  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I've been procrastinating getting my car washed and waxed for the last couple months and really thought I was going to these last 2 days. Especially today, but I really feel like I need to prioritize sleep before my health goes down. Sometimes you just have to know when to say when, and today is one of those days that I just need another night of earlier rest. Once I get some rest, hopefully it will go well for my run tomorrow morning.
Way to focus on you! :)

The car will get washed and waxed another day!

I must say for this week, even though I've been dog tired probably because of the reunion and getting to bed at 1:00 in the morning... And continuing training through the week.

It's been a highlight to see @shineyourlight back posting. I think others would agree.

As for myself it's been nice during the week connecting with others. A friend called me from college, we've been long time friends but almost lost that friendship last fall because of politics. Not my own doing, but her own frustrations. A near scare of cancer put things in perspective for her. And she reached out for prayer. Yesterday she ended our conversation with saying that she's so glad that we are still friends and can't believe that she was ready to end it over politics. It gives hope for the other friendship that seems to be on hold because of differences on the vacinne. She's a sister in Christ while the other is not. I pray the Lord will speak to her heart and mend our differences or speak to mine if there needs to be another word spoken. I've had more than one person reach out to me this week, so it's been kind of special. And even some of the blessings that has come with my return to the workplace.. and surprisingly recognition from our department head during a meeting for some work that I've done.

Although I keep desperately trying to find that quiet place and carve out that quiet time, the Lord is still speaking to me during these busy days... But I also need to use wisdom and prioritizing getting the rest of my body needs.

@SarahsKnight I hope you are finding some rest in this time before you return to work on Saturday also :)

Nothing wrong with prayers :) No one's giving you sympathy just because someone offers to pray for you. In Ephesians, it talks about lifting each other up. Even if something isn't wrong, receiving prayers is a good thing!

I'm glad things are going good for you! I'm gonna keep praying for you because that's what we are called to do and I hope you do the same for me <3
You got it. ^-^

Oh, gosh. You're just the sweetest <3

I am so glad you and your friend were still able to be friends still over politics!

So, out with it. Just how many guys did you charm while you were there, Sampa? ^-^

@SarahsKnight I hope you are finding some rest in this time before you return to work on Saturday also :)

Oh, I am. :) Three nights (which I think are generally better than day shifts anyway because supervision/management aren't around on nights) ahead of me will feel like nothing compared to the last two weeks because of all that overtime.

I am hoping also, since I will be doing a similar schedule again next month due to covering the same person's vacation (she's got, like, six weeks' worth in all per year since she's been there so long), that the guy in my area on B crew will be willing to trade some days with me during that particular week so as to keep me on a straight night schedule for longer than usual and keep me from having to do a 24-hr. turnaround at one point in that week. Also, best yet, if he's willing to make the trade, I can hang with my crush for a day or two by being on his crew. ^-^

This schedule's all messed up. Basically this is how it's going to go next month thanks to my having to cover the A crew person's days off:

Normally I would be working just Thursday and Friday night, then have 72 hours off, then work the following Tuesday Wednesday day shift. But with having to cover the A crew gal's days off, I will have to instead do Thursday through SUNDAY night - four nights - have only 24 hours off, and then immediately turn around to do Tuesday and Wednesday day. So that makes for virtually six days - and remember these are twelve-hour shifts - in a row. If the B crew guy is willing to make a trade, I will instead work the next Thursday and Friday night and he take the Tuesday and Wednesday day. It would ultimately make for five days of work in a row for each of us, but it would eliminate that nasty
24-hour turnaround for me and give him more normal time off after his particular string of five days in a row, so he might possibly find it worth it. One can only hope.
After all, wouldn't it be rather heartless if he were to willingly stand in the way and keep me from the presence of the lady I adore most right now (because she's on his crew)? ^_^:p
Oh, by the way, @shineyourlight , it is in fact the same girl you were so graciously among those cheering me on after I said on here one time last year that I was about to try to ask out. ^-^

... I know, I know. Such fascinating conversation I am bringing up here describing my stupid work schedule. ^_^ (But hey, at least I'm no longer working at Dr. Pepper, which some here such Multifavs and Rigatoni might remember enough to be able to tell you newer folks like Sampa and Bella that I was not at all happy with. I had a few good moments in that place, but day by day, combined with the fact that I was living in Houston - which I scarcely miss at all - at the time, it was a nightmare overall. I've never been in such an inherently negative and stressful environment, and it was clearly affecting me as well.)

