If everyone says that they know that their is more to rap than the mainstream garbage they hear. Why are all the posts continually looking the same. Every time some says something its
-I dont like rap because they only talk about bling bling and shootouts
-I dont like it because its not a real artform
-I dont think rap is really poetry
Or the worst posts of all of them
-Rap just sucks (With no explanation)

Seriously many of you must have already been programmed to say that rap is stupid, either because you have heard very little and wont listen to some real rap music. Or that you simply dont understand what you hear so you say anything that you dont understand must suck.

I don't like modern rap music. All of it is bad, supporting the use of drugs, sex, etc. I can stand some rap from the 80's, which is called old school rap. But all this gangster rap, and the demoralizing of society (kids in general) morals is why I hate rap music.

I'm sure this has probably already been posted somewhere in the last 15 pages of this thread, but i'm not reading all that: But you guys do know that there are a lot of Christian rap artists, right? Some pretty dang god ones too.
And "gangsta rap" is kinda gone now. I've been a rap fan for many years now, and most of the kill kill murder murder is kinda fading out. Some is still there, but not like it used to be.

Are people just going to post this type of junk? Are people going to continually show that they know nothing of the music?? Are people going to continue to hate what they dont understand??? Or are people just willingly ignorant and dont care????

Although I respect your "passion" and piousness:

I am willingly hating rap music as the MAJORITY of it has ZERO talent or artistic value, in fact if you look at the "beats" and back ground most of it comes from different songs, ( not original), youre right I dont understand rap music as they sound like mush mouths screaming into a micro-phone, i dont care at all about rap, So to answer your questions:
1) YES
2)Thats your opinion,
3) I think its more like loathe.
4)willingly iggnorant? kind of a strong allegation isnt it?

I'm a musician and personally I think that rap is a sub-species of music. It may require talent (the kind I don't have), but so does standing on your head. It may be expressive, but so is poetry. I would think of rap and hip hop as more poetry than music, b/c it is so expressive of a culture and of a lifestyle. The major problem I have with rap is that it doesn't use the lanuage of music. Music has a language and that's not to say that its Africian roots isn't music, but rap has evolved into something that doesn't use the lanuage of music. No notes, no music, just an artifically produced beat with someone shouting out a few lines of poetry. Sorry in my book that doesn't count as much of music. I'm not saying I hate rap. There is some rap and hip hop that I actually enjoy, but that doesn't make it music.
There are a lot of my fellow musicians who agree with me, but there are also some musicians who don't agree with me. Anyone is welcome to agrue with me. My English class freshmen year nearly took my head off when I stated my opinion.

Agreed. There's some enjoyable rap, but that's a pretty well true statement.

I am sure there is some good rap music, but its not in the main stream. I am not going to go out of my way to find good rap music when I dont even want to listen to the original stuff in the first place.

And to Trizm who quoted me, BLESSEDBETHEMEEK pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

I posted this thread so that maybe someone would take their time out to listen and learn and maybe love something new. Sorry if I sounded harsh to anyone, but I said that people were willingly ignorant simply because I and a couple others who posted here, tried to show everyone a different side of rap that maybe they would like, and they rejected it on basis that are many times uneducated and false. People didnt want to believe anything else and even after telling people about rap they simply dont care because they already stubbornly think it is stupid. I was simply trying to give someone maybe a different look to show everyone rap isnt what they depict it to be on MTV. Think about it, if rap was such a horrible form of music why is it one of the biggest forms of music today, why do millions of people listen and love it, why can so many people find value in the music. If this fell on deaf ears then oh well, I guess some just cant be helped, some just wont even listen.

Trizm has some good points. Music and melody can be found in most rap that I have heard. I think that the general public shuns/stereotypes many genres due to a lack of knowledge. When it comes down to it, I'd much rather listen to certain rappers than cookie-cutter metal, emo, or rock groups that may have 'great' musical talent.

Admittedly I haven't listened to all rap that exists. However, I'd challenge you to find one that I liked.
I like music, which most rap doesn't contain - it contains a backup, usually uninteresting and repetitive. I also like display of musical talent, which is hard to find in this genre. Try getting a rap artist to do a blinding riff or make drums sound like an engine. Note that I don't like a lot of metal, either.

Another obvious reason that I don't like rap is that it just doesn't have lyrics that speak to me (no pun intended). This is probably also big reason why a lot of people don't like metal.

It's arrogant, obnoxious, talentless, musical retarded, womanizing dribble! The slang is moronic. How anyone can be so lazy as they can't say a whole world and must drop a few letters for no reason is beyond me.

I know about rap. Rap is ment to express suffering. To express the hardships of the rapper. But most of it is all cursing and talking about their...ahem...women, to put it nicely and G rated.

Rap is simply, when broken down "Retards attempting poetry". They claim you need talent to make a good rap with good lyrics and rhyme, but when you make up words like "shizzle" and "skeet" and stuff like that to rhyme, you have no talent. Making up words so you can rhyme is idiotic and sad.

A lot of people use slang. Only a ......... dude would say sumthin like dat.
