If there is one thing that drives me up the wall is the fact that people make fun and judge people for what they believe in. I know myself i have always been picked on because i believe in god and i am a christian. I mean just because my beliefs na dlifestyle is different then some people's I dont get why they have to make fun and judge!!!!

It happens to everyone. Christian, atheist, Jew, Muslim. I don't know why people do it, but it usually stops after the teenage years. Maybe it's because some of us just stop talking about those things which make us different. :sigh:

I am in a college also and the minute said outloud in a debate what if there is no GOD the room looked like they were going to kill and I go to a very liberal school in NYC. It goes both way. Everyone gets craps from someone about their beliefs perhaps you need to stop identifying yourself as a christian and let people know you for who you are.

But there's no outward sign that someone is a Christian, you have to do something so they know. What is it that you do?

That's fine that you are a christian but it depends on how you approach others. My best friend is a christian but she never once told me I was wrong about my beliefs and the person she was interested me while one christian girl I knew last semester basically tried to push her beliefs on me and ridicule me in front of my debating class. It's a matter of respect and understanding that in the world there are chiristians and non-christisns and you have to learn to interculturally communicate. I don't know how far along in college you are but I am a junior and I can tell the higher up the scale of education you go the less likely you are to meet christians.

Well I am a non christian who doesn't drink. Thats not something that only applies to christians some people just have no respect perhaps you should find a new crowd to talk to. Most college have christian groups.

I cant just go find another crowd. This guys i will be going to school with for 3 years. They are my only friends here and if it werent for the fact that bug me about being a christian they would eb perfect ppl to be friends with. And its not like all of them do it, just a few of them.

I suggest a human communications class. There are thousands of people who you can be friends with at the average college so I don't see the harm in finding a new crowd because friends dont hurt each other.

First of all, I admire you for not being ashamed of the fact you're a Christian. I also admire the fact that you don't want to drink and stuff like that. I beleive God will reward you for that. If you want people to know you're a Christian, go ahead. That's great. Just don't try to offend them or criticize what they believe.
I'll be praying,

Lessien

They're not picking on you because you're Christian. They're picking on you because you won't join with them. To assume persecution because you're Christian seems to me to be a bit off the mark. They'd pick on you no matter what your religion if you didn't want to party with 'em. Not saying either of you is right, you're just different. And different gets picked upon.

Unfortunately it's an imporfect world, and people have a tendancy to try to tear down that which is different, especially if the other party seems threatening and/or doing better than they are.

I understand your problem. I have difficulties all of the time because of my faith in Christianity, most of my peers dislike religion outright, and any indication that I might have faith they see as a threat to them and civilized society in general.

I think part of the problem is the tendency to associate everyone in a group with one another- when some Christians act very badly, some people take it for granted that all others do the same. Or for that matter, whatever group is currently being persecuted, be it Christians or homosexuals or immigrants or whoever. But the point is that however inoffensive you try to be, you'll still be blamed for the actions of your brethren.

My suggestion is to rely on prayer. Remember the things that are really important, and just how insignificant an objection to your lifestyle will seem in the long run.

Oh yes, I'm sure it's so difficult being a Christian in a nation like ours. It's tough being "different" when only 80% of America professes to be Christian. *rolls eyes*

I can tell you right now what your problem is. You either wear your Christianity on your sleeve and announce it with a bullhorn whenever you meet with people or are otherwise obnoxious about it, or your "buddies" know that if they tease you about your religion then it'll bother you and then they'll do it more. If it's case A then all I have to say is obnoxiousness begets obnoxiousness, and if it's number two you need to realize that they are teasing you because you deliver the reaction they want. I used to get razzed all the time about not getting drunk or drinking at all and instead of flipping out I just laughed along with them and said "Yeah I don't drink, what a riot!" That was the end of it.

Your teasing has nothing to do with being different since being Christian isn't different. Your teasing has to do with the fact that your response to the teasing puts a big bulls eye on your forehead that says "I'm oversensitive, tease me."