In short: Dr. Pepper the product, good.
Dr. Pepper the work environment, BAD.

Ah, Napoleon Dynamite gifs. Always an appropriate time to bring them up. ^_^

WOMM: Feels good standing up for what you believe in. Never compromise on your morals or your values. Always stand up for what's right - not what you think is right, but what is right. And be prepared for the fallout.

People may hate you, but they will remember.

Yes, I did. You actually posted very shortly after the fact saying you were proud of me for taking that step, if I recall, even though she did say no (she said that, as most people would understandably feel, it just doesn't seem like a good idea in the end to try dating someone you work with). Which I thank you for, by the way. :)

Perhaps that's why you're able to bear your situation. Toxicity takes a toll. Maybe you should put out feelers and see who bites. It couldn't hurt. :)

Ahh, haha. If you're referring to the reunion, the majority were married. But I did have an encounter from my past with someone that I had to tread carefully. He chose to speak with me outside the tent while his wife was not there, the conversation was cordial and talking about his life with his second wife and children but we did reminisce about our days when I hung with him and these other guys as one of the boys. As much as I would have liked to have continued conversation, I'm glad that we were all called in for the group photo. I partially would have rather his wife been there, but I don't think she would have liked that we had such a close connection in the past.
The guy that I think is no longer married and asked me out in some sort of fashion, did message me but I played it cool. I don't know enough about him except that he's a Christian and he's connected to a mutual friend. I don't know how long he has been divorced, I'm thinking within the last 2 years since I saw that his wife married within the last year.
My biggest part of fatigue is probably with too much coffee. I need to taper back. I slept for 12 hours. I couldn't stay awake beyond 6:00 p.m. last night. But it wasn't a restful sleep as I have issues with my heating unit thermostat. For some reason part of it was running while the air conditioning was continuously running in my bedroom. Which messes with my sinuses a little bit. I got up early so that I can have a good long run this morning. I'm hoping around 9 and a half to 10 miles.... Sorry for being so long-winded.

Three nights (which I think are generally better than day shifts anyway because supervision/management aren't around on nights) ahead of me will feel like nothing compared
I get the night shift versus day shift. When I have to plow snow, that's what a lot of people prefer is because they don't have micromanagement. On day shift not only do you have to deal with the stress of the volume of traffic, but the radio has constant chatter of all the different routes, and on top of that every once in awhile a supervisor might come over the radio and tell you what a crappy job you're doing. By picking out different things that need to be done. I prefer day shift only because of having the regular sleep pattern. My health and immune system does not go well with inconsistent sleep schedule.
For us we have our regular jobs that are during the day, and if I was to preference night shift, I could be working my regular job and then have to go in 11:00 at night. Whereas with day shift it turns into a 16-hour day, and if I have to go in for snow plowing the next day it will be at 11:00 a.m.

that the guy in my area on B crew will be willing to trade some days with me during that particular week so as to keep
I hope you can get the trade, that would be nice.

if he's willing to make the trade, I can hang with my crush for a day or two by being on his crew.
I'm sure hanging around the crush makes the day more enjoyable. I get that.

makes for virtually six days - and remember these are twelve-hour shifts - in a row. If the B
12-hour shifts, no thank you. With my work agency we have quite a few that are working 4-day weeks. I do not preference this. But extra day that I get for the weekend I end up having to sleep and play catch up. And hopefully my department will never do that. So I sympathize for you. I hope there is some good money that helps for your future though.

Dr. Pepper, which some here such Multifavs and Rigatoni might remember enough to be able to tell you newer folks like Sampa and Bella
Thanks for the background. I've only worked into factories as a summer job while I was in college. One of them was a book distribution center and the other made some kind of rubber parts for vehicles I think. The first one I was fortunate and I got four different positions -book filler, shipping Department on a writer and a picker, and then in an air conditioned office doing some kind of filing. I also went off to the National guard for 2 weeks, and had some issues with them that I had to file with the VA in the unemployment office. The last one as a clicker I was standing in a hot and dirty environment for 12 hours a day. I also was lifting weights in the morning before I went into my shift. I don't know how I did it. It was intense. But both of those situations I made some friendships and was able to also be a Christian witness. Hang in there my friend. You never know what opportunities lie ahead in those long hard days. I have found that with snow plowing also that there are opportunities that opened up in those long days and hard hours. There's sometimes a bond that is developed when you go through arduous and difficult situations together.
