Well I did at least try to sound timid and innocent when i asked, "would it make you feel better if I said that I am happy you're here today, at least?" ^-^

She softly replied, not really, but laughed and smiled a little right after that, and we talked for a few minutes from there. So hopefully it did cheer her up, even if just for the moment.

Now I fear being tempted to fall away into daydreaming in the middle of a somewhat dangerous job as working in a lab on the days when she's just next door. There is a spot I spend a lot of time throughout the day at where I can easily see that cute little brunette-headed lass doing her own thing in her sector through an open doorway. Upon seeing your post about "you're Erin's guy!", during those times we can see each other I fear starting to mind-wander into a fantasy where she walks confidently up to me, cutely pokes me on the nose, and says, "you, Will, are now my guy!" To which of course I would be an absolute fool to protest.

So, yeah, kinda like that famous Phoebe Cates fantasy scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont High - only, you know, a lot more innocent.

(Um, seriously, no one try to look that scene up that I speak of, if you don't already know the reference I am making.)

I was thinking, earlier that rather old-school song "Just the Girl I'm Looking For" by The Click Five was playing on my phone, so it's a shame Erin did not need to happen through my lab for any reason during that time, so I lost an opportunity to playfully serenade her with the lyrics " 'cause she's bittersweet. Do you wanna know why? Several years ago a close friend told me something I clung to. "You're not done" she said. All my friends believed otherwise. Guess what? She was right.

I learned an important lesson though that experience. I don't know what's in the other person's heart. Assumptions are easy but we can be wrong. Did I realize he'd pursue me for years? More fervently than any believer I've encountered? Of course not.

Actions speak louder than words. You care about her. I respect that more than you realize. Some people are looking to fill a void. But you want her. That's beautiful.

I can't tease you because I've lived it. That's precious.

I am thinking, though, that as certainly smitten as I appear to be with Erin, perhaps I should ask her out again but this time on a purely friendly/casual basis to get to know more about her, in a relaxed atmosphere with no romantic intentions. No attempts to win her over, no hidden agenda, just a chance to chat and know more about her as a person over a shared meal. Perhaps in matters of personal faith, as well. I like to think I can control my desire to heap praise upon her and keep the heart's butterflies to a minimum for a mere two hours in a fine dining establishment, long enough to socialize as perfectly normal friends. ^-^
