Singles seems to be in a bit of a hollow nowadays. I don't think people notice this subforum anymore. It was the CF lynch pin for years. People used to lie about their marital status just so that they could post here. The threads were legendary at a certain point.

Dang. Too bad I wasn't around during its heyday. Would have been fun to see. I miss the old days of internet forums. People gravitate to Twitter now. Yuck.

I can't honestly remember.. that person went by a number of usernames.

And people still didn't learn their lessons. Many more would fall in love with a faceless forum user for many years to come.

Hard to describe.. just you know.. there is a trope in movies of women falling in love with men only later to discover these men are not into women. They like them for their "feminine" side.. the same can be true for women who act like men.

Hehe. Thanks, Knight. I think I'll be alright, though. There's no harassment going on at all. I'd be kind of shocked if there were, actually. Though the pinned post did give me pause when I first started posting here.

I wasn't taking it too seriously, mind you. And heaven forbid that it ever does actually happen to you, or Bella, or any other lady here (and vice versa on the gender positions, of course). But I was more just poking fun at myself in saying that, since a fellow such as myself cannot help but naturally carry a stigma of the phony white knight stereotype on the Internet with him, since, you know, I am a guy who loves the ladies and simply believes strongly in the classic grade-school teaching of "being nice to girls".

Yeah.. the threads used to go at a lightening pace. You could see a thread on the second page that was only a few hours old at times.

Yeah.. the threads used to go at a lightening pace. You could see a thread on the second page that was only a few hours old at times.

It seems to me like forums/message boards sort of replaced the chat rooms of the 90s and early 2000s in popularity. And now of course the forums are being superseded by social media platforms. Modern social media is so impersonal, though. It's much nicer getting to know people on a forum than reading dozens of inane jokes and stupid takes on a place like Reddit.

Interesting. I think I get you. Though I could never imagine myself falling in love with a gay guy, especially if I knew he was gay. I have a superb gaydar, and the instant it goes off I lose all interest. lol

I wonder if her gaydar sent off any kind of false alarm when she first met me due to my seeming a bit "elegant" in my speech and mannerisms, sometimes.

I’ve encountered gender benders in the past. That’s why I insist on talking on the phone or Skype. I knew people who spent months exchanging messages online only to discover the person was the same sex. In most instances someone knows the truth and keeps their secret. The fallout is always bad.

The worse thing I ever witnessed was a fake relationship. They kept it going for a year and pretended to meet. They talked about their time together to others. But it was all a lie. He confessed and a tidal wave followed.

You need a gaydar and fakedar for the Internet.

Mine? It doesn't work through the internet, sadly. But I can usually differentiate between a less "typical" man and a gay man. But I wish more men would get in touch with their gentlemanly/feminine side.

They met in a chat room and only communicated online. She goes to visit him and flies to Australia. And gets stood up at the airport. Now she’s stranded in another country with no accommodations and little money.

A member in the room takes pity and picks her up and she stays at her house. The person that stood her up was really a girl. She was lying the whole time.

Ah, the good ol days. Was reminiscing a couple days ago - a lot of smiles and a whole lot of shudders.

You would have enjoyed the good times, they were pretty darn great. But the bad days, which could span for weeks at a time, were just miserable. Ugly on so many levels.

There was a time, and it didn't just happen, it had been coming for quite a while, where Singles nothing less than the Wild West of the internet. The Mods, for whatever reason, rarely patrolled Singles to keep issues at bay and members in line, so there was drama running amuck 24/7. Dark days in Singles. But tbh, at the same time, those days consisted of some of the best days as well. This place was so toxic, but it was almost like a drug as well, you couldn't put it down...you couldn't stay away.

No, the subforums weren't bad. Kind of weird, but not as bad as Singles. A huge factor in that was traffic. The subforums were never nearly as active as Singles. There was an incredible amount of active members in Singles back then. Every day just about there was some sweet, new innocent saying hello, unbeknownst to them they had walked into the den of lions. Lol
