I didn't realize what a blessing it is to be content in singleness till I started posting here. It does get lonely being endlessly single, but I don't ache for a significant other. I'm happy by myself as well.

It took me most of my life and some broken relationships to find contentment in solitude. It was there all the time, but I couldn't have done it then.

Now that I'm 48, I'm very hesitant to give it up. I try not to say what I won't do, lest I make myself a liar, but I'm in no rush to put in with someone else. I do enjoy the company of a woman, even as friends. The dynamic is different than with male friends.

Sorry, I shouldn't joke like this because you are obviously in great emotional pain, but I'm not sure what to say. Have you lost all hope entirely? What makes today different from just a few days ago when you posted more optimistically in your thread?

There must be different ways that contentment comes as a blessing. If that makes sense. I am content to be single (for the most part) and have never been in a relationship of any duration. I wonder if it's just a learning process? Because I definitely don't have Paul's gift of singleness. That would probably come with contentment built in.
