Sex - might seem like a no-brainer, but it really is a great bonus to marriage!

Companionship - someone to spend my days with, to help and to be helped, to journey together in knowing God, etc.

Children - a beautiful inheritance of the Lord that brings much joy!

Well just as the title says really..

I have my thoughts but wanted to hear some first before I chime in with mine.

so what in your opinion is the good thing about being married?

*I have a spouse who is my help-mate/help-meet.

Our marriage is symbolic of the relationship between Christ and
the church.

I have a prayer partner who's also my closest friend.

I'm blessed to have a husband who is teachable and he strives to
do his best even though he has a few "handicaps".

Definitely sex. I know a lot of people don't really grasp this, but sex is the only thing that separates dating from marriage.

I could have loved my husband without marrying him. We could have just dated the rest of our lives and been in love, been best friends, been companions...sex is what sets it apart.

That being said, there's a lot more to marriage than just sex.

Created----"Definitely sex."

I KNEW she was going to say that; she's such a fiend.
Me too.

But I also like the identity of a new "family", a place of belonging, a place of God's footprint in the world of community (like Trinity) that is a blessing to the world.

Having someone to vent to;
Sharing troubles (halving them);
Knowing that someone in this big wide world really gets you, and that you know that person better than anyone else (other than God);
Knowing that if you are sad, they will comfort you, and that you can comfort them;
Sharing absolute trust, secrets that you have never told anyone else;
Those moments of total recognition when you both get the same thought, so it's kind of a God moment;
Knowing that in all the trials and tribulations, you are both still seeking for God, and recognizing it in each other and celebrating each other, even through the toughest times.

Being almost 50 years old, married for 22 and having total confidence that I am with someone who loves me and will until death. (The thought of dating at 50 is not a confidence inspiring idea!)

Raising kids and seeing them grow, develop and enjoy childhood.

The security of knowing someone will always care if you are sick, have a bad day or crisis.

The joy of knowing someone wil always cheer your dreams and your successes.

And what C2W said!!! LOL! Probably not much of that for 50 year old single people. Much more for the 50 year old married ones.

I wrote mine without reading responses beyond the first couple. Wish I'd read yours first, Jane, so I could just have copied it. This really covers it so well and is such a wise post. And these are things people may not appreciate or think of when they are young. Wonderful!

It depends: if you are comparing staying in a marriage to being divorced, then there are a whole lot of advantages to staying married--mostly financial.

If you are comparing staying single to becoming married, then the answer is sex. That's the only thing. Any of that other stuff you could do with your sister. Yeah, I know, you have a friend and someone to vent to and someone to help raise the kids and blah blah blah....but the thing that makes that special within marriage is that it's a person you also have sex with, which adds an extra dimension to all those other relationships.
