Should we pray that The Holy Spirit will convict their hearts and bring them to repentance ?

What prayers should we specifially pray for them ?

Thanks ahead of time for your answers.
Yes, I suppose that praying the Lord bring our enemies to repentance would be in everyone's best interests.

First, forgive them, for truly, they know not what they do. Then in prayer, ask The Lord to reveal Himself in their lives. This in turn will bring them to repentance. And Lord willing, from repentance to salvation.

Pray for God to bless if you are unable.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

I often pray for the Lord to have mercy on them, and to do for them whatever He in His wisdom knows to be best for them.

My ideas of what they need when might be wrong, but God never is.

I do often especially pray for their salvation, but it's usually best to keep my assumptions about them otherwise out of the way.

As a very immature Christian I used to pray for how I thought people ought to change. I have learned it's better to pray for ME to change, and leave them to God, only wishing the best for them.

When Mother Gavrielia was about to die and the priest was about to confess her for the last time, he asked her if she forgave her enemies. Her answer was, No. And after a short pause, she added... I have no enemies. No matter what people did to her she accepted it with a positive thought, the good as a mercy from God and the bad as a test or correction on account of her sins. So she never blamed or judged anyone, except herself.

I'm saying this in case you succeed in praying for your enemies and the devil tempts you in thinking you are doing something great.

I wonder if you could accept it with a positive heart
and still think you're doing something great.

I pray that He will forgive them for they know not what they do.
(Bless them, help them etc)
I also pray that God will judge between me and my enemy, if I'm
unsure what's happened. Plus, we don't know all our enemies.
We're in a battle, a spiritual battle with wickedness in high places.
That evil can come through many sources.. I pray Psalm 35 about
the unknown enemies of my soul.
And I pray Psalm 27 often. great prayer.

It's a fair question to ask.

I'm not speaking as any expert here, but usually the learning that everything that comes is for our good and truly thanking God for it all - comes along with lessons in humility and at least some tools that help protect against being tempted to think well of one's self.

Anything is possible. But probably not very likely. And in the case of an Abbess, a lesson she would have learned long ago. Her writings are like spiritual manna.

Frankly I felt convicted by the story. I was hoping to be helpful, but I see undercurrents in my post - not to mention the fact that I was quick to reply without considering the fact that I was lumping people into an "enemy" category. The truth is, they just treated me badly at times, as happens to all of us.

Forgive me if I misspoke. Like Anastasia said, my intention was to remind the original poster that we need to do everything with humility.

Not a problem at all.
I (humbly) believe, and could be mistaken!!,
that there is such a thing as pride that masquerades
itself as humility. So that would be a false humility.
So it would give appearance of humility..
But of course, we know that the end result of pride
is destruction (not a fall).

Another thought is that if we are filled with, and led by
the Spirit of God, we can't help but have genuine
forgiveness .. and humility, towards all.
AS we're led by...
Obviously if were caught up in the flesh, all manner
of ugly comes out.
Didn't mean to offend!
Have a blessed day! :)

Hopefully soon!
Meanwhile, please forgive me if i've offended you somehow!

Oh no, you didn't offend me at all. There really are some good "depths" there in all of the discussion. I'd be glad to hear your thoughts if you reread it if you get a chance. :)

True we are supposed to pray for our enemies but, we don't have to like them.
I am glad Jesus didn't think that way.
We were His enemies, He demonstrated His love for us, and now He calls us friends.

I think that He knew the predestined ones in the womb and said that he loved them.

Jacob I loved Esau I hated.

Apparently that was said while they were in the womb?

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Colossians 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
