Anyone who is not a practicing Jew, is a Gentile.

Can a Person Convert to Judaism? - The Jerusalem Post

Why Judaism definition and why not this:

Romans 2:28 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. 29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

How can we say we are gentiles by that definition in Romans 2? It doesn’t say that anyone who is not practicing Judaism is a gentile. In fact it says that God does not consider one a Jew by their keeping of tradition or by ancestry, which God defines who is a real Jew and should be our standard too. Then, shouldn’t we also do so irrespective of how Judaism defines a Jew and whether or not they accept God’s definition of who a Jew is?

Some Christians assert or claim that they are gentiles. I have no idea how they come to that conclusion. The people of the nation of Israel mixed with other nations and they are spread across the world. I wonder how some people are able to trace their ancestry all the way back to the period of Genesis where all nations first started. Because I think there is no way someone can say they are gentile unless they know for sure that none of their whole ancestors ever belonged to the line of Jacob (Israel).
Gentiles are nations that do not trace their physical ancestry to the line of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and who were not in the covenant with God during the Old Testament era.

The low possibility that there is some genetic mixture with Jews in the past inside many nations do not cancel it out, because such mixtures are widely ignored and not seen as important. Maybe your ancestors had something with somebody from Japan or Zimbabwe, but how is it important for your Indian nationality, today?

I'm not in any covenant with Japan, Zimbabwe, and India. So I don't care which country I was born into or my ancestors came from. But I'm in covenant with Christ and born into Him for eternity (who came through Israel, as a Jew) which makes me a family of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That makes it important and that is my ancestry. Of course, if someone says they are gentile, this is not important for them. But if one says they are gentile they are tracing their ancestry to some nation other than Israel and I do not understand how they are able to do that without having their complete genealogy with them. Its an assumption, not exact truth.

Being in Christ makes you no more to be in family with Abraham than its making to be in family with German Christians or Swiss Christians and you can call all this "Israel".

But its not related to Jewish genetics or to the secular nation of Israel today or to judaism, therefore the surroundings you are coming from (living in) makes you to be a Christian from (Indian) Gentiles.

Please do not say who I'm. That's a request. God did not tell me which one I'm, physically, gentile or a Jew. Coming from (India) does not make me a gentile nor makes any Christian from other nations a gentile because a complete history of genealogy is not available. That remains unknown and uncertain. But what's certain is that we are all Israel, as God said it so.

You seem to be oversensitive about basic facts.

Yes, we all should be if we are sensitive to the Spirit of God. I do not know how you call me a gentile and say that it is a basic fact without knowing my genealogy. How is that a basic fact? Do my surroundings determine whether I'm a gentile or not?

As yourself agreed that there is a low possibility, why not each one consider themselves to be one among that low possibility group?

Because it will not make you any better, genetically superior or closer to God.

That is what I'm trying to understand from this thread. Why does anyone keep saying they are gentile when it does not make them any better, genetically superior or closer to God and when it does not matter?

Its true until proven otherwise.

Ok, but not God's truth which we should all care about. And no man can say which one I'm from the God's olive tree, grafted-in branch or a natural one. He alone knows that.

But, why does anyone keep saying they are gentile when it does not make them any better, genetically superior or closer to God and when it does not matter?

Abraham was not a Jew. The Egyptians who entered covenant at Sinai were not Jews; but they all became Hebrews.
After adopting Hebrew beliefs and customs. Abraham technically speaking is the first Jewish Patriarch.

So while someone can state they are gentile because their surroundings makes it a fact for them,

someone cannot consider themselves to be one among that "low possibility" group of Jewish genetics because it will not make them any better, genetically superior or closer to God.

Is that what you are saying? It clearly seems unfair reasoning. I hope you see that too.

One of my favorite verses is Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Any Christian who distinguishes between Jew and Gentile is a bigot. Any Christian who distinguishes between rich and poor is a bigot. Anyone who distinguishes between male and female is a bigot.
