Anyone know what causes gravity? Exactly? How about the strong or weak nuclear forces? How about atomic spin? Where do the forces in our universe, or part of it, come from? How did they get there, according to science? Why must they be as they are?

For Christians, the answer is obvious. God created it, and set it up that way. Intelligently designed, and set in motion.

Science knows somewhat about how physical laws work, but not what they are!

This is one reason we may not assume our laws will be here till the universe dies from them. Or that they were here at creation.

Gravitons R.I.P.

So, laws here in our physical world, and environs are set up for here and now. Not forever.

I smell a huge pile of "we don't know yet therefore god did it".

You know that is what we used to think about lightning.

EDIT:

I'd like to know what evidence you have to support that absolute conclusion (you didn't use words like "might" or "could be" so your conclusion is an absolute one, you therefore require conclusive irrefutable proof (obviously with those words in mind the bible doesn't qualify), please provide it).

For all we know it's the nature of matter.

My old theory is simply that matter is condensed universe, and gravity is simply warping of space so that things fall towards it, so if matter is condensed universe, then gravity is the stretching of the universe in that direction sort of like scrunching up a part of a trampoline into a ball so that a dent forms at that point and things fall towards it.

Science doesn't know everything everwhere with absolute certainty.... therefore, dad must tell us! God bless God's Prophet, dad!

If tomorrow Christians were to substitute "God" with "Iggy the Magic Elf," would the validity of their theory change in the slightest?

Gravity seems to be more of a property of mass rather than a separate force.

Because there is mass, there is gravity.
So it exists because of physical mass? What causes it? How about electromagnetic force, and the weak and strong nuclear nuclear forces? Should we just say they all exist because they are?

If we always assumed that something unexplained was the work of a deity, then we'd never know anything. Isn't it worth pursuing the knowledge?
Sure. So what did you come up with then? Share that knowledge of what the fundy forces are all about. Why do they have to be that way? Why are they that way?

Actually, gravity is caused by the magical powers of the Invisible Pink Unicorn (blessed be her name).

For all we know it's the nature of matter.
So, electromagnetism, and the weak and strong nuclear forces are the nature of matter. OK.

Yes? And what is your new theory?

So, gravity is space that gets bent out of shape? What is space then? Gravity that is not bent??

Unfortunately, that credulous answer is simply not true. It isn’t even based on sound evidence or sound reasoning.
So, are you suggesting that Christians do not believe that God set up present laws? Or are you suggesting that you do not know, but just refuse to accept God anywhere in any part of any explanation for any reason?

OK. So you do not know, I guess that applies to all the fundy forces?

No, I do know: Gravity, strong and weak nuclear forces and electromagnetism are all mediated by Her Holiness, the Invisible Pink Unicorn, pbuh.

If science does not even know the cause of the most fundamental forces in man's world, it is in bad shape.

I, on the behalf of scientists everywhere, apologize for not working fast enough. If you genuinely care, vote to raise taxes so we can have more research grants.

OK. I can accept it when you admit ignorance. Think about it, though, you admit not knowing anything at all about what causes the basic forces!

Let me ask you this, then, would you think that they must stay the same? I mean if you don't know where they came from, or what cause them, how could you do anything but have an uninformed opinion also about this?

The bible talks of a different nature coming soon. It appears that this may be a short thread. Already I see the white flag of surrender.
