oh, man.

This is just solid aurum to the max!

This has got to be post-of-the-year.

I ... Mr. YEC, Omphalos, Last Thursday, everything but Embedded Age ... should make it my signature.

But I won't.

You keep stating that those are your beliefs. You apply labels to them because you don't like your beliefs. Last Thursdayism is an Embedded Age belief.

No.

You guys keep stating they are my beliefs.

It seems that you keep saying that they are your beliefs. Or do you just not have any explanation for the fact that the Earth tells us through various pieces of evidence that there was no flood?

You are the last person that should ever be criticizing the beliefs of any other memebers here.

I have seen logic discarded as if it were worthless and evidence dismissed regardless of validity. It isn't worth the time to debate in detail.

I am not going to argue against the evolution idea because the evolutionist reaction is a foregone conclusion..

This is a typical excuse of creationists. Logic is not on your side.

No, it is a "foregone conclusion" because it is the only side supported by scientific evidence. But then most creationists simply won't even let themselves understand the nature of evidence.

I did substantiate it, then I was very clear on asking you how you see my comment as a false claim, but it's also clear you are not going to answer.

If you want to go into it I will clearly do so more deeply. Another false claim on your part.

Once again, the point was, anyone stating evolution is fact over what the Bible teaches, is saying the bible is not true. So, in turn, some of us who believe the Bible to be true, must conclude, to say evolution is fact is not telling the truth.

It would be better to say that the Bible is simply incorrect in this matter. And your belief that the Bible can be read literally is simply an errant one. Science does not disprove God, it only shows certain errors in the Bible.

My guess as to why you don't answer? Because that fact is so elementary, they're just isn't any refuting it. I can go back and change the wording to my post if you are going to dwell on that instead of the issue, and then see what happens. Think I'll do that.

Fine, ask your question more properly and we will see how it goes.

I agree it's all mythical nonsense from start to finish, the next best thing to evidence is faith in fact it's so popular every religion in the world swears by it.
