JoD is the Journal of Discourses. It isn't a standard work but they sometimes quote it. Brigham Young thought God was Adam. That stuff is in there.
The Journal of Discourses (often abbreviated J.D.) is a 26-volume collection of public sermons by early leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The first editions of the Journal were published in England by George D. Watt, the stenographer of Brigham Young.

I own the set and at least some, if not all, is online.
HC = History of the Church. I also own that 6- volume set.
Teachings = Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Of course, I own that book and many, many more.
Are all Mormons expected to read all of that stuff?
Have you read it, Dr. Steve?
Yes, many years ago I bought & read a copy. Does show the contrast between Mormonism and the Nicene Christians of that Day.
What I find amazing is that in the information age, hearsay and gossip are sound bases for "educated" decision-making, at least judging by how flippantly they are employed for just that. It seems that "innocent until proven guilty" is as antiquated in society today as is the Bill of Rights. Indeed, no greater disruption to our nation could occur today than a wholesale epiphany that reality TV isn't "history in the making," but just entertainment!TheBarrd said:The true story behind David Ebershoffs bestseller The 19th Wife!
At the age of 24, Ann Eliza Webb was forced into marriage with Brigham Young, her spiritual leader and the 67-year-old president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. By her own count, she was his 19th wife. Less than five years later, she filed for divorce on the grounds of neglect, cruel treatment, and desertion and shocked the tight-knit Mormon community by winning the case. Excommunicated from the church, she traveled the country, speaking out against polygamy and Mormonism, and becoming an early advocate for womens rights in 19th century America. In this autobiography, dedicated to the Mormon Wives of Utah, she published a devastating exposé of the privation, cruelty and violence that were a constant part of their lives. Her story was an immediate best-seller, and remains a gripping read to this day.
That quote is from the Amazon web site, where you can buy the ebook for $2.51.
So, old BY married a girl young enough to be his grand daughter? He abused his wives?
This is the kind of leader Mormonism names it's college after?
Amazing...
So an autobiography by a wife of BY is hearsay and gossip?
Ah, Dr Steve don't you know by now that if something is not in the standard works it is not authoritative, especially if it is something that is no longer fashionable unless of course it is favorable to LDS?
I have. It lost its credibility, to me, before I even finished the first chapter, owing primarilythough not exclusivelyto the author's overt and offensive cynicism (offensive because I prefer fact over emotion, history over imagination; not because it was profane or vulgar).Have you read it, Dr. Steve?
LOL, have you read the book?So an autobiography by a wife of BY is hearsay and gossip?
Are all Mormons expected to read all of that stuff?
No, they don't have time until their kids are grown. You're supposed to give time, talents, and money to build up the church. Those who attended BYU or another church sponsored college in Hawaii or Idaho, may have covered a lot of that information. I don't know because I wasn't able to attend a Mormon university or college.
You teach a class, attend Sacrament Meeting, Sunday School, Priesthood for men, Relief Society for women, Home Teaching once a month for men (sometimes couples) with an appointment, Visiting Teaching (two women assigned to visit a few other women --- usually without notice), recreational activities, preparing meals for invalids and women who've just given birth, and for special dinners at church, have your food storage and a place to store it, do temple work and genealogy, have Family Home Evening every Monday, etc. One convert told me that she lamented the fact that she had no time to relax.
Let all anger and bitterness be put away from true Christians.
May we remember our Lord Jesus is resurrected and coming again soon.
Still in the glow of yesterdays wonderful messages.....
Hope you all consider me a Christian, I love you all and think of you as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Thank God I was born into a family that took it's faith in God for granted and didn't have to always be pushing it...
We kids were allowed to explore our faith on our own. There was no pressure at all.
