What you think is evidence is actually not. What you'll find is that you assume that all Muslims are evil jihadist suicide bombers who want to take over the world, and people like me tell you that you are wrong. You then assume that because we say that, we must be defending all these super-evil Muslims, when in fact we are not; we are merely pointing out that not all Muslims want you dead. You then decide that because the more right-wing Christians tend to hold this view, because we disagree with it then we are therefore attempting to oppress them, because we're not letting them be right about everything.

I consider myself a liberal, progressive, atheist, marxist, socialist communist and I support neither Islam nor Evangelical Christianity.

I put more effort into opposing Evangelical Christianity because it's more relevant to my life. I see evangelicals protesting on my street, on the news, and at the polls. If I lived in a predominantly Islamic country, I'd probably direct my efforts accordingly. Hope this helps.

Assuming it to be a fact - The reason is: "Leftists" have lived under predominately Christian/Judeo-Christian/Deist (who'd identify their deity as the Judeo-Christian one) rule . . they don't like it because the world view conflicts with theirs (sins being wrong, more freedom - less government, laws that make sense . . . you know, everything the left hates). Leftists have not lived under Islamic rule and Moslems represent a rapidly breeding voting block. Leftists also believe that if Moslems vote for them now, it is because they have supporters who are Moslem, not Moslems who will quietly climb their ranks and subbvert their party. In short, the left supports Islam because they think they can control it and use the votes.

I don't support Muslim extremists. And I would probably fall into one of these categories, depending on your definition.

So how many people who fall into these categories who report not supporting Muslim extremists will it take to change your mind on this issue?

The OP is waaay overgeneralizing, and is dead wrong about mainstream American liberals. The extremes on both left and right might have a soft spot for Islamic radicals. Extreme leftists (who are usually European and 3rd world) identify with Muslim anti-Americanism and anti-Zionism. Extreme rightists identify with Muslim anti-Semitism.

Most all American liberals are only slightly left wing (and really more centrist) by world standards. But they do tend to be skeptical of religious authority. Muslim fundamentalism is about as authoritarian as a religion can be, and is totally abhorrent to typical American liberals. Though that same attitude would also apply to authoritarian varieties of Christianity, which some (not all) Evangelicals exhibit.

But in the US/Canada, you have the Christians trying to repress gay rights, repress real science, attacking vaccinations global warming, attacking evolution and most sciences without facts and making stuff up.
